Thanks guys. We were leaning towards a full beam, thinking it would be tougher. After watching this video, we bought a half beam. Great video. Very helpful.

I was looking on the websites and notice there is a half beam and a full beam. So I went on KZbin like everybody would I guess and I came across this video. This video definitely sealed the deal with me and I bought the 35 ton half beam model for my application. Also I can stick it on the front of my 16-foot utility trailer with 2 ft mesh sides. As I split the wood it all falls in the trailer all around the splitter, so I just walk it on the trailer towards the rear ramp gate and start building a stack. The ramp gate acts like a wall and is a good starting place for my stack of wood I just split. When I cut a tree I try to make them all about 16 inches or thereabouts. So each row is more than a face cord but rides very nicely back to the house. Either way, however everyone else does it, this was an excellent video and definitely helped me decide my purchase.

Great review in comparison of the two different splitters. The biggest consideration that I see is cylinder replacement is much easier on a full beam being more readily available. Keep up the good work guys 👍👍

Hey guys, watched this video a few times while I was looking for a log splitter. The information you gave was critical in my decision to go with the half beam (28 ton). I will not be towing it except in my own woodlot, want to move it around by hand, one man assembly (but I'd advise two), the better ergo's and valve position sold me. I could not be happier. The best real world video on KZbin for comparison.

I bought the 35 ton full beam. I operate it with my older grandsons. The controls on the side are lower and keep them in a safe location away from the log under pressure.

Thanks for the video. After extensive research and reading lots of reviews your video was the final piece that convinced me to buy Yardmax as well as going with the halfbeam. We split wood for two house and this splitter looks like it will help us out tremendously. Appreciate the thorough review.

Great review, made me feel more comfortable about my half beam Yardmax purchase, much appreciated to see these two in action.

This seems like it would be a much better unit if it was a push model. I.e it pushed the log into splitting wedges at the base and you could adjust the 4 way a lot more giving better wood yields. But so far I like the product I may be buying this thing in the near future.

Great Video, I used your video to chose the half beam and it works great, except it does not automatically go in reverse. Is the re an adjustment to can suggest. THANKS for your video and expertise...

Just ordered the half beam and hope it's up to the task. I have a huge stack of 4 foot diameter big leaf maple rounds and they deflated my ego. I offered several buddies the chance to split them by hand, but their egos deflated as well and nothing got split. I have heavy timber here in the PNW and this unit will be much appreciated. Will post up if I have issues. Subscribed and thanks for the simple, concise and helpful video. BTW I paid 1500 plus tax and free shipping on mine, 8/17

Stefano Dogg Congratulations! Where did you buy yours from?
@stefanodogg2807 жыл бұрын
jet.com the only downside is they aren't very helpful about an exact delivery date. One or two weeks is the best I can extract out of them. BTW some of these maple rounds weigh well over 300 lbs and even a Peavy can barely move them, you need other tools and supports like 2 x 4 s to deal with them
@stefanodogg2807 жыл бұрын
Update, I called their CS number today and finally got some info about the delivery (The e-mail CS was horrible) and found out that I'll get an e-mail and tracking number, and that the delivery truck will have a tailgate lift. Will update when I get it and try it out

Awesome! The wood box it comes in is nice. One warning, the metal clips that hold it closed can be sharp and can cut your fingers easily. Let us know when you get it!

Just got it today.. haven't removed it from the box, but opened the top for a quick look. The control valve on top seems to be canted, I wonder if this will be an issue, or is it just not aligned yet as part of the assembly process? (Tommorrow AM)

half beam is way to go. Lighter, better ergonomic. Very satisfied with the product
@ikesquirrel3 жыл бұрын
I wish people/companies would just design things to be ergonomic to begin with. Both splitters could be equal in all aspects. It's not hard to design a splitter to be ergonomic and balanced. I built a splitter and it is balanced, ergonomic, and can run 60+ down the road. It has a big table and a 4 way wedge. It beats the pants off both of those splitters.

The review was excellent! I do wonder about the gas tank and oil tank. Ate both units protected from logs rolling off the log shelves. Looks to be the full beam maybe contained. The half can't tell. We are in the middle of cleaning up after a tornado. Can put my hands on either units. Seems yardmax is sold out everywhere. Is there a production issue ? Thanks for review

Any tips or tricks for starting this beast? I pull this damn recoil starter so many times I’m out of energy to split wood when it finally starts?

full beam has a 6 gallon hydro oil capacity versus 4.7 gallons in the half beam. I'm guessing that the full beam will run slightly cooler with more oil

Did you adjust the hydraulic lines on the unit? Just got mine (25ton) and the lines will be in the way for splitting.

Interesting, I haven't used a splitter in years and was not aware they make half beam splitters. Most recently I have been splitting the old fashioned way - with beer and muscle! lol! Needless to say I don't burn much wood!

I assume the half-beam tongue weight is less than the full-beam? I checked out a full-beam 25T today and the tongue weight is by far the heaviest of any 25T I've looked at. The Champion is the lightest and easiest to maneuver. Thanks for the comparison guys, it's very helpful. Note that my like is #340 for your video, and that number happens to be the cubic inches of my '69 Dodge Dart Swinger!

Hello. Does having more hydraulic fluid in the long beam give you any benefit either in cycle time or power?
@ts895405 жыл бұрын
How easy is it to find replacement cylinders for the half beam? I see full beam cylinder replacements everywhere, but wouldn't know the first thing about mucking with a half beam repair. Also, do you find that the half beams smaller hydro reservoir tends to overheat more quickly?

The full beam is obviously more sturdy. The unattached and unsupported rear portion of the cylinder on the half beam moves up and down drastically as you're splitting wood. It's obvious to me that while the center portion of the cylinder "floats" on the full beam model, it is still anchored at both ends by the pin in the rear and the wedge in the front. I think that's a sturdier build that will be less prone to the stresses involved in splitting wood and I think the full beam will outlast the half beam. Also, it appears that the hydraulic hoses on the half beam are in danger of being damaged by split chunks of wood falling on them when it is being used in the horizontal position. The hoses on the half beam, due to the "ergonomic?" positioning of the valve mechanism, seem to be capable of at least getting in the way of clearing the split pieces properly or with ease. The hoses on the full beam, due to the side positioning of the valve mechanism, are clear of falling wood and remain out of the way.

Do you know the max width & length of each? What effect do you think the lesser amount of hydrolic fluid makes between the two units? Thanks, I’m still on the face between them between the full & 1/2 beam. Any other thought you may have will greatly be appreciated. Thanks

So why do they still make the full beam? Interesting.
@WorkshopAddict7 жыл бұрын
Kevin Youngblut Per Yardmax, they sell more full beam splitters than half beam splitters in stores. On Amazon, they sell more half beam splitters than full beam. All I can think is that the people online did some research before purchase and the people in stores went for the looks of more metal.

That’s what I was thinking too... We have a half beam. They are pioneers with this design!!

I did not know the half beam existed and was not offered when I was shopping and I am very unhappy because the half beam would have been better for me now l am stuck and you know the rest with the full beam!
@RRaucina3 жыл бұрын
Why do you say there is an ergonomic difference in the half beam used vertically? Identical except for the valve location... Also you can sit down and with a kid to feed rounds, it moves very fast. The manufacturer certainly makes a bit more $$ with the half beam if only in steel weight and shipping.

Yardmax no longer has any technical support people. I just received my 3650. The wheel assembly instructions don’t match the wheels provided. After my first time splitting logs the machine started spewing out hydraulic oil. Since Yardmax has no tech people they said to take it to a shop. What a pathetic company…
@chrise15332 жыл бұрын
I do not recommend yardmax, my log splitter broke down spill hydraulic fluid and I have to replace the cylinder too, stay away from yardmax, they don’t honor the warranty either.

I will just say 2 words for the Half Beam. and no one mentioned. Oil cooler. Why? Very small Hydraulic tank. One truck load OK. Split all day trouble.
@tobyh36814 жыл бұрын
Agreed, the half beam will have a shorter less productive duty cycle due to less hydraulic oil capacity. It will get much hotter with prolonged splitting cycles.
