If Askarov can get some KHL time and show his worth there then it won’t be long before he’s taken. CKA Saint Petersburg has lots of goaltending depth for Askarov to compete with

He won't be jumping around like Podkolzin last season, but I would like to see a game or two against a weaker KHL team maybe. Between the MHL & VHL though, he'll fully establish himself in one of those.

He'll need some time in the AHL to really adjust. I'd also think he'd need to change to a bit more of a hybrid player. Pure butterfly wont work in the NHL; NHL players can make do with really small holes to score.

Just like any goalie, it'll take some time. But his ceiling is so high, I don't think whoever drafts him will mind the wait :)

@@djsmith9947 what i mean is that there aren't that many pure butterfly goalies in the nhl since so many of the goalies have become little more hybrid, not completely tho, that's way more rarer than full butterfly goalie.

@@FWFarenholtz And along with Kevin Baal, Nikita Okhotyuk PK (without John Hynes telling him to beome a defensive D man ...story confirmed by Ken Daneyko...THAT is what killed PK last year, and Reily Walsh and we have a good start on D. However Shero made a mistake taking Ty Smith and not taking Alex Alexeyev from my Red Deer Rebels...already a star for the Bears and will be a Cap very soon

The Detroit Red Wings need to trade down, get another late 1st Rd or 2nd Rd, and take the goalie Askarov, then with their next two picks take D-men. Sounds crazy, but I don't think Drysdale or anyone is better than getting a generational goalie with 2 future D-men.

At this point, in Detroit, you DO NOT have to swing for the fences! You have millions of $ coming of the books in the next two years. YOU NEED A GOALIE! YOU NEED TWO MORE DMEN. It's time to trade this years 4th..for that teams 1st this year (a swap) and a future 2nd in 2021. Then you could sacrifice one of those high draft picks and another future high pick DUE TO THE FACT you have millions of $ freeing up soon. You can pay for the "lost" pick that you you spend to get this goalie.

I see what you're getting behind, I like the premise. The only thing holding them back IMO is that Askarov could be a wildcard in this draft. If Detroit trades down, there could easily be a team that snags Askarov before their new pick. Hell, it "may" not happen, but I remember the "theories" with Askarov being a Top 5 pick. It can very well still happen. I appreciate the comment :)
