the one thing I I'd like to mention: plz when you're sitting at a stoplight and it changes from red to Green, I don't immediately hit the throttle I take a couple seconds and check both left and right to make sure the people have actually stopped for their red lights. I have seen so many people fly through the intersection not even paying attention it is most dangerous when it changes from green to red and they're in a hurry....

Yeah I second this, from a different perspective. I was someone who flew through an intersection not meaning to. I got hit (as I should have been), and totalled my car. I still get some minor PTSD from it. It was a total accident, I just blanked out and saw the red light but my brain didn't register to stop for some reason. I regret it to this day. Luckily I didn't kill anyone and my life isn't over or whatever. But it can happen to anyone. It's not just a 1 in a million drunk driver doing it. This happens to real people. I'm serious. Even if you're driving a car, it's ALWAYS a good practice to look both ways even if going through a green and in your car. ALWAYS do it!

Not worth it. Heard about a Friday afternoon quick drink after work - time to go home, dude is so wasted he cannot sit on his bike (CBX1000 - the 6 cyl beast) while it's on the main stand, so his "friends" help him by tying him to the bike with belts and ties and get him wobbling on his way. He almost made it home, but there's this notorious off-camber right handed crest - a seriously nasty corner - and he high sided it. They say the bike must have rolled 5 or 6 times, breaking every single bone in his body and turning him into jelly.

All excellent tips. The only thing I would add or modify is number 1. Looking ahead is definitely good in most situations. But if, like me, you live in a population-dense area with dense traffic (I live in Kyoto Japan) , it changes the equation a little. Flowing with the traffic around you can be more of a priority than looking down the road. If you look ahead too much, you might rear-end what's in front of you. In general, looking ahead is wise advice, but pay attention to the specific environment you're in and adapt your approach as necessary. Just keep your head in the game wherever you are.

Facts. Knowledge. Props. I have always heard that motorcycles do not stop as readily as autos, that there is always the danger that the four-wheeler ahead of you will out-brake you if you ride by the four-wheel following distance rules. Keep your chin up .... Important even in a car. You cannot be smooth unless you are looking far ahead. Your planned route on the road should not be the next six feet, turning the bars (or wheel) simply to keep yourself in lane. You should be planning your route to smoothly and naturally flow from your current position, direction and speed, out to the completion of the turn or maneuver and out as far as you can reasonably predict.

Trusting others to obey the rules will get you killed. I don't observe the vehicle entering a roadway, I observe the driver. In the last 15,000 miles I have had four drivers see me, identify me and pull across my path because I either stop or die. It is not something that happened 30 years ago. Accidents were just that, accidents. Today there are drivers that will deliberately put others at risk because they can survive it.

I was thinking about getting a motorcycle, but the more I watch these videos and others on KZbin the more I'm convinced that riding is an insanely complex proposition in which every instant on the road poses a new problem that cannot possibly be solved with anything other than counterintuitive and complex reactions that demand lightning reflexes and years of life-threatening training.
@mangoslice6319
@mangoslice6319 3 жыл бұрын
It’s not that complicated. It’s a matter of practice and being confident with your abilities (which comes with practice) I’ve been riding for a month and a half now. Tons of fun and I use any excuse to go out and ride and practice. If you can maneuver a bike, you can maneuver a motorcycle (just heavier) It still takes practice to be comfortable maneuvering such weight As long as you’re looking well ahead and scanning for dangers, you won’t need quick reflexes since you’re already giving yourself additional time to react by riding passively

Eating food does not speed up the body’s alcohol processing rate! It acts a sponge in your stomach, and prevents irritation of the stomach lining by the alcohol. These factors slow alcohol absorption. Since alcohol metabolism is unchanged, your peak blood alcohol level is lower (you get less drunk), but it will take longer to metabolise everything you drank (you’re impaired for longer!). The average alcohol metabolic rate is one standard drink (1 unit in the UK) per hour, but the standard bottle of crappy larger is usually about 1.5 standard drinks. So if you get peer pressured into having 2 beers instead then you should wait at least a couple of hours (after the last drop of beer) before riding, and eating is going to make it worse…not better! Best advice, drink alcohol free/low alcohol, they’re getting way better than they used to be.

@@ntdscherer because abs activates way way sooner than it needs to. Go ride non abs bikes and see how much more braking control you have. Its a fact. Im not here to argue. And the difference was night and day. U are telling me u go to track days with abs? 😅

Don't draft 18 wheeler's on the highway/freeway at high speed(s) either. (Or any speed) I've had things like mufflers, chunks of rubber tires, and other road debris appear suddenly on me, because i couldn't see the road up ahead. It could end up being your last ride. 🏍 🚑 ☠ ⚰ Passing these big rigs can be deadly too. Don't ride to close to them, and get past them as quickly as possible. It can be turbulent at highway speeds, and a wind gust can make it even worse, on a light bike. I almost got sucked in underneath one once. 😬 😱 You don't soon forget that lesson after it happens to you. I never let it happen again after that. 41 years of riding so far. I always ride with the mindset that i'm invisible to other drivers, and i always put my headlight on highbeam for daytime riding. (It probably doesn't help much, but i do it anyways. Better safe than sorry, or dead) I NEVER assume anything out on the road.

bikes and beer.. yep a super bad combo. unfortunately my buddy joined a group of cruiser boys who's idea of a group ride was to gather at a nearby bar, have a few drinks, hop on the bikes, and then literally speed at triple digits to the next bar to have more drinks.. when he invited me to ride with him and this group, i didn't know this at the time, and what's even worse is one of them riding and drinking was a beginner on a 1300 CC Vtwin, needless to say, the one drink I did have i waited until it processed, and parted ways, told my buddy not my bag. I might be dumb on a curvy road, and push my bike, but I don't drink and ride. last thing I need in a ride is a group of inebriated riders suddenly having a cock measuring contest of their ego's

I have a question for everybody. I live in Pittsburgh PA. I've never rode a motorcycle before. I do have experience riding manual quads and pit bikes/dirt bikes. I do understand how a clutch and front/rear brakes work etc. I have my motorcycle permit, I have been trying to sign up for an msf course. But with covid etc, there hasn't been any openings, they're all booked up and there's issues with them changing suppliers of the classes etc. My question is, would it be OK to go buy a used bike for a couple thousand bucks, and have my buddy ride it home for me or take it to a parking lot for me and allow myself to start teaching myself? I'd like to get on a bike asap. And trying to get into these classes has proven extremely difficult.
@onedayatatime8756
@onedayatatime8756 3 жыл бұрын
I did. I never took a course in my life, and I've been riding for 41 years. Just take it slow, wear your safety gear, and get used to the machine that you're ridding. A big open parking lot, as you suggested, is a great idea. I just bought a used bike and rode it home from there. THAT wasn't a great idea, but i did make it home. (It's safer in an open parking lot. No traffic to worry about that way. A mistake in traffic can be deadly.) I rode through my neighbors wooden fence the very next day on it, too. Took out a whole 8 foot section of it. (It collapsed.) 😛 🤣 Practice makes perfect. P.S. Me and the bike were fine. His fence?... not so much. Oooops!! 🤦‍♂️ 😂 Watching a KZbin video, or two, on riding for beginers may be helpful as well. There's always something you can learn that you might not have known. I didn't have online services way back then. Never heard of a riders course back then either, but i wouldn't have taken one anyway.

Stopping at a green light is a great way to get rear ended, I see it all the time at junctions and roundabouts, people either looking at the colour of the light or trying to see around the car in front to see if they can go immediately after them without realising the car in front has actually stopped and either go into the back of them or have to slam on the brakes If you're going to use that tip make sure you keep a close eye on the person behind you so you don't get slammed from behind
