@Yammie Noob Finally!!!!! That being said I have a 14 cbr650f. So before they changed the name to the 650r and redid the front half of the bike and added the Showa big piston front forks. 14-18 had Showa bending fork or whatever they called them. Once i get comfortable I will get a video of her up in the mountains or at the track.

I have owned quite a few middleweight bikes such as the Ninja 650, MT-07 and the CBR650R and I must say, the CBR650R is in a class of its own. The high revving smooth engine feels a lot more premium and is significantly more powerful than the usual twins in this class. The dofference is night and day. However, the thing I really emjoyed about the Honda was this premium, upmarlet feeling it gives you. It just feels so well built. The seat is of a high quality material with nice red stitching, paint is all high quality etc. The other middles feel like a toy in comparsion, it's a bit like going from a Mustang to a Mercedes. Although the CBR is quite comfy oriented (more similar to the ninja 650), you can still tuck in and knee drag it if you want, as that extra weight does offer a huge amount of stability and precise handling. I never rode an RS660 though, so I can't comment on that, but I would still take the CBR over all the other middles just for the performance and upmarket build quality alone.

Cannot beat a Honda I4.....change the sprockets -1 tooth up front, +3. 4T...you like to go at least +6, +7 overall. Going -1 down up front on the countershaft sprocket equals going about + 3 Teeth at the rear. Probably could do it w/o even buying a new chain. Once you change sprockets, you'll be a giddy little happy shit every time you go WOT !!!

IMO, biggest issue is pricing. You can get a gsxs750, mt09 or z900 for the price of a cbr650r. Each of these bike is a different flavor of better. If you compare to the faired 650 only and ignore pricing the cbr is a lot nicer than the ninja, but the r7 seems like it would be more fun to commute on.

The CBR650R is underrated for 650 class. It's a perfect commute bike on HW or city, it's also a great machine you can take to chase the canyon! I learned SO MUCH on it as my 1st beginner bike! Late down the road I moded my bike pushing 90hp at wheel, then took it to the track and sure it did not disappoint me at all. The only downside of this bike is that it came out right before COVID hit, so most accessories factory were shut down due to the lockdown. There aren't a lot of after market parts for this specific bike yet...

If you wanna ride a CBR650R like a hooligan, you can; all you need to do is scream it out to the red line in every gear and don't let it drop below 6000-7000 revs. Its that easy and a lot of fun (which is not what happens in most of your videos) with the added bonus of that screaming inline 4 cylinder engine noise. I've ridden the RS660 and I learnt to ride on an MT07 and they are great bikes that just make there power in a different way and require a different (some might say lazy 🤔) riding style.

One of the newer bikes that honda got right was the cbr650f back when it debuted, but it wasnt sporty enough for many so when honda replaced the 650f with the 650r they hit a bullseye all around by keeping the inline4, slightly dropping the grip height, and giving it that aggressive "CBR" look and feel. It does weigh quite a bit but when your on the highway or fighting wind, it actually helps. VFRs are too heavy for the amount of ponies they have (i dont count that 1200) but the cbr650r was spot on for a wide range of riders.. that r7 is like the bike you get when you want to begin riding at a track but dont want to ride a 300, its not really a "do-it-all" bike

For anyone who still doesn't understand you don't feel torque or horsepower. You feel thrust at the wheel vs weight. That thrust is going to depend on how much hp its making vs gearing. Yes where it makes that thrust is dependant on the torque curve but if its geared to suit thats not a factor. Example you have two bikes of the same weight with a similar torque curve. One revs to 5000rpm and makes 100lb of torque, 50hp with gearing to hit the redline at 50mph. The other revs to 10,000rpm, makes 50lb and 50hp but is still geared for 50mph at redline. The second bike will be at twice the rpm but will have exactly the same feel to the rider. When they say they are missing or feeling the torque what they really mean is where that torque is. This is also why doing top gear roll ons doesn't mean anything. If one bike is only geared for 120mph and the other for 150mph the slower bike will look better than it really is simply because of the gearing difference.

The Honda does what they like to do,which is make their machine more friendly to more people,more dual purpose,this thing seems to me like a great upright naked bike with a fairing,and the ability to get with the program when you are so inclined,I would agree that it needs some lower gears and that would be a whole new animal.
@Remymoto
@Remymoto 2 жыл бұрын
I was about to make the same comment Spite did about the gearing. Take advantage of the higher RPM situation to get more practical torque. Sure, you'll have a screaming engine, but plenty of folks like that and won't see it as a negative. It's not like people who ride these really need the potential top speed that would be traded away. If you plan to be going that fast you'd probably buy something else anyway.

Despite all the critics, the Yamaha R7 would be a better inexpensive purchase, but since it’s so underpowered Honda is the smart choice for specific type of riders. A twin should never be on top of a four cylinder in terms of power,sounds and performance,unless your name is KTM or Ducati. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the R7 would be the crowd’s favorite over the heavy and costly Honda lol 😆

I agree with lot of stuff Yammie and Spite were saying about CBR as a CBR owner. However, that does not mean that you will be the slowest guy on the canyon road though. It is a heavy bike for its class but once you get up to speed, it leans pretty well and corners wonderfully. I've ridden RS660 so I agree that it does a lot of stuff better but at the same time I'm pretty confident that I can keep up with either R7 or RS660 on the canyon road with no issue. Just keep your RPM above 7k, look ahead, try not to focus on the rider in front of you too much and follow your line. Oh and understand the fact that it is not a super sport. I usually turn TC off when I ride on twisty road because it is a bit intrusive than I like but it comes back online if the bike detects a lot of slip at the rear wheel. I found out about that on my last ride lol. It is a pretty sweet bike for the street and also capable of chasing a lot of faster bike if you are skilled enough. I'm thinking about taking my CBR to the track soon, just to see how it does against better bikes.

I would do another video with the CBR650R on the track against an R7 comparison. I bet you, with the torque band on the CBR, the CBR would edge out the compition. Ofc, using racing tires, not the stock ones. The CBR seems to have a low barrier to entry but high skill ceiling. The R7 seems to have a high barrier of entry but a lower ceiling of mastery.

In terms of value for money, the kawasaki blows all these bikes out of the water (including the rs660) For barely 1k more than the R7 you get an aluminium frame, premium brakes, premium suspension, and TWICE the power. Seriously, a 636 makes any of these bikes feel like a 300.

I just came home from a 800km touring ride on the 650R with SW-motech full set of luggage. As long as you got an exhaust on it (mine has Akrapovic S-H6R14-HEGEHT) you get that deep inline-four burble and grown. It is an amazing versitaile bike. Got the looks of a "mini fireblade", has all the power for public road. Can carry a passanger and is such a nimble bike for solo riding and still capable of doing pretty hard touring while being enjoyable enough to pick for a short cafe ride. Not many bikes can do all that and also provide mad reputation of reliability in the same package. Such a great bike and looks menacing in matte black with silver accents.

The best motorcycles are 300-400hp/ton (combined rider and bike wet weight) with 3 or fewer cylinders. To translate that to bike examples, an RS660, Street Triple, MT09, KTM 690-890, etc. CBR650R counts, too, with a light enough rider. I think you guys should try a 49, 51, or even a 53-tooth sprocket on the back of the 650R, but also pick up a 17-tooth front so you can switch it back to something close to stock gearing with just 1 change and a chain length adjustment. A 17/47 will be the closest to stock, but as you said, even stock isn't perky enough, so yeah. But having a "slightly improved stock equivalent" with a 17 front will mean a REALLY punchy setup with the 15-tooth front. This is how I have my Vstrom 650 set up. 51-tooth rear, stock 15-tooth front, and I can get it back to exactly stock by simply changing the front to 17-tooth. Funny enough, the 51-tooth rear even clears the stock chain guard!

I had the R6 and CBR600RR from 2008 and the R6 is much better and faster, the only thing the CBR had better was the factory steering damper that saved my ass a couple times, still was a great bike, loved it and undertail exhaust for me was also a bonus. The 2019 R6 is also better than the new CBR600RR, its just built better for "spicy" riding and obviously, much less road friendly, because the body position on the R6 is more agressive. There is also no comparison with the R3 vs CBR300R, the R3 is on another level... By that, what I mean is that you can't say Honda is the king of 300-600cc class just because your CBR is clearly much faster than a R7, it has 35hp more, the R7 was not built to battle with other 4cyl bikes, but the Ninja 650, thats also a twin cyl on the 650cc field, and if you compare those 2, the Yamaha is miles better... the only brand I hoped they would bring something new to kill the R7 and Ninja was KTM, with some sort of R version of the Duke 790, but I dont think they are interested in building R bikes anymore... Your CBR was built to go head to head with the first gen R6 (that was very very fast but not as reliable as the honda), and in that case, the CBR was actually a better and more solid bike! Yamaha and Honda have been on top of the game for the most part, and honestly I can't say that one of them is the "king" because things change too much over the time.

I've found myself lately only using 80% of what the bike is capable of maybe a few times a month (no tracks nearby - and I'm not as gung ho on the street as when I was a younger lad). It's getting less and less comfortable every year ( and I'm getting older and older lol, in my 30s now). Curious how your experience has been with the cb650r as far as power and ergonomics go? The abs on my cbr650r as my first bike has definitely saved my life at one stage when I used abs to it's full potential I do believe without it I would have locked up and lost the front end

For INDIAN roads, Cbr650r is truly an all-round motorcycle. I have done 700km(around 435 miles) roadtrip on this bike. Not one time did I feel distress because of the ergonomics. More than enough power nd torque for Indian Roads/Highways. My top speed on a freeway was 245kmph(153mph). 🔥 Average fuel economy was around 20-24kmpl. ✅ The inline 4 is a gem on this bike ❤ I also do my office commute on this bike everyday. The heat management in bumper to bumper traffic is also manageable. Doesn't heat up that much. Overall, it's the best bike that u can use in multiple situations. Can't say the same for yamaha R7. Yeah, if u want to take it to the race track mostly (which only 0.02% people do) u can go for the R7. Here in India, people purchase 200+ bhp bikes just to flex on the streets nd later sell it to get another more powerful bike nd repeat the same cycle. 🤣

Hey bud! I have a question. I plan to purchase a superbike under Rs 12 Lakh and I am confused between Z900 and CBR650R (2024 model to be launched in India soon). I can't decide which one to buy. My primary requirement is brutal power delivery which tilts me towards Z900 but then I prefer faired bikes over naked which tilts me towards CBR650R. Considering both the bikes are similarly priced, what would your choice be taking power, looks and maintenance cost into consideration? Can you suggest?
