Make moar stuff! The biggest difference between your stuff and other video game cover-ists is your attention to detail. No fancy additions, it's not "orchestrated" or remixed. It's as close as you can get to the originals but with real instruments. Evoking the same emotions as the OG. As a remixer and multi instrumentalist I really appreciate what you do because it's something I can't do. You're like a good baker, not leaving any ingredients out and pulling that shit out of the oven at exactly the right time. Bravo, man.
@FDJUwe8 жыл бұрын
exactly! There is no need to make it different than the originals, people don't understand that the only flaw of the originals is the "instrument" that they were played on (snes engine). Making it real without additions is the best!
@verinenpihvi7 жыл бұрын
i totally agree. i've noticed many musicians like to add their own solo parts and usually it just strays away from the original song too much, which is a shame because many times the song would have been great without the extra bits.

You make it sound like he's just coloring by numbers when there is a lot more to it. There is a lot of emotion and feeling going on. If you listen to the songs side by side, you can pick out a lot of differences, but he does such a good job of distilling the essence of the original piece that you don't notice that they are different. The original has a much more, I would say MIddle Eastern vibe, with what sounds like a sitar.

My man, I’m THRILLED to have just discovered this cover and channel. Please understand the significance to me. So many fans have been digging Corridors of Time since its release in 1995. Why does Mitsuda’s original strike us as gorgeous, a favorite for so many? He not only composed brilliant pieces for Chrono Trigger but proved how much they could move an audience even through the constraints of 16-bit arrangement. And this song might have been his most effective in its scene. The player, lost in time, trudges through a snowy wasteland before stumbling upon a shocking contrast: a cloud kingdom in its magic-powered Golden Age. The sounds of tabla, sitar, and chorus give exotic hints of East Asia. But the scene is pure fantasy, so the combination feels something like Atlantis. And the lively yet melancholic tune foreshadows the kingdom’s story you’re about to discover. Corridors of Time gave me chills then and has since been one of my favorite pieces, VGM or otherwise. At age 9 I used a 28.8 dial-up modem to download an emulator, then left Chrono Trigger running idle so Corridors could be background music. I pretended my bedroom was another corner of Enhasa. Sounds silly to an outsider, but you must understand what an impression these songs left on us who grew up with them. For 25 years I've played the ripped sound file while searching for covers. It’s so hard to find one with rich instrumentation but still capturing the elegance. Every interpretation makes compromises. Minimalist solo pieces like Zohar’s on piano are certainly beautiful, even more elegantly simple in their own way. But they can’t round out the “soundscape” and end up repetitive if trying to include all the “voices” in Corridors. Orchestrations Like Dan Goodale’s “Passage Through Zeal” can be grand and triumphant, exploring another side of the Zeal story, but they completely alter the mood of the original. The electronic covers are most prevalent and often capture the chill and mystic vibe, but that’s precisely the format I’m trying to get away from. What would the real Zeal sound like? The closest I'd found so far was Mathew Valente's, which served as my study music through college, but it still didn't feel quite right. And then I stumble on your interpretation, somehow five years late to the party. Such a warm tone, such unique and detailed instrumentation - it’s clear you knew the sound you wanted and would craft it by any means necessary. A melodica for chorus, banjo in place of sitar, toy piano as glockenspiel. And so many layers of percussion to shame any other rendition out there: brilliantly mimicking the tabla, subtly implementing the shaker and tambourine. You truly made it your own with the woodwinds (tone perfectly matching the original), bass slide, and repeating phrases just because we don’t want to leave this part yet, but not sounding tedious or stalled. You perfectly maintained the balance between intricacy and building anticipation yet not ruining the peaceful chill. Every part you play knows its place, complements rather than overwhelms the others. Nothing repetitive, plenty innovative. This was a lovingly crafted and brilliantly executed piece. Clearly I’ve thought about Corridors more than anyone should admit publicly. Screw it. This is 10/10, pure gold. Thank you!
@quetzalcoatl-pl2 жыл бұрын
Abso-f*-lutely. This is the only cover that almost makes me forget how the original piece sounded like (I'm pretty sure that's kzbin.info/www/bejne/eInSZHeoja2Mbtk) - that hard bell tunes have something that immediately grab me and throw out into outer space. Like someone pulled a plug and detached me from reality for a fraction of second. Not many can do that. I just checked a few just to make sure :) And there's a sure-hit impact, but not like with CorridorsOfTime. And here goes the magic thing. The tune of those bell's that most of the covers basically lack, or overdo, or have it too polished and not rough enough - here it's on guitar. And every single time I listen to this version, I wonder, how it's possible this fits. It's not bell. It's not metallic. It's not clang-tastic. It's not rough with snes chip and all. BUT IT FITS SO DAMN WELL. I sometimes listen side-by-side this version and the original one, just to hear and feel the difference, and for some moments, it feels like PFF's version is actually better. But it quickly passes. Both are masterpieces in their own league. PFF's version is as captivating as the original one, it's so hard to pause or stop once playing, but in a different way. It doesn't leave me ripped off from reality and thrown into different world of sound, but instead pulls me in as if promising to tell a story I knew and always longed to hear again. Both are heavily melancholic, but this nuance make a huge difference like.. like hearing cool Blumenkranz from KillLaKill when you didn't know the lyrics, and after you got their intended very-uncool meaning (just the other way around, here PFF's one is the nice one, and original is the harsh one). I loved Corridors of Time immediately on first hearing, but now I know I wouldn't love it this much if I didn't hear PFF's version. Now I have two to love, and they are one.

I have to say Chrono Trigger was and still is my absolute favorite Square RPG simply for the replay factor, the story felt more intertwined with the characters and it personally was an escape from hard times as a kid. FF6 was no doubt just as amazing but Chrono Trigger has always pulled me in from the character design (Toriyama!!!!), the way the story developed, having the option to beat the game with or without Crono and it's soundtrack was unforgettably memorable. Uematsu and Mitsuda did an amazing job, having Sakaguchi apart of this dream team just made CT just perfect!!

The man with the best username in the world. The man with some of the best arrangements in the world. The man who should be a thousand times more popular than he is now. Seriously, I just found your channel about 15 minutes ago and I love it. You've got quite some talent with covers like these. Usually people stick to one instrument, but you master them all. Incredible music, man.

It's obvious you've put a lot of work here - recording, combining, editing. Amazing job! You deserve much more audience.
