This is awesome! When I lived in Miami I would hear this style coming out of the local rehearsal rooms. That chorus sound brings me back.

Seeing this really makes me happy. I’m an American born Dominican so I always grew up around bachata and merengue but always gravitated more towards American music. Now that I’m older, I want to get in touch with my roots and maybe play some of these tunes for the family one day.

I recently moved back to the states after living in the DR for 3 years. Miss the whole vibe of the country. I had a son while I was there so I definitely want him to have a strong foundation rooted in both sides. Dominican music like bachata and merengue as well as African American music like delta blues, jazz and rock n roll.its fun diving into Dominican music and history.

Love these styles which are literally foreign to me as a Texas born metal guitar player so having fun learning. Love the DR so it takes me back there when I hear it. Thanks for the video!

I had the same type of experience where I wouldn't even think of playing "popular" or roots music from my country until I grew up and started expanding my playing and as well as my ears (something that I think happens to every musician in every country and culture), thats when I felt connected to the music that was playing Yasser, just hearing that playing coming from that strat tone and the combinations of latin (especially afrodominican) and hard modern stuff I just felt enamored, thats when I started going back and now thats one of the genres I play the most and what connects me the most to my roots, Yasser, mis respetos!

Joan Soriano is one of my favorite 2nd wave bachateros- he bridges the gap between the shared heritage of Dominican bachata and bachata hatienne. iASO records is making sure that island artists are paid fairly for their work - and is working to train the next generation of bachata musicians with their Bachata Academy.
