The ZX6R is like the Glock 19 of track bikes. It's just that reliable platform you can't go wrong with that has a massive aftermarket for upgrades and replacement parts and is affordable to own and get work done on and people know so much about them so anything that ever comes up can be fixed relatively quickly and not cost alot compared to work on a Ducati or Triumph or KTM

@@Fin.mint. that's my Dream bike at the moment. Aprilia RSV4 is what my dreams are made of. A guy in my neighborhood has one and every time he rides by it is the most amazing engine sound of any bike I've ever heard. Depending on how 2022 turns out I may possibly be trading in my MT10 for a slightly used 2021 RSV4....but that will only be so if all my lucky stars align so I'm not counting on it lol.

I was looking over free craigslist in OC CA about a year ago and I saw a listing for a clearly fake free 2006 zx6rr (the 599cc “race only” version). I reached out through the email and left my number. I got a call a few minutes later and it was a full setup with extra wheels, bodywork, trackstands but not in running condition. A wife was forcing the release of a husbands (winning? idk, but it was properly setup on ohlins, galfer lines, full ti-akro, race bodywork). I got it home with a quick tow. It was a dream and I couldn’t believe it. I flushed and soaked rust dissolver in the tank. I flushed the fuel system and replaced the in tank pump. New battery and air filter, oil/filter all in with the tow under $300 bucks and the bike fire fired right up. I flushed the cooling system and let it warm up. This is one of the best sounding bikes I’ve ever heard. With a power commander on race gas /akro tune I was told it made 125 wheel at something like 13k rpm. I never got the chance to ride the bike. All of this happened a year into covid and I was forced to quickly sell it due to being a few months behind on rent. This bike saved me from an eviction and I barely survived. I still think about what that bike would be like to ride, it was setup pretty much perfect…125ish whp 350 lbs race weight on ohlins / slicks up to 16k rpm…crazy bike. I’ll get another one someday and I’ll learn to rip on track. Love all of you guys, thanks for reading.

I'm so jealous, you guys have tracks like this in USA. Wide open, not crowded, available. One can really pracise the technique safely. We don't have that luxury in EU and definitely not in PL. We go and practise in the street with various results... Tracks are rare, really busy, plenty of restrictions and also expensive. Even on a track, there is not many open corners allowing you to make a mistake.

Story time. I come from riding a 125 on the street (I’d say I was seriously fast in the mountains. I know, I know, blah blah… it was literally the only thing that was available to me) but I’ve done motocross a few years ago, most powerful bike I’ve ridden before having 26hp 😬🤷♂️. I learned technique from Simon Crafar’s videos, Sylvain Guintoli’s videos, Alberto Naska’s videos, and obviously watching MotoGP and practicing all of them on the mountain passes. Picked up a 2015 R6 on Thursday, only thing I did on it was literally just start it on Friday. Today was my first *EVER* track day (after not riding my 125 for over a year because I didn’t enjoy riding on the streets because of officers and fines, and potentially being detained or whatever) and FIRST *EVER* time riding anything that powerful. Very overwhelmed at first, but everything went away once I actually got out of pit lane and instructor said I could follow him. Let me tell y’all this. I was expecting a lot more power tbh 🤣 after a few corners (could count them on 1 hand), still my first session, I just decided to say fuck it, “full yeet energy” (still braking very early), “full power, 100%, baby” all the way to red line 😂😂. It pulled, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle. Like 2 or so laps later, coming out of the last corner onto the straight, 2nd gear.. I just schwacked it.. clicked 3rd, 4th, limit of 4th and then hit the brakes. It picked up speed very well, but then again, I think I could handle a bit more 😂 no arm pump, no sore hands, nothing. The hardest part of it all was braking. The weight transfer onto my arms (specifically feeling it on my triceps), because the bike has no tank grips and is on a slippery OEM seat… it was A LOT. A confidence destroyer. Didn’t have to be braking that hard even. I was forced to do my braking with both knees on the tank or else suffer, but it got a hell of a lot better (still sliding off though, but at least there’s less weight on my arms 😭) and I felt more confident. Almost dragged my elbows too 😂, but I didn’t want to risk pushing that liiitttlle bit more because it was still my first track day and I wasn’t on “elbow dragging tyres” But on the bright side, I wasn’t the slowest rider on track during the very first session, despite being the only complete noob. Improved by 10sec on my second lap of the 2nd session ✊✊ last lap of the last session, idk how, but I accidentally stepped the rear out under braking, not a feeling I enjoyed tbh 😂 I just want to tell others that 600 power really isn’t unmanageable. I’d still recommend a 400 for those new to track days/racing.. I low key wished I could’ve gotten a 400 instead too, but it is what it is. Had a moment coming out of a 2nd gear corner, where I think I got on the power too hard, and had a big wobble for a bit, but nothing too scary, just stood up a little kept it pinned 😂 can’t wait to try the bike out with lighter race fairings, tank grips and better tyres 😭😭 Just thought I should let you know Yammie, now be proud of me 😠 I’m officially a track-only rider now.
@King-kl6ej2 жыл бұрын
Lemme also add, holy shit the R6 is completely dead at low RPMs 🤣🤣🤣 I thought I was in 2nd coming into this corner, but I was in 3rd, tried to get on power and nothing. And jeez did it take forever to get on the pipe. I got to the end of the short straight before I got into the meat 😂
@King-kl6ej2 жыл бұрын
R7. Forgot it existed. Haven’t ridden one, but it’s in between a 400 and a 600. I think that would be a perfect starting track bike.. but idk if we have them yet here, but it would’ve been way more expensive than my 600 anyway
@BonjobyBasketball2 жыл бұрын
Hey Yam, have you considered potentially starting a "Track bike givaway" subcategory as part of your giveaway series? I think it would potentially be pupular and it would let you start doing more "build" style videos, say you could buy a used secondhand streetbike (anything from 300 to a 1000), and do it up as a full trackday/racing build. It would allow you to experience and make content on a wide range of sports bikes in their natural habitats, operating at their peak performance and it could be lucritive for your business. You could also of course include all the street gear with the bike so as to not cut out your audience who don't ride track.

Just getting back into bikes after a 18 year hiatus, my last bike was a ‘94 FZR1000, my current bike I got for a steal of a price from my mechanic & good friend is a ‘15 R3, my goal/dream garage is to add a DR 650(had one in ‘96), and also a ZX6R, along with some dirt toys, I felt super comfortable on the FZR, very stable at 120+, but didn’t feel so great in traffic, as it wasn’t very nimble at just over 500 pounds. After seeing comparisons with liter bikes and 600’s, 6’s definitely seem to be a better choice for “daily-ish” riding.

Rode the ZX6R a couple of weeks back to compare and it’s such a capable and amazing sportbike. Part of me is very sad that the 600CC supersport class is dying. Kawasaki seems to be holding out and Honda is almost done. I went with a 2021 CBR600RR over the Kawi because it’s the better “street” bike and every bit as capable on track, especially since it has zero rider aids (no ABS, TC, Electronic throttle etc). The Honda has exactly what I need, which is an amazing electronic steering damper system and proper fuel gauge. Nonetheless, I bought the CBR600RR because it may be the last US model and these 600CC bikes will continue to die out like manual transmission sportscars. Awesome video Yam, can’t wait to see you wring the Thruxton RS on track 😉

What makes the cbr better for the street?
@dacarguru79832 жыл бұрын
Overall ergonomics (slightly higher handlebar height), suspension setup, seat cushioning, fuel gauge and HESD (Honda electronic steering damper) are the main reasons why it’s the better street bike. Also, it’s a Honda, so reliability will be unmatched from a daily use perspective
@JRico8312 жыл бұрын
@@chillpengeru it’s not a better street bike than the 636 lol some people just can’t handle a proper sport bike so they find a bike that’s close and then through purely subjective reasoning claim it’s better. @@JRico831 spot on for the most part. I have both 600rr and Zx6r. Cbr is slower, feels heavier, and all around just not as fun as the zx6r. Zx6r might be the most well rounded bike for street and track mixed with kawasaki reliability.

Do it, I bet you will love the rain, the heat, traffic and grocery shopping on it
@jakegarrett81092 жыл бұрын
You can, I used to when I was 14 (the only thing I could legally drive). Ice is only fun in parking lots, but not that big of a deal, you just slow around corners with your feet out like skis. Snow is pretty fun to play in, but you don't want to be flying 65 mph down gravel roads to fly into an unplowed snow bank so just take it slower. Golfball sized hail on the highway hurts, that's really the only weather condition that sucks. My advice, if its way below freezing temps get heated grips (they are cheap on Amazon), that will keep your gloves from getting frozen to the throttle making you take your hands out of your gloves to hit the front brakes. Also wear layers, 2 layers of coveralls, a thick coat under that, and a hoodie beneath the coat make you pretty comfy, just unzip coveralls as required if you get hot. Ski mask is nice too, and triple layer your socks. You want saddle bags so you don't have to carry everything in backpacks or be bungie chording 50 pound feedsacks like I would do sometimes, but I mean bungie chords are pretty awesome for carrying anything. You'll want larger saddle bags though for groceries if you don't make trips in town very often though.
@jakegarrett81092 жыл бұрын
Oh and if its not snowy, then its not a big deal. Like I'm now in MD so its like 360 days of decent riding weather each year (sure it rains some of those days, but rain isn't going to sucker punch you leaving bruises like golfball hail relentlessly pounding you 70+ mph 10 times a second).

@@jakegarrett8109 luckily I live in South Africa the weather is super nice here the coldest days are 13°C and those are few and far between. Dumb question, but when you take a bike to a track, do you not fill the tank completely? I'm just a bit confused how you'd run out of gas. I wish I could word my question better, but I'm super sleepy right now 😅
@aronph12 жыл бұрын
I've done it. Its easy to overlook with everything going on, and being on the track isn't like being on the street. You cant stare at the dash. How I fix the issue is fill up before first session and after lunch.

my personal experience of owning a 600 as a street bike it's overrated unless you're gonna track it a good amount cause its pretty ass on the street

I daily a 2016 ZX6R & started on a 2006. It’s the perfect daily 600, the mid-range punch makes it usable on the street and you don’t have to rev it out as much as a CBR or R6. However, obviously it does rev out 16k just as well so you can crank it and it’s a different beast above 10k rpms. Stock tune the throttle plates open to 100% at 10k rpms but you can have your ecu flashed to open wide at 4-5k & it literally becomes a monster

This footage is very crisp and in focus not only in the cockpit but hundreds of feet ahead of him. Why is it that nearly all other you tuber's track and moto vlog content so horrible you can't even make out anything on the dash or anything else about what's going on? It's almost as if their filming with the first go pro ever made🤦

It’s a great bike for sure but after 7 years of track riding i prefer a 1000cc bike. It’s fun to ride a 600cc bike on the same tracks, but there is a huge difference between both classes! I love and need the extra amount of power of a 1000cc machine
@skywalker75172 жыл бұрын
At least put some gas in the bike yammie,you are such a good rider on track,and spend some money on parts for the kawi, don't be cheap, remove that ugly tail,put a quickshifter and quick turn throttle for the winner to enjoy it on track

There's a race track just 20 min from where I live. I've been wanting to take my bike out to it for so long. However they have a rule about coolant that has been putting me off from going this whole time. Normal coolant is not allowed. You either gotta use water (ick!!) or use some special race coolant. I don't want to be faffing around with coolant just for the 1-2 race days a year that I would be doing, so have never gone because of it.

have you noticed ZX6s seem to eat gas a little faster than most bikes when you push them?

More rpm = less mpg
@Stratocasterhead512 жыл бұрын
Zx6r gets on average around 18-20km/l. So around 45mpg city / motorway riding. When you push it abit it goes to about 15-16km/l so 30-35mpg. On a big track with lots of full throttle, prepare to refuel every 80-100miles. Considering the performance its actually not that bad.
