it really depends on your champ, tp will be better at something like yorick or sion, splitpushers roaming the map a lot, a bruiser like yasuo might be better having ignite

I think it's just kind of a meme. Toplaners usually have low vision score because they really only have one brush to ward and most of the time there's very little activity around their lane except for the occasional gank.
