24:55 I think it only makes logical sense that monotheists came first. Polytheistic gods are an amalgamation of multiple ideas. *For example:* If you want to create “the Sun God” - you first have to believe in concept of the Sun ☀️ and then you have to believe in the One God. Then, you fuse the ideas and make a lesser deity. *For example:* If you want to believe in a “Goddess” - you first have to take the concept of the One God, and then fuse that with the idea of a woman 👩 .

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 34. The Story of Nuh - Part 2 Part - 2. Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-2 of the summary. Part 1 is commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comment is also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... How to reconcile the names of idols of people of Nuh(AS) being the same as the Arabian idols at the time of Islam? Wadd was worshipped by the Banu Kalb in the pre-Islam era. He was the national God of the Minaeans in the South Arabia. He had the symbol of snake associated with him. His idol was located in Dumat al-Jandal. The Prophet(SAW) sent Khalid ibn Al-Walid to destroy it. Suwa’ was destroyed by ‘Amr ibn Al-’Aas. Yaguth, Ya’uq, and Nasr were also found in other places. Ibn Abbas said, “The idols of the people of Nuh(AS) was then adopted by the Arabs. And so, Wadd was worshipped by Kalb, Suwāʿ by Hudhail, Yaghūth by Murād, Yaʿūq by Hamadān and Nasr by the Yemeni tribe of Ḥimyar.” There is archaeological evidence for this and it is well-known that the Arabs worshipped these in the pre-Islamic era. This poses a slight problem. When Allah sent the flood, clearly the people of Nuh(AS) and their idols were destroyed. And clearly, everybody post-flood is a monothiest. Everybody is a Muslim. Nuh(AS) is the father of every single civilisation post-flood. Many Millenia go by. And yet we find that the Arabs had the exact same names of the idols that the people of Nuh(AS) had. How did the Arabs get the exact same names when no traces of idols or idolaters were left? Imam Fakhr-ud-Deen Ar-Razi raises this question and leaves us pondering. This has been explained in 3 main ways - 1. Ibn ‘Ashur says, “Some people have said that when Allah mentions, in Surah Nuh, the story of Nuh(AS) and then He says in the middle of it - They said: “Do not abandon your deities; do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, nor Yauq, nor Nasr.” (Surah Nuh, Ayah 23) - this Ayah refers to Quraysh speaking and not the people of Nuh(AS). But this is a bit far-fetched.” Side-note: The fact that they were trying to solve the problem shows that this same question has come up in the minds of the Quranic interpreters. 2. Ibn ‘Ashur continues saying, “In my opinion, the idols would have been destroyed in the flood. However the descendants of Nuh(AS) were warning the children about the Gods pre-flood. And so the names - Wadd, Suwa’, Yaguth, Ya’uq, and Nasr - remained amongst the children of Nuh(AS) as the names of false idols and gods. And they were warned constantly about these idols and therefore, the names trickled down. Then when ‘Amr ibn Luhayy** reintroduces idolatry to the Arabs, he took the names that remained and reintroduced the names.” 3. Another possibility is that we are not obliged to have the exact same names for the idols at the time of Nuh(AS). When Allah mentions the names of idols, He is using the names of the Arabian idols but the concept of idolatry is the same. The idea remains the same even if the names are different. **Footnote: ‘Amr ibn Luhayy is mentioned in the Hadith as the man who introduced idol-worship in the Arabs. He brought back Al-Lat from the Roman civilisation and instituted that idol in front of the Kaaba. Was the flood global? We, as Muslims, do not have to believe in the global flood. We do not have to believe all animals and creatures were destroyed on Earth. The notion of a flood destroying the whole mankind on Earth is from Bible. It is also interesting to note that there has been a notion of a great flood destroying the whole Earth in almost every single civilisation, even the ones excluded from the mainlands. This has caused people to go down two routes - skepticism or faith and belief. This ends the entire summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

The story of Nuh is my favorite in the Quran along with the story of Adam. These two stories probably fascinate me the most. I have thought long about them. In popular culture, when people talk about Nuh, they place it a few thousand years ago because of what's in the Bible. As far as I know, there is nothing in the Quran and in the Sunnah which would force us to make the same conclusion. The most obvious explanation for me is that humanity was limited to some geographical area in the time frame of Nuh. Then the flood comes (a local event), everybody except Nuh's people is drowned. The ship lands, probably in Africa, then humanity spread from there to all continents. This is how all civilizations end up having the "myth" of the flood. When did Nuh live? - we will never know for sure. Interestingly, according to DNA research, the earliest common ancestor of all living men lived about 270,000 years ago. Search for "Y-chromosomal Adam" on Wikipedia. If we accept that this is Nuh (being the second Adam), then you end up very long back in time - close to the time when we find the earliest remains of Homo sapiens.

If jinn-kind was not affected by the flood it was well and possible they knew about the civilisation of Nuh and so they would also know about the idols of the time as well so it could have easily been passed on to the pre-islamic Arabs who are well aware of the jinns
@yellowadil Жыл бұрын
There is also the possibility that the "Pre-Islamic" people simply borrowed the names of the idols from the story of Noah and attached their own meanings to them.

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 34. The Story of Nuh - Part 2 Part-1 Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-1 of the summary. Part-2 is commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comment is also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... When did Nuh(AS) live? We do not have any archeological evidence and there is no timeline mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah so we do not know for sure. We know for sure scientifically that human beings have lived on Earth for more than 150,000 years. The recorded(written) history of mankind only goes back to 3000-4000 years. Prior to that, there is just signs of mankind which are being discovered here and there. We don’t have a shred of evidence about factual information about dynasties and more from the ancient history(more than 5000 years ago). From the theological point of view, we know for certain that Nuh(AS) was the first رسول (Messenger) sent on Earth to mankind. So he(AS) was the very first person who was sent to a nation that rejected him(AS) and did not believe in Allah and him(AS). People of Nuh(AS) were the first rejectors and the first nation/civilisation that Allah destroyed. So we believe that Nuh(AS) lived very early on in human history. The difference between a Messenger and a Prophet (نَبِي) is that a Messenger is initially rejected and will have to prove himself to the audience whereas a Prophet is sent to a nation who accepts him and might even be expecting him to come. Adam(AS) was the first Prophet and Nuh(AS) was the first Messenger. When Allah wants to set a timeline, the Qur’an inevitably begins with Nuh(AS) which clearly indicates how early on he(AS) was alive. His people rejected him(AS) and so he(AS) is the first Messenger. Evidence for this: 1. Indeed We sent forth Noah and Abraham and established in their line Prophecy and the Book. (Surah Al-Hadid, Ayah 26) So Allah clearly mentions that every Prophet and Messenger that came after Nuh(AS) is from Nuh(AS)’s progeny. And every Prophet and Messenger that came after Ibrahim(AS) is from both Nuh(AS)’s and Ibrahim(AS)’s progeny. 2. In Surah An-Nisa, Ayah 163, Allah mentions a long list of Prophets and starting that list is Nuh(AS) and says - إِنَّآ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ كَمَآ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَىٰ نُوحٖ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦۚ Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. 3. From the Hadith, the Prophet(SAW) said, “Every single Prophet since the time of Nuh has warned his people against Dajjal.” 4. From the famous Hadith in Sahih Bukhari, the people will go to Nuh(AS) and say to him(AS), “O Nuh, you are the first Messenger Allah sent.” The Qur’an and Sunnah indicate very clearly that Nuh(AS) is the first Messenger on Earth. It can also be posited that Nuh(AS) is the first Prophet on Earth too. Adam(AS) is an exception, he(AS) came down as a Prophet and this situation is unique. Nuh(AS) can be said to be the first Prophet on Earth through an Angel. Idris(AS) is said to be between Adam(AS) and Nuh(AS) but the reason Muslim scholars say this is Biblical. There is no reason for Muslims to place Idris(AS) before Nuh(AS). Perhaps the Qur’an, in Surah Maryam, seems to suggest that Idris(AS) is actually from the progeny of Nuh(AS). In this case, Nuh(AS) would be the first Prophet and Messenger on Earth (through an Angel). It is not categorically said, but it is possibility. There is no controversy over the fact that Nuh(AS) was sent to an idolatry nation. This means that idolatry was introduced sometime between Adam(AS) and Nuh(AS). The first human beings were monotheists. The Qur’an is very clear on this - Surah Yunus, Ayah 19. And this is logically approved. Therefore, Nuh(AS) was sent because monotheism was corrupted. The concept that monotheism was first and then polytheism came is a concept in our Islamic theology. This is contrary to the modern anthropologists and archeologists who believe that monotheism was later constructed. The difference between them and us is that they don’t believe in our books. The Qur’an is explicitly clear that monotheism predates polythiesm. The people of Nuh(AS) were the first nation amongst whom idolatry became completely prevalent and nobody remained upon تَوْحيد (Oneness of God). From what it appears in the Qur’an is that monothiesm was dominant at first, then it split and became into monotheism and polytheism and then, polytheism slowly took over and monotheism disappeared. This is when Allah sent Nuh(AS). How many generations between Adam(AS) and Nuh(AS)? The famous but weak narration in Sahih Ibn Hibban where the Prophet(SAW) was asked how many generations were between Adam(AS) and Nuh(AS). It is reported that the Prophet(SAW) allegedly said “10 generations”. Ibn Abbas also said a statement - Between Adam(AS) and Nuh(AS) were 10 generations, all of them upon تَوْحيد (Oneness of God). We find this notion of 10 generations to be in the Old Testament. Ibn Katheer and other scholars says “If Nuh(AS) lived 950 years, then all people in his generation must have lived for 950 years. And the people in the previous generations must have lived for a longer time.” This is plausible. The bottom line is that it doesn’t destroy anything in our theology. If the distance between them was 10 generations or more or less, it is not problematic and there is no way to know the correct stance. It is all unknown to us. One doesn’t have to believe in the statements of the Sahaba. All we need to believe in is that Nuh(AS) lived for 950 years as that is mentioned in the Qur’an. How did idolatry begin in mankind? From the sayings of Sahaba, especially Ibn Abbas, their opinion is that idolatry began in the people of Nuh(AS) by venerating righteous people. They had a lot of Gods but 5 were the most important Gods. Allah mentions the names of idols of people of Nuh(AS) in Surah Nuh - Wadd, Suwa’, Yaguth, Ya’uq, and Nasr. The 5 were names of righteous people. After they died, people built images to venerate them. After a while, they started associating and worshipping them. This does make sense. There is nothing wrong with narrating this, we can believe it or not. The first idols were created as reminders of a person’s piety and over time, people forgot their original purpose and began worshipping the idols. This ends Part-1 of the summary. Part-2 is in a different comment. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Regarding the names of the false Gods and the explanations. #1 is clearly the weakest because the ayah really makes it look like it's partnl of Nuh's dua which starts from ayah 21 and ends with ayah 24, the names are mentioned in 23. Another explanation I've heard regarding this.. Humanity was wiped out but the devils (as far as we know) weren't. They could have reintroduced these names

If you believe the Flood was universal, then Razi’s problem stands. If you believe it’s localised (albeit on a grand scale), then it’s easy to posit those who worshipped those named gods, but did not encounter the message of Tawhid, existed elsewhere.

As salam wa alaykum Shaykh. I recently learned that there was a period in Earth’s history where is rained for two million years and did in fact cause a global flood. However this period in time was estimated to be around 256 millions years right before another mass extinction from a meteor during the time of dinosaurs. Is there any theological issue in believing that Nuh lived during this time? I know no archeological evidence we have shows humans lived during that time but who knows what Allah had hidden from us.
@mbarkbiba2 жыл бұрын
Imo it would make much more sense if it was related to a past ice age ,not the last one because we know humans existed before and after the last ice age,and after every ice age the earth temperature rises and the ice that covers (every ice age about half of the globe is frozen) and something like a flood happens
@Sam-su9rq10 ай бұрын
Coz followers of nuh a.s that were saved from flood and were on ship knew the names of idols. Some of them might have been misguided by satan later and they started worshipping those idols again... and this tranferred through generations. Not a big deal.

Dear Shekh on your lecture at 27min you mentioned that about the generation gap and try to not explaine not to contradict with the archaological evidence for human age but in my humble opinion "there were many ADEMs before our Adem" because Allah said Am going to Create a Khelifa(successor). So why Allah use a word Khalifa if there were no many ADEMs before our ADEM. the evidence was " why the Angles said to Allah, will you place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood" How did they Know ?? According to their classification of religion there has never existed a monotheistic religion even today. We Muslims believe in other unseen beings besides the creator god that would be considered "God's" according to them.
