But I am having difficulties today. Hopefully later today I will feel well enough to follow the instructions. Thank you for sharing. Usually I measure my head including my ears so the hat can sit around my head and ears. Also, I have an unusual head shape because I had brain surgery in 2010 and it shrunk parts and enlarged others where wires are lined through my head leading to a pacemaker battery pack in my chest. It's called a deep brain stimulator. I used to have a larger head now it's a little smaller but not too much. 😊 My hair covers everything up because I have a long Lions main that is like a cloak on my head. I wear it in a bun so I need to make my hat a bit larger than average. I have five feet of hair on my head. I can't afford haircuts right now. I'm hoping a hat will give me more support and be fashionable. I can add crochet flowers or something to my hat. This is inspiring the artist in me.

I have just finished watching your tutorial. Thank you for teaching and easy to follow step by step guide. Much appreciated. I will definitely be making this for myself. I would also like to make for a 4 & 8 yrs young Grandmunchkins. How many chains will I have to start off with? Your feedback would be appreciated, or if anybody in the commentary could help, it would also be appreciated. No need ascI went on your blog, which answered all my questions 😊

I like this hat, I may try it for the donations I do. Living in Canada I don’t have access to the yarn you used but I could probably use another worsted weight.

Thank you for sharing this pattern. It is quite easy and I love working it up; however, it will take me a lot longer than two hours to complete. I began working on it on January 21, 2025 and have worked off and on for two nights and as of today, January 23rd, I am only halfway finished. I am an advanced crocheter. So, don't expect to finish quickly unless you use a bulky yarn and a larger hook. Just being honest!
@HosannaDanaАй бұрын
Would it have the same look (or effect) if you crocheted in the "back loop only", as opposed to "front loop only"? (I'm more used to doing back loop only.) Thanks!
@YarnStashАй бұрын
That works too! The look is slightly different, but it will still give you a ribbed texture. 😊

i will try this next . i’m working on a hat where i single crochet in the back stitch #5 hook its super tight 😮 i’ve made a lot of mistakes but i just keep going.. now to close the top of the Hat 😢😢😢

I’m Scottish and in Scotland it’s pronounced Skeeeen from the old Scots many years ago so it depends on where you’re from so there is nothing wrong with saying it either way! 🧶👍🏼

@YarnStashАй бұрын
I think it might turn out too big if you use that size yarn- if you click the link in the video description you can see the free pattern on my site and there is an adult large that is bigger and should work. 😊

Hey! How long would it take a beginner to create this? :) thanks
@YarnStashАй бұрын
Once you get the stitches down, I would say somewhere between 3 to 5 hours maybe? It took me around 2 hours to complete the one in the video, and I'm not a super fast crocheter. If you're a total beginner, I'd also recommend putting a stitch marker in the first and last stitch of each row just to make sure you don't accidentally add or leave off stitches. When I first started crocheting, that always happened to me and the edges of my first blanket slowly slanted inward and it was a trapezoid by the end 😅. Good luck!

It's always the front loop right. I use cc and it's telling me third loop. That can't be.
@YarnStashАй бұрын
It is the 3rd loop for the half double crochet stitches, and the front loop for the single crochets and slip stitches. Hope that makes sense! The 3rd loop is the lower front loop that forms on a half double crochet. The written pattern is also over on my blog if you want to read it, too 😊

That “3rd” chain space is way too hard to find especially if you have dark yarn. I hope I can just use the pattern without making the ridges.
