Before buying a Yaqi razor I wanted to understand the difference between several models and found this video which is a very comprehensive review of Yaqi razors. I am researching mild open comb razors so looks like I should get a Yaqi Mellon open comb. Thanks for uploading this video.

This is a very good overview. I own several yaqi heads: the mellon, the beast, the "top aggressive slant", the knight helmet, the scallop. For daily usage, the scallop turned out to be extremely nice. Not too aggressive but you still can feel the blade very well. The slant yields incredibly close shaves, and feels very smooth, but it is an extremely aggressive razor and you really need to be on your toes. I'd say it's en par with the ikon tech. Beast and knight helmet, not my cup of tea. I like the mellon quite a bit. It is mild but pair it with a feather and it can be quite effective. It also allows to use a cool-looking double-open-comb head without having a super-aggressive razor. I also own several of the color handles by yaqi, I find them all really well balanced and high quality.

Just picked up a Yaqi Gunmetal Mellon Safety Razor Head and had a fantastic shave. The double open comb design just glides over my face.

Karl I find peoples experience with the Mellon Head so baffling... The reason is I can not get a good shave with the mellon head to save my life. On the other hand the New Flipside is a killer good shaver IMHO. Kit

Hi there l have found the DOC Yaki gives a wonderful shave. Now trying the Yaki SE razor now ,but getting duller blades for it as its so Aggressive . But lovely small head.

I think the Mellon and Razorock SLOC are the same head, so I wonder if Yaqi, Razorock and Maggard heads can be put on each other's handles? So a Yaqi head on a Razorock handle, for example. Do you know?

No worries. Also wanted to ask you about the MingShin(or Merkur Futur), do you have any difficulty around the nose area? Some people say the Futur head is big and hard to maneuver. And are there any other razors you would recommend for a relative novice? I got a Baili BR179 a few weeks ago (my first DE), it works good but feels a bit cheap to me, also its not quite as close as i would like. I liked the style of the Yaqis-- matte black, colors, weighty, nice design, etc. but just looking for a stylish Quality razor for long term use that hopefully doesn't break the bank

@@giant_avocado7973 Man you sound exactly like me when talking about the Ming Shi and the Baili razors. I hate the Ming Shi because of how fat the head is and it is almost impossible to get up under my nose with it. I parked that razor two years ago for good. Also same issue with the baili razors. They just don't shave close enough because they are a shave number razor of 3.0 on the one to ten scale. Now I will give you two razors that I absolutely use myself and will never part with. The BEST razor I have ever used Is the Razorock Game Changer .84 It is a very thin head it does not have exposed blade ends, it is made from 316 Marine Grade Steel, It is perfect and I suggest getting it with the Barber Pole Handle. Best Razor on the planet aggression level is a perfect 4.0 an it sells for $57.99. Secondly for a super smooth shave and 4.5 aggression shave number the Razorock German 37 Slant Bar DE is really Great and is only about 20 bucks From Italianbarber.com I highly suggest those two shavers. They are my absolute best ~! I get deep BBS shaves with Both. Rapira Platinum Lux in the Game Changer Point 84 and Voskhod Blades in the German 37 Slant. Good luck and great shaves. Kit

Hi! Nice videos! I'm a happy owner of a Mercury Futur, wich is always on position 6 (most aggressive configuration) and shaving perfectly. I wonder if the Beast would provide an even more aggressive shaving experience...

Guilherme , The Beast is an 8 on the aggression Scale and smooth considering to blade gap. I don't have experience with a Mercury Futur Do you mean Merkur ? But even though I came up with the Beast Hybrid Easy Flow Head for the Yaqi Company I don't use aggressive heads for my shaves at all anymore... isn't that Ironic~! LOL Kit

That is a problem ....the only stand I found is the Black Plastic Stands on ali Express and even then you have to hang it just between the knot and the bottom of the handle George. Kit

Yeah Mike the Beast Easy Flow head I came up with for Yaqi now sells really well and the shave angle Is "normal " but man is it aggressive ~! It is an 8 on the one to ten Scale. So you are right NOT a newbie razor ~! Kit

Hey Kit - The reference to "easy flow" where does that come from. My initial thoughts were that it referred to the base plate with the extra cut outs in it, therefore giving an "easy flow" to the shaving gunk. But then I was confused as the Beast Hybrid easy Flow does not use that base plate....

B Chan when I came up with the Beast ......right .....I wanted to bring out what it did best ... Yes the Yaqi Scalloped Base plate that has cut out slots in it when combined with the large gap from under the blade to safety bar gives and incredible EASY FLOW of the soap out the the slots of the base plate. It does not work like a open comb by pushing soap under the base plate but rather the soap goes under the blade and out the large slots of the base plate. It works like a very efficient closed comb head but still has the open comb top cap from the Yaqi Mellon Head. Truly, I never used a razor where it was less possible to clog up. The term Easy Flow totally came from me and totally what I think of it...... I thought of it and I named it for Grace Chen at Yaqi. The Beast Hybrid Easy Flow Aggressive Head is now Yaqi's number two best seller ever in their line up. I also came up for Yaqi the Your Choice Line Razor that has three heads and is sells pretty well too ! Not bad for an old man like me huh ? Kit

Excellent Stuff. I'm a little confused though, are there two plates with cut-outs, one scalloped and one cobbed? I think you are doing a great job as the YAQI range is obviously good, but far too hard to understand to be commercially accepted. I hope I too can unravel the mystery for them and help present the range in an easy to understand manner. The "Your Choice" Razor, can't find reference to that anywhere other than your site, can you explain more about it? Or can you direct me to a video maybe?

B Chen the Yaqi cobbed head is not made the same as the Yaqi scalloo head both are closed comb razor and both have soap channel slots. I would venture to say two different factory sources. The Yaqi cobbed is less aggressive to shave with is all in practical terms. The Cobbed head shaves at level 5 and the Scalloped head at level 6 . Kit

T Rex there is a DLC is that the one you are asking about ? The scallop head and the cobbed head have large enough gaps to take down many days growth . The open comb mellon head is too mild to give a good shave for me period. Kit

Yes, I'm talking for the DLC. So, I may go with the closed comb Kit. I often shave 6-7 days of growth. But I like the design of the DLC a lot.

Yaqi calls a lot of their razors DLC's So if you still don't know which ones I am talking about let me know ~! Kit

In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia.
