I went to Iceland on a knitting trip a few years ago and learned all about the yarn, it’s super interesting. The factory, Ístex, cuts and mixes the outer wool with the downy wool so it’s both warm and water-resistent. When you work with it, keep your gauge looser than normal, otherwise it loses the airiness and you end up with a stiff garment.

Very pretty yarn!! It'll make warm garments and accessories!! Hey Crystal, why don't you try softening it with hair conditioner instead of fab softener. I've always been told hair conditioner works best as it is pure sheep wool. Maybe try 2 little swatches and try fabric softener on one and hair conditioner on the second swatch and compare which is better!

Hey thanks for the review! I know a lot of people who knit with the pencil roving and yes it breaks easy. Pull gently when working with it. Almost everyone I know who loves it holds it with a lace weight mohair,silk blend. It has a lot of strength to it and helps the roving hold up.

Hey!🤍 so I’m from Iceland and the only thing I can say about the “léttlopi” is that yes it is really warm and it’s really good to wear something underneath because it’s not really soft.. you’ll get used to it the more you wear it. but the “lopi” just mean wool in English🤍

Beautiful yarns!! I love wool of all kinds. My mom.made each of is kids and spouses an icelandic sweater many years ago. They are so warm and cozy!!! There is alot of yarn on those but they are so light on weight. She had been so thrilled with the yarn and cood about how her hands felt so smooth and moist after working with it. The yarn apparently is high in lanolin. They are beautiful!!! I believe the yarn softens with use. You did good and I thank you for sharing.

This is so exciting. My partner loves Iceland and we went on holiday there a few years ago. He really wanted one of the jumpers but they were so expensive. This was before I learned to crochet and I’m been meaning to make him a jumper since then. I am from Iceland & live there. I love Iceldic wool lopi. There is something special about this wool that is difficult to explain, but the more you work with it the more you like it. The down part is that it can be itchy for some people but is possible to line it with some satin or fleece near the skin or wear it short time. Some people knit plötulopi and einband together to make it stronger. One adwise not so many know of is to warm up the lopi in water in a pot before knitting or crochet until boiling point, let it stay in the warm water few minutes then rinse. Never rub the wool, but okay to scvese it softly. If you rub it it will felt! The heat in the pot will make the wool softer and less itchy, but will make the wool slightly thinner. It is not neccesary to wash the garmets as often as for other wool, just hang it outside few hours & it will look like it had been washed ;) When wash the garmets use low heat.

Halcyon Yarns in Maine is wonderful too! Icelandic wool is not soft but it's really warm! It's meant to wear something underneath it. I love it! I've used the Lopi wool and will be using it every winter!

50 years ago, I found Lopi yarn at our local yarn store, owned and operated by a German lady, who helped me throughout my pattern selection, ordering and work. The sweater I made for my husband’s birthday was not only warm, but waterproof and he wore it for years! It is still in the cedar chest, but cold weather expeditions are well out of our lifestyle now. NOT cheap, but multigenerational if you choose classic styles.

I use Eucalan wool wash for anything I make with wool. It really softens rougher wool yarns and the lavender scent is amazing. Thanks for testing out these yarns, I've wondered about them for a long time!
@cintiapollock24864 жыл бұрын
micron per micron it is the warmest wool but yes deff not next to skin soft but I did order a lambs fleece and separated the guard hairs from the soft downy under fluff spun 2 pounds of it into 2 ply sport weight and made me a sweater that was nice to wear but I still needed a t shirt under but it was sooo pretty. To soften Icelandic yarn use argon oil hair conditioner in final rinse helps but the best way is to buy yarn blended with a softer man made fiber. Or to blend it with silks and other softer fibers with just 20-30% Icelandic so you still get the extra warmth : ) an spin it.
