Two of my grandkids know I like old hand tools. One gifted me an old Stanley 220 block plane in terrible shape. Worse than the one you have. I worked on it a couple days (off and on) restoring it and sharpening to razor sharpness to be in service again. I re-gifted it back to him at Christmas. His dad said he uses it a lot. I was gifted another that is probably a Chinese block plane, but it is in the works for restoration. Makes me proud. Looking forward to your restoration of the block plane.

On the grease pencil, did you notice the phone numbers? First two letters of the local phone company are capitalized. EMpire 1-3000 LIberty 2-7290 Using a phone number pad, EM translates to 36, so the phone number would be 361-3000. The Boston number would be 542-7290. Back in the day of rotary phones if you were in the same exchange, you just needed to dial the last 4. If you were in the same local phone company, then the last 5. You only needed all 7 digits to dial if you were in a different phone company.
