Summary(Important Notes) of The Fiqh of Salah Episode 2: The Rulings of Athan & Iqamah The word “أزان” literally means “to call”. It occurs in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Ibrahim(AS) is told by Allah to proclaim people to Hajj using this word. Allah also indirectly mentions it in Surah Al-Ma’idah, He mentions another word for the call here - نودي and ناديتم. The word “إقامة” simply means “to establish”. These two terms are explicitly mentioned in the Sunnah of the Prophet(SAW). Ibn Ḳudāma begins the chapter by saying that these two terms are legislated only for the five prayers. This means that other Salah such as Salat Al-Janazah, Salat-Ul-Eid, etc. do not have them. What is the status of the Azaan? Within the Hambali Madhab, the predominant position is that the Azaan is Fard Kifaayah(فرض كفاية). This means that it must be done even if there are few Muslims in the city. The other three Madhabs differ and say that it is Sunnah, it is good to do it. Azan and Iqamah are for men and not for women. There is a statement(not Hadith) from many great Sahabas like Abu Hurairah and Tabi’un saying “There is no Iqamah or Azaan for women.” This is because the purpose of Azaan is to call other people, but when there is a group of women, they are going to be the only ones praying and no one will be coming. Azaan consists of 15 phrases, there is no repetition in it. The Iqamah has 11 phrases. Reference and Explanation: 1. Hadith 499, Sunan Abi Dawood mentions the famous Hadith which is narrated by Abdullah Ibn Zaid. This Hadith is called the Azaan of Bilal who gave the Azaan in this Hadith. The Hambali Madhab bases their Azaan on this Hadith. Here there are 15 phrases in Azaan and 11 phrases in Iqamah. 2. The authentic Hadith of Abdullah Ibn Abi-Mahdura has a slight difference in Azaan. The difference is that there is repetition here. This Hadith is taken by the Shafi and the Maliki. Here there are 19 phrases in the Azaan. 3. The Iqamah being 11 phrases is the standard among all Madhabs except Hanafi Madhab who believe that there are 17 phrases in the Iqamah. Who should be the Mu’azzin(The person who calls the Azaan)? The Azaan should be given by someone honest(his timing is trustable), has a strong and beautiful voice and who knows the timings of the prayers. The Mu’azzin occupies a position of trust and it isn’t the kind of trust that we have for the scholars and the reciters of the Qur’an. It is a different level of trust and so the person doesn’t have to be the most religious, he just needs to have some basic religiosity in his public life. Encouraged(Sunnah) things a Mu’zzin should do while giving Azan and Iqamah: 1. Stand. 2. With Wudu. 3. Stand in a high place. 4. Face the Qibla. 5. When he reaches (حَيَّ عَلَى الصَّلاَةِ وَحَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ), he should turn to the right and then the left without moving his feet. 6. Put fingers in his ears(more space for the lungs, focusing). 7. Give the Azaan slowly[the Prophet(SAW) told this to Bilal]. 8. Give the Iqamah fast[the Prophet(SAW) told this to Bilal]. 9. In the Azaan of Fajr, he should say “Prayer is better than sleep.” None of these are obligatory. This is agreed upon by all Madhabs. All of these are from the Hadith of Bilal as Bilal(RA) did all this and the Prophet(SAW) did not say anything thus approving it. It is not allowed to give the Azaan before the time of the prayer except for the prayer of Fajr. This is based on an authentic Hadith of the Prophet(SAW). This Hadith also shows that there should be two Azaans for Fajr - the first one before the time(Sunnah) and the second one on time(Wajib). It is encouraged(Sunnah) that the listeners of the Azaan repeat what the Mu’azzin says and say the prescribed Dua(supplication) after the Azaan. There are great rewards for doing this. There are many Hadiths describing the rewards that the Mu’azzin are given. Even when we are alone, it is a Sunnah to do Azaan or at least Iqamah before starting the prayer. This ends the entire summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

i live in a secular mixed-faiths country where religious calls (including azhan) are illegal by law in public spaces. But only 1 mosque in the entire country is allowed to give azhan 5 times a day all year round. This is a rare exception granted by the governmeng cos that mosque was a gift by 🇸🇦

I like to know about adhan clocks like the 1 I have in my house or Adhan recording played on tv during the time of certain prayer (some islamic channels do this like islam channel in the uk if you know) are they allowed to be used as adhan??

@@shahmir2492 that doesn't make sense we can't use that as adhan ( considering masjids like the uk you don't hear the adhan outside) they aren't recordings played randomly you know this is why I wanted more clarification

@@maganhassan2627 As someone who had a similar question, I feel like the sheikh was extremely clear. If it's not live, it doesn't count as a real adhan. If the adhan you are referring to was pre-recorded, then it's not an adhan, because it is no longer an act of worship, because no one is performing it with an intention to perform adhan in the moment. That prerecorded adhan is only useful for informing you of prayer timings but any sound effect, even a beep, could have done that same job. It's a different story if the adhan is being broadcast live on TV or something like that, because that is being performed with an intention to do adhan and reap rewards. It totally makes sense to me that clicking some buttons should never be allowed to equal a religious ritual. For me, as someone who watches certain sports, the energy of a live sport event is always more than a prerecorded one, so it is very easy for me to wrap my head around this idea of live being superior to prerecorded. Different people might have different experiences, but it really makes a lot of sense to me.

@Abdulkarim Elnaas well I think the adhan clocks are useful to tell me the time of prayers but I can understand they're not the live adhan so I won't say after it & make dua afterwards except if it's live adhan 🤷‍♂️ Allah knows best

I have a question, pardon my lack of knowledge, but why do we have madhabs and why are they different from each other.
@ru6886
@ru6886 2 жыл бұрын
We always want to act according to the sunnah but sometimes ahadith can be interpreted in multiple ways. Madhahib all use the sunnah to give their opinions on certain matters. When we come across an issue in our own lives where we want to know the ruling on something, we can look to the madhahib for the common opinions and students of knowledge can use this and their own knowledge & research to come to a conclusion. The layman however should go to a student of knowledge or scholar whom he trusts who will give an appropriate fatwah because if the layman looks at the opinions of the madhahib himself, he may be inclined to follow his desires rather than what he actually believes to be the truth. If he can’t find a scholar then he can follow the madhab that the community follow. For example if I had an issue and couldn’t easily get access to a scholar or imam, I may research what the hanafi opinion is and follow this as the community I’m in follows hanafi fiqh. I hope that helps and if I made a mistake, I hope someone corrects me

I perceive Your statement "we don't require hadith for this" while discussing that Muazin should be ameen, is wrong we need hadith to guide every matter of religion
