If this was a two year deal, I would be pissed. But his 2nd half is encouraging & we've seen plenty of vets find the magic for one year after being traded.

Good pickup Paul will be solid defensively and his offense if it duplicates what he did last year will be a plus for the Yankees. Plus I believe he will help Ben Rice!

You guys are absolutely wrong on this one. This is a perfect signing. No long-term contract and he is a professional hitter. He’s a better hitter than Walker and Alonso overall. I would’ve liked Santana, but this was my second choice. He’s a great defender and a more balanced hitter.

Yeah, call me crazy, but I'm much more comfortable signing a 37-year old Goldschmidt over a 39-year old Carlos Santana, even if Santana can hit left-handed. Oh, and by the way, Santana hit .219 vs. RHP as a LHB last year. Goldy hit .230. So, I'm not sure I see any argument for Santana.

I think the expectation is league avg with veteran intangibles and durability, with a small chance for a sizable productivity dip and a slight chance for a return toward MVP form. Which is honestly fine for this team on a one year 12 milly contract.

Goldschmidt is in the twilight of his career but he is better than anyone the Yanks had at that position for a few years….at 12 million it’s a steal. Cashman can’t spend top dollar to fill every hole so what this tells me is there is something in the works for either 2nd or 3rd base. My guess is Jazz goes to second and Bregman will be at 3rd. Paul is also just a stop gap, it’s only 1 season. They will probably give Ben Rice some playing time, unless Goldschmidt is on fire. If Rice doesn’t show much, which I don’t expect, there will be a very nice free agent looking for a new team to call home next offseason named Vladdy. I think Cashman is using a short and long term plan here
@maestromecanico59713 сағат бұрын
Okay. Did NOT see this coming. (Deep breaths of contemplation.) Goldy @ 1B for the 2025 season. If he goes down Bellinger can move to 1B. Then who plays the OF? I’m thinking, long term, Judge is moving to 1B sooner than we anticipated, hence no current long term solution for 1B right now.

Platoon him with Rice and he will be alright. The fact that he was much better at the end of the season to me would mean since hes older it takes him longer to get going. I think alot of the metrics and analytics cant measure the pedigree a player has. This guy might feel rejuvinated by a chance win world series and get back some of what made him great.To me this move will bode well for the playoffs more so then regular season.
