Hard to find neutral? Back-in-the-day we'd do what we called 'break the clutch' before we even started the engine. Put it in gear and with the clutch lever squeezed to the handlebar, rock the bike back n forth until the clutch sticktion breaks free. Now you're ready to go. When you come to a situation that dictates a full stop, click it into neutral before you are stopped by 2 to 5 feet. Your previously 'freed' clutch won't drag you through the intersection as you look for neutral. Love your videos, I have a Desert Sled, and started dirt riding with a '67 TR6C.

The Sled is more like a 70’s “enduro,” similar to an old SL, DT, XT, or even a later XL. The Triumph fits the “Scrambler” mode better as long as the bike’s owner makes a couple easy mods to make it dirt worthy.

Just a pure stupid illustration: when out with my scooter if the battery is weak or whatever is the reason having my kickstarter has avoided me calling any road assistance many times! The Desert Sled is more offroad-ready, right off the showroom floor. The aftermarket supports the Triumph 900 well enough with suspension, power parts, and weight-shaving though. Scramblers used to be built, rather than bought anyway, and some Triumphs look REALLY nice too. Strip some weight, then swap on some taller, long-travel, fully-adjustable boingers. As an aside, i think it's hilarious that the little Leoncino Trail 500 I just got my wife has 50mm USD forks. They aren't long-travel or adjustable though.

The statement you made about the difficulty in finding neutral; I had the same problem until I found out the little screw just on the inside of the clutch lever, can be used to adjust the clutch. What's really happening is that your clutch is not fully released it's still pulling a little bit. That's why you think that you aren't getting high torque when you go above 7000 revs per minute but actually that's when the true power kicks in on your Ducati. Your clutch needs adjusting because it's not fully released. You should have a little bit of play, and when you pull the clutch after half a centimeter or so you should hear a tiny little click. Once I calibrated that properly neutral it was instantly easy to find, and the bike started performing better at high reps which is how the bike is supposed to perform in the first place. It's able to perform hi power low revs and high-power Hi-Revs. Get your clutch fixed man. if you are losing power at high revs and I heard you say it doesn't seem to have much power at high revs, that means your clutch is not completely released it's too tight

I have a question... as a somewhat newer street rider (I have a lot of off-road under my belt) I find myself far more comfortable in the left side of the lane for 2 reasons... #1... if a car wants to pass the slow driver behind me... he may not see me if I'm trudging along in the right side of the lane. Yet, you seem to be very comfortable over there and spend a lot of time there. #2... if I'm riding at night and a car with a burned out driver's side light is approaching me... depth perception becomes a real problem. So... I like to position myself such that I appear to be a car with a burned out passenger light. This removes the "OMG is the driver's side of that approaching "car" partly in my lane?" factor. What is your reasoning for hanging in the right side of the lane?

When I had the Urban Enduro I found it was imposible sometimes to actually get down into 1st from 2nd, or vice versa, where it'd get stuck in neutral for either an additional click (if that would even work) or sometimes requiring taking out a bit of clutch/rolling/throttling to get it to click into gear. Admittedly I'd rather be stuck 'in' a gear rather than neutral, but still....such a strange gearbox.

So many great bikes the past 3-4 years. Many of the specs are Similar and all very reliable as it is rare to be stuck on the side of the road with early warnings and limp modes of new bikes. Pick by what pulls your heart strings. V2’s and triples are great for both torque and horsepower

I have an infatuation with the Desert Sled. Any suggestions for something that is similar but smaller and more affordable - maybe around 650cc. The Triumph 400x is on the radar, but motor probably under sized.

What might help with choice is the dealer. All things being equal, choose the best dealer.

Sir please also mention metric units while explaining specifications. It makes it easier for a lot of us.

Love my Desert Sled! Had a 2016 Bonnie Scrambler as well. Sticking with the Desert Sled!

It didn’t seem like it could do well in snow and ice last week but ok

I'm sure it would do just fine with studded tires like any sane person would use in those conditions.

@@Mr_Eyeholes NO. The problem is both of those bikes are too heavy to screw around in snow for the skill level of that rider. Even with a guy who knew what to do, both of those bikes would be hard to handle. BTW I don't know of any motorcycle tires that you can buy with studs? For ice racing etc. you take the wheel off and screw through the inside of the tires to give you spikes.

@@crp9985 NO. I didn't claim there were pre-studded tires, did I? Seems we both know how to accomplish that if need be, though. You're entitled to your opinions while I'll be enjoying my Goldwing Ice Racer Edition (that isn't too heavy for ME to handle) while cruising over the frozen tundra.

@@crp9985 lighter bikes are worse in the snow. Makes the studs less effective too. KZbin yourself some harely ice racing and feel bad about yourself
