It's why it's a good habit to "stick some toe in it" every time you take a curve... just to turn the brake light on for the idiot behind you. You can always add pressure if you're going a little wide and "shore it up" as it were... BUT just kicking the light on helps avoid some morons running right up your ass... usually. ;o)

I used to work at a motorcycle dealership and my favorite memory from it was when I was on door duty (had to keep a tally of customers entering the store and which department it was for so we could remain open. Yay covid). I was working on the door to the apparel and parts department and a guy rolls up on a crotch rocket, nothin but a hoodie, helmet and some athletic sweat shorts, and vans sneakers. I greeted him at the door, and mentioned I assumed he was coming in for apparel. When he asked why I said that, I pointed out that I figured he would rather pay the money for a good pair of riding pants then the time, money and pain of having his legs rebuilt just to find out he'd never ride again. Coincidentally he left with a pair of riding pants 😂

The other reason to move around in the lane is road strategy. Position 1 when approaching intersections so that cars waiting to pull out see more motion than if you were in position 2 or 3. Position 3 when there's a long line of cars coming because then the cars that might be itching to pull out to pass can see you faster, and also you can bail out to the shoulder faster if one of them pulls out anyway. Lots of other position choices come down to safety.

Other bikers filtering through traffic I was stuck in was the main trigger for me upgrading from a car to a bike in the first place. It boggles my mind that filtering is illegal in the USA, with all the traffic jams you people have I'd have thought anything to reduce that would be good. Also, leathers are not just for the track, you can get nasty road rash at relatively low speeds even if you're not racing.

I'm many years away from being a noob, but I always stop with my back brake foot down and the bike in neutral. Decades of riding old Britbikes where the clutch will fry itself within a minute at a stop in gear will do that to you. It's hard enough to find neutral in one these bikes with the clutch in perfect shape. When it's dragging, it's close to impossible. Also having a clutch cable let go when revving your engine in gear at a stop is a recipe for needing new underwear.

Wear white. Going out in black makes zero sense why it because so popular, bikes in black get hotter and this run slower, black gear gets hotter so your reflexes are slower, AND you're less visible.

Filtering is legal in my state 😏 Splitting isn't, and I'm ok with that. Some drivers don't know and ho off or try and block you. Stay safe out there.. PS I don't waddle on my Harley or any other bike in my stable. PPS What's wrong with the R3?? I have one as a track bike 🤠

When I stop at the lights, I put the bike in neutral before I come to a halt and put my left foot on the ground. I think it's unnecessary to pull the clutch and stay in gear. I have my right foot on the brake all the time, so that my brake light is on. Please show pictures of the Super-Naked 😁

I reckon my family is a little pissed that I rev my engine slightly (pumping it to 2.5k rpm and back down to idle) when they are talking to me and I can hardly hear. I only do this because the bike I currently ride is carburetted, and when I have my fuel fully on and I let it idle, it'll flood and stall my engine. If I turn my fuel down a bit, my engine will stall when riding, and I can't be arsed to regulate the carburettor.

You NEED to work on the float in the bowl... It's sticking or you wouldn't flood out and stall. I ride a 95 Savage 650 with a Carb'... AND I've only worked on literal THOUSANDS of carburetted engines from 3 HP Briggsies to 800 HP (stock) V12's... AND once had a look-see at a Merlin (Rolls/Royce V16)... SO I know a thing or two about carb's... Get that float free or fix the needle-valve. You can still rev' it a bit to audibly show disdain, if you like... ...I'm just concerned about the engine. ;o)

I ride a 1988 Katana 1100 with 115,000 km on it and with 4 carbs. I set the idle to 950 - 1000 RPM and it sits and idles fine once it's had a few minutes to warm up. I never have to blip the throttle at lights to keep it running. Nothing wrong with carburetted if they are set up by someone that knows what they're doing. :)

You make assumptions about foot down. When I had a light clutch I always kept my left foot down and held the clutch. Now I've upgraded to an 1854 cc v-twin Roadliner with a very heavy clutch and I have a small upper body. No way am I going to hold my clutch at every light. So I go to neutral at the light, requiring some foot work. No I'm not an expert rider, but I've been doing it safely for decades after taking those all important lessons at the start. Consider the clutch before criticizing.

A point of note here, the space on the road allowed for a bike is THE SAME AS A CAR. The powers that be don't allow us to split the lanes, fine the space that is allowed a motorcycle is the same as a mack truck. That means the full width and length. The law says bikes have no special laws so the space they are allowed on the road is the same as a car. End of story.

Bro I don't agree with the being in neutral to stop light is a beginner thing I still do that and I probably won't ever stop because trust me in Texas we have some long lights I did a burnout at one light by accident because my fingers just couldn't hold the clutch any longer and so when I went to let it out I couldn't let it out slow it just kind of let go that's why I use neutral
@stephenhedge2489

I always put the bike in to Neutral at the lights. This way, I'm not having to hold the clutch in & keep pressure on the hydraulics. But... if I'm on an incline I may have to use the rear brake to hold the bike still. Then I have to swap legs to engage gear to pull away. (Actually, I've now got a Triumph Rocket GT with Hill Hold which is great!) but I still put the bike in Neutral.

Well on 5, it is very well possible to revmatch without having the engine scream. It only takes the littlest of adjustments and it should not change the revs by much. I lived in a small village in Bavaria that had massive traffic going through it and what half those dickheads are doing by screaming their bike through the village, I don't know. I just hope that they have their bike crap out on them on the Autobahn in the middle of a 30 km traffic jam in a thunderstorm miles away from anywhere with sheer cliffs on either side, an attack of explosive diarrhea and no change of clothes. On 6, I do that. If I roll up to a light that I know will be red for a while, I'll pop the bike into neutral. Hence left leg down, realise I got it arseways, right leg down, shift to neutral and wait. Better than holding the clutch for 5 minutes.

A lot of talk about safety gear which I agree with 100%, but the best safety measure a rider can do is to be aware, check your mirrors and always know what is in your general area, with that said Yam and his Bro took the left mirror off the Rebel turned the right one upside down, because it looks cool. Just sayin

@@expatbiker6598 It won't stop a sniper from picking you off either, I think your analogy is missing the point, all we can do is to control what we do, so what are you saying don't bother with your mirrors because someone is going to be texting and rear end you anyway. Not trying to be rude, just saying two mirrors are better than one------Have a good day maybe one day we will pass each other with two fingers down.
