I often laugh at people from other countries telling Americans they don't know where my country is or its capital when they don't know the equivalent size to a country a U.S. State's location or its capital.

I’ve always had a passport and everyone I grew up with had them too. I also need one for my job and in order to see some of my family. I travel internationally at least 3 times per year.

The reason why most Americans don't have a passport is we can travel to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and all the other overseas territories without one. The country is so big and diverse we can spend entire vacations without one and still do a lot of sight seeing.

All Americans already have an Identity card so they really don't need a passport. In America your drivers license is your identity card. If you don't drive you can get issued a non-driver ID card. In the US, there are many places and things that you want to buy that require that you show an identification.

I got my first passport when I was 15. I've had one ever since. Canada, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Germany, Belgium, Iceland, Norway and The Netherlands are a few of the countries I've been to, some of them several times. None of them for work. It is more expensive to get there from here, but totally worth it. Also, the US is so big, that you can see so much, even without a passport. I don't think I know anyone under the age of 70 who doesn't have one. All 3 of my kids have and use them. My 80 year old parents have and use theirs. In other words, to say we don't have passports is just silly.
