around 12.00 you mention it won't lean like a sportsbike. That is mostly a confidence issue. Once you get used to these bikes you can lean them a long way and really carve up twisty roads aggressively. You can also commit to corners on less than perfect roads (pretty much 90% of roads) in a way sportbike riders can't. Bumps and road imperfections are just ironed out by these bikes. This allows you to just pick a line and ride it without stressing about the road surface too much. I had no trouble keeping up with my mate on his R1, when I was on my VStrom1000, and he was a proper fast rider.

Please don't let the A2-restricted 650 color your view of the unrestricted. I've got a 2017 V-Strom 650. I spent all of my time on a naked bike so the V-Strom was a huge difference. Compared to a naked bike with the same engine, just a 4hp difference (71 vs 75hp), the V-Strom is definitely slightly slower and has a lower top speed, but it's much higher (better vision in traffic), overall is much more comfortable at higher speeds (in its own way*), and can also handle off-road situations so much better if you're running even something as street-oriented as the stock tire which is a 90-10 tire. Only issue is mud/grass but that's an issue with any tire which isn't a knobby. Looking forward to wearing out the stock set of tires so I can switch to some Michelin Anakee Adventure tires. Sport riding? Check. Touring? Check. City riding? Check. Off-road? Check.

My first bike was a 650 V-Strom back in 2013. It was an amazing bike for me because it did not take me long to gain confidence with the motor and it wasn't long before I was leaning over and scraping the pegs. I was in Colorado at the time and I rode in snow, dirt roads, 4X4 trails, and highways. While it wasn't sport bike fast, I found it had a lot of useful speed, especially off the line. All in all, it was a great bike for me and I look back at it with fond memories.

The “Falling Rocks” sign is not to prevent you from getting hit by a falling rock, but to warn you that around that next corner a BIG rock (or rocks, as in more than one) could be right in the road. Been there, done that. Nothing like ripping around a curve right into a minefield of rocks and boulders.
@actstuntcam5 жыл бұрын
Definitely something up with the motor on that 650 you rode. The old one is almost as quick as the 1000 up to about 170kph. The new one (The one you are on here) is up on power and torque compared to the original DL650. It should not feel like a 300.
@FoodExperimentsUnlimited4 жыл бұрын
In my experience (I own a 2019 V-Strom 650XT), is insanely fast at any RPM, no 'petering' after 6000 RPM. In fact, it comes alive even more. I can hit 70mph in 2nd gear just before the red line. Which is actually insane. The 00-60mph on it is 3.5 seconds btw, which is faster than some lambos and rawris. Just a truly amazing bike in my opinion.

I had a '13 V-Strom 650 for about a year, with a full set of metal panniers a touring windshield, and a few other little farkles. Took it to Kelowna and did some riding in and around that area of BC, it did a great job keeping up with the winding roads and beautiful scenery. It was a great bike. I only decided to sell it after my dad replaced his Honda Varadero with a Triumph Tiger 1200 and i bought his Honda.

Papa Yam, I started on an sv650 as my very first bike, I picked it up really quick but doing long full day rides was murder. I recently got a '14 V-strom 650 abs and I am very easily going as fast or faster on the V than I was on the SV, even with dual sport tires I am leaning it over like a pro and several other seasoned riders with track experience have assured me that I'm doing way better than I think I am. The V-strom can hang with the sport bike guys. 650 not fast enough? try the 1000. 1000 to heavy, the V-strom and the SV have the same engine, swap some cams, get a filter, exhaust and a tune and you'll probably be back in that range.

The V Strom isnt a true Adv. Bike. Its an extremely fun, sporty midsized touring bike. Which can do some light trail riding if you have to, but it wont be to much fun. I run 90/10 tires on mine. Even though it looks way cooler with 70/30 tires, they are just not practical for me. They are super reliable, cheap to own and great on fuel.

Try a derestricted VStrom if that’s what it actually is. I’m biased because I have one but one thing I’ve never thought is that it is weak. And the handling is way better than I think you gave it credit for. It’s not a Daytona sure. But I guess coming from something like those to a touring/adv bike, it’s going to feel ungainly by comparison. Great place to try one out though. Enjoy the look.

Also if you liked the V-Strom, you should check out the Kawasaki Versys 650, same style of bike, but the Versys is much sportier and pavement oriented. I own the 650 and have ridden the 1000. The 1000 might be slightly faster but the only real feature that the 1000 has that I wish the 650 had is the angle-adjustable windscreen. The 650 is all-around a better bike. Lighter, you get to play with the power more, and it's friendlier when the loose terrain comes around
