Economist, author and former Greek finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, says we are being ruled by "technofeudal lords" who control the world's major social media, search and shopping platforms, using powerful algorithms to shape our behaviour to their interests.
He argues doubling down on democracy is the only way out, proposing regulations to enforce the interoperability of social media accounts to break open the "sheep enclosures" that most of us are trapped inside.
