On bellingers contact/power stats as a cubs fan: he changed his approach when he joined the cubs. He swings at a lot of first pitches but then almost becomes a completely different hitter with two strikes. He turns from a power hitter into a contact bat. So many of his hits in the past few years have been 2-strike slap hits for singles or doubles. Also, I don’t know numbers but eye-test wise Wrigley was super unfavorable to hitter this year because it felt like the wind was blowing in for every homestand. Expect home run numbers to go up even if he has a similar year to last year, especially with the short porch in play.

He comes with a big swing approach but when he needs to he shortens his swing to make contact. But when he’s cold and goes through stretches where he’s just lost at the plate it can get bad. He seemed to avoid the long cold spells in 2023 but not so much this past season

The players would never go for it, but I'd rather see maybe higher AAV, and shorter term contacts. I am in agreement with you though, I'm not mad he left for the money, especially since that contract will most likely go from 765 to 805 with the opt out after 5 however it is structured.

This might sound crazy to some of you: But since Gleyber Torres was apparently holding out hope of returning next year, might it be worth seeing if he’d be amenable to a relatively cheap 1-year “prove it” deal with perhaps a team option for a second year? I realize he’s not a perfect player, that he can be annoyingly prone at times to mental lapses and cutting corners, and that his first half of 2024 was absolutely atrocious. But he did pick it up in a big way during the second half and into the playoffs, and I certainly wouldn’t mind having *_that_* version of Gleyber back (or for that matter, the 2023 version of him that had a .273 BA, 25 HR, 68 RBI with a .800 OPS). We know Gleyber is never going to be the standout player or superstar we all once thought he would be, but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side and right now I’m not seeing a whole lot of better or cheaper options on the free agent or trade market. He’s also still fairly young at 28 and has proved himself to be exceptionally durable for a second baseman, which is no small thing considering the higher than average injury rate among most second basemen. Between all that and what I suspect would be his excitement at coming back next year after he didn’t think he would be, maybe just maybe this could be a low-risk, high-reward move. I’m also fairly confident that Jazz could handle playing third base full-time: He definitely has a good enough arm for it and wasn’t half-bad there this year, and should be even better next year with more time to get fully acclimated during winter and spring training. Thoughts, anyone?
@bigpictureguys84154 күн бұрын
Considering how badly we need offense we should absolutely do that if he’s willing. I know we wanna prioritize defense but you can have one bad defender if the other 8 are above average. Gleyber might be willing to do this considering he has experienced the walk year anxiety and can take that knowledge into 2025 and show why he’s an excellent hitter. 6 of 7 seasons with 100+ OPS+
@EricOfTheNorthlands4 күн бұрын
@@bigpictureguys8415 I also think Gleyber’s defensive shortcomings need to be put in some perspective: Gleyber’s main issue, aside from the occasional mental lapses that make us all cringe, is simply his below average range. But "below average" doesn’t necessarily mean terrible if he at least makes all or most of the plays he does get to without booting the ball or throwing it away as other second basemen have been known to do. By way of comparison, I don’t think Gleyber is any worse of a second baseman than Juan Soto is as a rightfielder (not that Gleyber is anywhere near the hitter Soto is obviously, but just saying). He’s certainly not as bad at the keystone as Gary Sanchez was behind the plate a few years ago when his frequent passed balls and other defensive shortcomings became a serious issue for the team. Plus, as you indicated, you can can more than compensate for a second baseman with below average range if his hitting is above average and if he’s paired with a shortstop like Volpe who has above average to excellent range.
@gregoryfarshtey68564 күн бұрын
Problem is Gleyber can slump for half a season. He was a black hole the whole first half.
@EdTignor4 күн бұрын
We can't take his defense. We don't have strikeout pitchers. Cole even struggled getting guys out with 2 strikes last year. Fried gives up hard contact and ground balls with a low whiff rate. We gotta take D over O at 2nd.
@EricOfTheNorthlands4 күн бұрын
@@gregoryfarshtey6856 That's true. But don't you think, as the other person said, some of that may have been attributable to walk-year anxiety? And that he probably would be better able to handle it this time around from having already experienced it and overcome it in the second half? I'm not necessarily saying that the Yanks SHOULD try to re-sign Gleyber. I'm just not sure what better options remain that fit within the team's overall spending plans for next year.
@ArniePalmie4 күн бұрын
I still think getting Ha-Seong Kim is a move. He’s essentially the same offense as Torres last year but better fielding and baserunning. GG Utility who can man 3rd but can move around to SS or 2B if there’s an injury or if Jazz has to move to the OF. Also brings top class chase, whiff, K and BB rates along with good baserunning which could translate to a leadoff man. Not to mention it just makes the team more athletic and dynamic. Entering last season Volpe was really the only player you’d say was athletic in regards to fielding and baserunning but with Belli, Jazz, and Kim you’ve introduced a level of versatility and athleticism that has been a major weakness of past teams.
@bigpictureguys84154 күн бұрын
In Gleyber’s unusually bad year he had 57 more hits than Kim in 195 more PA. Torres has an OPS+ of 100 or over 6 of 7 seasons, Kim has 2 in 4

kim is nowhere close to gleyber offensively we need to bring gleyber back
@ArniePalmie4 күн бұрын
@@bigpictureguys8415 Wouldn’t call it unusual when 3/7 seasons are similar to last year. Yes Torres has better career offensive numbers. I’m not saying Kim is an offensive threat, but a .700 OPS is pretty comparable to Torres’ .709 last year. The point is that he brings value in fielding and baserunning and while he isn’t going to put up eye popping offensive numbers, he brings with him 98th percentile in Chase %, 92nd in whiff %, 81st in K% and 96th in BB%. They aren’t going to get some huge offensive impact player at 3B so why not go with a player who has the makings of someone that can set the table for the bigger bats all while providing solid defense?
@ArniePalmie4 күн бұрын
@@colec1033.700 vs .709OPS last year says differently. Also my comment has nothing to do with bringing Torres back. This is why they traded for Jazz. The entire point is they need someone to play 3B. Torres doesn’t play 3B. Jazz shouldn’t be at 3B, he’s most valuable at 2B.
@samphilo50354 күн бұрын
@@ArniePalmie Post all star break Gleyber had a .780 OPS, in September he had a .850. Pretty good postseason too. I think he'd be cheaper than Kim, a significantly better hitter and hopefully the bad defense and baserunning get better with age for him (We've been saying that for years tho lol). I think Kim may be the better player overall but Gleyber being a .800 OPS guy like he was in 2023 is a decent bet and it would be cheaper. Trying to replace the loss in Soto hitting and overall power wise isn't gonna help with Kim. With Jazz I'd say start him at third and with injuries or poor defense that comes throughout the season he could end up at center and Belli at first or something. Kind've a rant but I've been mulling over Kim vs Gleyber a lot I'd also miss Gelyber so much

their lineup is deep, almost all are above-average hitters and fielders, besides catcher and 3B since that's vacated by Paredes right now. they were a superstar away from a scary lineup, and they got it in Tucker. they still might extend him, and even after a year Tucker might choose to stay if he likes Wrigley and the Cubs offer him big money, which they likely will if he has a great year. starters are great, maybe 1 good starter away from a scary rotation of (Burnes/Sasaki/other top free agent)-Shota-Steele-Taillon-Boyd/Assad/Brown/Wicks. their biggest liability has been the bullpen, but they've acquired Eli Morgan, now Cody Poteet, and they can use their excess young starters as relievers too. Nate Pearson, Tyson Miller, Jorge Lopez, and Porter Hodge all had strong finishes to last season as well. I'd say real contenders, for both playoffs and a title. they took 4 of 6 from the dodgers last year, fwiw.

I think they go and get an insurance OF in someone familiar like a Duggie or Bader if they’re okay with being a platoon kind of guy, hopefully not being out there helps the injury concerns. I would prefer if they don’t sign Bregman since I think that would be a waste. For 1B in my personal opinion, Ben Rice is a young phenom potentially in the making, a nice mentor at the position makes the most sense. If they decide to go all-in on Alonso he kinda gives me Jason Giambi vibes at the stadium, but you’d then reduce the likelihood of developing Rice into something more.

Nobody is Ted Williams, not Williams in his prime, not Williams in his first three years, not ever. Ted Williams is hands down the greatest hitter in history. But That's not the comparison here, and neither is Judge. Bellinger is a career .259 with a total of 196 hrs and 597 rbi and a career 818 OPS and 334 OBP. With one less season Soto has 201 hrs, 592 rbi and his OPS is 953 and OBP is 421. Bellinger is 29 and Soto is 26. Bellinger fell off a cliff after 2019, 111 of his hrs are from his first 3 years and so are 289 of his rbi. He will never ever be Bellinger from 2027-2019 again. Over the last 4 years he's averaged about 18 hrs and 70 rbi a year. Not to mention, his one gold glove was for playing rf not cf (in 2019 AJ Pollock and Alex Verdugo played most of the game in center for LA, Bellinger played only 25 games there that year), which apparently is where the Yanks want to play him. And the Yanks are still paying him 25 million this year and if he takes the player option for 2026 they will have to pay him 22.5 million. That would be 47.5 million for two years of Bellinger at 18 hrs/70 rbi per...And he's injured a lot, over the last two seasons with the Cubs he missed 64 games. The Yankees didn't win that trade, the Cubs did. It's called a salary dump and the Yankees fell for it.

Don't love paying Bellinger that much, but hopefully he takes full advantage of the short porch in RF

Jurickson Profar… how is he not getting more attention in the Bronx

Santander had 44HR last year (more than Soto) but aside from that, NY could still trade Stroman to Cleveland for Naylor *who also plays 1B & OF* had 31 HR & hits left (short porch)

If your a Yankee fan any move they make is trolled by other teams fans Mainly the Dodgers & Mets fans that slow your Role becuz yall's teams came out of obscurity,You don't see no deferrals here,we're the evil empire and i love it,Thats why the Death star alarm plays in the Bronx when a mofo has 2 strikes on him

12:05 I thought Fried wasn’t 27 because of the signing bonus/some of it was pushed to the later years?

This lineup is so sus considering Stanton isn’t a safe bet to stay healthy. If you can get Berti back for cheap I’d feel more comfortable with him back in the lineup

can someone please explain why Oswaldo isn’t ever the talk? The kid is better than half of the team last year. And he actually hustles every fucking play

Supposedly Anthony Santander is coming to the Yanks. He followed the Yankees IG account this afternoon. The yanks want him to play 1st😩😩
@jackblanda31494 күн бұрын
Quick thing on the payroll table. Max Fried is a backloaded contract. He’s only owed 12 million per year over the next 2 years. On the sheet it has him at 27 million. That’s saved the Yankees 15 million right there as well as the fact they are going to dump Stroman, which is another 18. You’re look at Pete Alonso and more

You really don't NEED anyone else, you just need your players to actually produce the way you thought they would. Rizzo, Verdugo, & LeMahieu were complete busts while Stanton can't consistently stay on the field (but playing well when he's available, especially in the playoffs this year) If the Yanks can get the expected production out their people, the lineup could be something like: Chisolm 2B Judge RF Bellinger CF Stanton DH Wells C Dominguez LF Cabrera 1B Peraza 3B Volpe SS They got top pitching, just need to make contact and get on base Moneyball style (what Soto was really good at). Anyone who's not producing by the trade deadline, get a rental or an upgrade for cheap - historically the Yanks are TERRIBLE at developing their talent (Andujar, Urshela, Sanchez, Frazier, Betances, etc.) and gotta give the young dudes a chance to carry the load moving forward
@dereksimon53963 күн бұрын
We’ve all been saying that for years though. Yes if these guys play to their potential we’re fine. But half of them haven’t. Dodgers showing you can never have too much production
@freddygonzalez77823 күн бұрын
@@dereksimon5396 You're not wrong - I guess my point is more along the lines of trying to build from within like Yanks from '96 - '01 as opposed to trying to buy another World Series like the Dodgers (or '09 Yanks)

Regardless on how you look are it, the Yankees are still 2 infielders short. It doesn’t matter how you build the lineup, the ends result is the same: 2 INF short. I would prefer them putting Bellinger at 1B and get a 3B, so they can move Jazz to 2B. That way their INF defense would be great, which would be great considering most of their pitchers are ground ball pitchers. I personally hate Bregman, but he is an outstanding 3B. Adding him would really fix the whole INF. As a Yankee fan who just want them to win, I’m over all of the Houston cheating nonsense. Do that and wait until next year for Tucker next year. They will be the highest bid for him. Cohen and the Mets will pass on Tucker to go after Guerrero for 1B next year, that is why they are passing on Alonso this year.
