What is that big round cylinder on top of the camera? Is that some type of counterweight?

Hi, The top serves as a counterweight, but there's probably more at work up there. We didn't get into the details since our products are not located in the top, but we believe the top section houses a gyroscope that keeps the unit level despite swinging movement. The top also contains some of the electronics that tilt/spin the camera and output the video. - Jeff Watter, Yasawa Marketing Communications Specialist

@@YaskawaAmericaOne more question. Someone asked this on a different sky cam video but there wasn’t a reply. Next to the SkyCam pilots in the booth is a big red button. I’m assuming that it’s an emergency return “home” button in case the camera starts acting wonky. If the operator presses the button, the camera will move off the field and to a previously determined safe location. Can you confirm if that’s the case. You can see the button around 2:50 on this video.

which exact Servo Motors and SERVOPACK amplifiers models do You use in skycams?

Thanks for your question. Specific model number data on servos and amps is information that the Skycam people would prefer to keep proprietary, but we can say that Skycam units use standard Sigma-5 rotary servomotors and SERVOPACK amplifiers. When there's a break in their sports action, they tell us they're hoping to upgrade to the extra performance and superior lightness of Yaskawa's latest Sigma-7 systems.
