So after using my weebil s in trajectory mode for a few hours, I think the motion issues you're having is because of the gimbal, not the slider. The moves just aren't repeatable, if you do the same move twice in a row, they're never exactly the same making visual effects very hard. I wonder how the Ronin fares.

Love your review as always. Great breakdown. You bumped up the noise 12db... my question is, is this useable for interviews. I keep seeing conflicting reviews in regard to that. You talked about it but only a little bit. Your input would be MUCH appreciated. I need to find an affordable motorized slider for interviews soon! :)
@TLDR_filmmaker2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey HappyTown Studios! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! When it comes to using servo sliders vs brushless motor sliders like this one I reviewed: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paO1iGeBaceGhJo With Servo motors, hopefully you have a nice telephoto lens on the camera so that you can place the motor further away from the speaker. Then it comes down to if you are using a shotgun mic boomed over the speaker or if you are using a lavalier mic. The shotgun mic is more desired as it will block out sounds around the microphone (a decent amount). If you are using a lavalier mic then you will hope that the speaker speaks loudly so that your gain staging is lower to compensate for their voice. By doing so, when they stop talking, the gain staging is so low that its not going to put up the Wrrrr of the Servo Slider. While that is one part of the equation, the other part is your clients expectations based on who you are filming. Some of the interviewee might find the servo motor sound bothersome during them listening to you and giving their answers. From there you gotta get crafty. For me I would have that slider going the entire time during setup so that the interview person gets used to the sound being there as you're guiding them through whats going on and such. Those are my thoughts on the matter. Worst case scenario you can purchase a program called izotope RX and learn how to read an audio waveform where you can literally "see" the servo motor sound show up and erase it for the final audio mix. Hope all this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

@@TLDR_filmmaker Just when I thought I couldn’t love your channel more. Thank you so much for taking the time to dive in like this. This really helps point me in the right direction in so many ways! I honestly always assumed my lavs were picking up the best sound because they are closest to my subject. Now I see the value in shotguns so much more. I have a Rode VideoMic NTG Hybrid Analog/USB Camera-Mount Shotgun Mic, but been looking into an upgrade. Curtis Judd has a great breakdown of mics that has steered me in a good direction, but I see that you have a bunch of videos on shotguns. Gonna dive into yours but any in particular you recommend I should look at? As for sliders, I dug your ifootage video. I had seen it and actually was considering that slider. Thanks for breaking down the servo vs brushless motors. I get it more now and would love to go brushless but haven’t found anything reasonably priced that can handle my camera/lens combo weight. I usually fall close to 7 pounds. The ifootage slider seems great but its capacity is that which worries me. Any other you recommend that are brushless? The quietest servo I can seem to find is the YC onion hot dog. Again your advice is much welcome. Thank you and hope you’re having a great holiday :).

Great video, per usual! Question: I'm looking to include a motorized slider to level up the production of my yoga KZbin videos to capture the details of hand placement, side angles, and other b-roll footage. Would you be so kind as to suggest a good motorized option for a solo content creator given my circumstances?
@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Chocolate Twist Yoga! This slider is probably the ones thats going to give you the longest dynamic movement given is price point and ability to "pan" on its own depending on how you adjust the two knobs on the side. The gimbal attachment on top is not recommended by me at this time due to the shakiness and inconsistency. There are other motorized sliders that I reviewed that I saw you also commented on. There is actually one I'm currently reviewing right now thats very nice but also very expensive and doesn't travel as far as this one. I feel for yoga since you're camera is further back you'd want the longest travel possible to get the effect. If you have this slider on the ground, it will work quite well, if you need it off the ground, make sure you purchase some additional light stands to screw into the ends of the slider instead of the center so that you have the most solid platform for the slider so that it doesnt tip and lean when the slider reaches one side or the other. Hope this helps!

Would be nice to see a video in comparing the parallax spread/width between the shortest slide and the longest slide - comparing (between time it takes to get to each end) and seeing the difference in the spread/speed of panoramic option. Of course we are thinking of the possibilities if the shorter slide gets to point a/b faster, then you might have to slow down the video in post if not on the motor - well depending on what you want to do. A longer slide takes longer to get to the most farthest points whether parallax or panoramic. For me, I think the longer slide is a better choice in the long run because outside of the fact that there is a larger footprint when traveling, you can get longer shots to work with in post, the manual option is sooo smooth.. I have to get my steady hand to work... The slide actually feels really good using it in manual mode. Also, the slight difference in the price of the 80cm/120cm/100cm it made more sense to invest in the longer one. I actually like (YC) build quality like 400% more than the other brand I bought, same length but weight capacity maybe less than 35% of YC Onions weight capacity and the gimbal option totally killed the other brand but let's just say I spent round-about $100 more and got double the weight capacity, a gimbal option, smooth flowing built track and I may not have to get a jib so there's a savings I can appreciate plus more ways to be creative. If I decide to go more expensive than this, I'd be shooting professional... and even when that happens, I don't think I would really need to upgrade for quite some time if I am keeping my projects small enough. Thanks for the insight. Now If I can just balance my GH5 and my 10-25mm Leica on the WeeBill Lab without a counterweight baseplate we will be cooking with gas. One last thought.. I would consider making some kind of housing made of some kind of sound proofing to wrap around the motor to fight the buzzing.. Its actually quite musical if you go up and down on the speed while its moving... it's actually tuned to a pitch that can be recorded... Ahhhh an idea for all of you video nerds out there. #letsgo
@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Melodeus Forever! In terms of comparing the width to parallax ratio, if you are using a longer slider and only doing a short slide, your parallax won't be as drastic. If you had short slider doing the same amount of slide, you will have more parallax movement. This is simply because of the bar having to be a steeper angle the shorter your overall slider is. This is of course dependent too on what focal length you are using to get that parallax shot. If you are on a wider angle, the shorter slider would do better as you make your way from the ends of the slider. If you can only do a short slide on a longer slider you will want to up the focal length to try and get some sort of parallax going, however this will look drastically different from the short slider version simply because of the focal length composition. As for motor speeds with these budget systems, I think we're more or less capped at a where we can go before going into more professional setups that can slide the slider much faster. Mainly its the servo motor they are using and the voltages it can handle. We'd need a different motor with a higher voltage threshold to get it to go faster and still contain a good amount of torque. Aw man you got a great GH5 setup there, I was a GH5 + Sigma 18-35 user. that new Leica 25-50 is going to really round out that MFT kit. For me I have since moved to Sony and can't wait for the new tamron 35-150 f/2 - f/2.8, that focal length is literally my entire narrative use range. I'll finally have my one lens to do it all!

One thing I noticed on your video that the hotdog slider was bouncing up and down on the tripod based on the centre point. Can you dual-mount the slider on two stands/tripods?
@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Neil! I did tweak the settings in the Weebill, no dice unfortunately. I think the coding might be too basic with how it talks to the Gimbal. The interesting thing is that the gimbals speed and response was different depending if you were going from A-B vs B-A. Not sure why. Yup, the slider has a host of 1/4 and 3/8 mounting points for people us either use two stands or some slider tripod support arms. I feel for this price those support arms should be included like the Zeapon M800.

@TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Mohd E! This depends on the types of shots you want. If you need Parallax slides. The YC onion with its parallax rod will make it easier to achieve those types of shots. I would not use the Gimbal method as it is not perfect. There is the ifootage shark nano that is more expensive, but its motors are not as powerful as they are brushless for silent operation, because of this motor it cannot handle heavier camera setups. Then there are sliders like the Rhino, Syrp, Edelkron, they are much more expensive, the Syrp and Rhino are the ones I'd like to get in the future. I like their design and they seem more sturdy. In the end its going to depend on what type of shots you need, not all sliders are going to perform the same in different types of shots.

Hey hey Steve! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I think the gimbal does in timelapse mode, which now makes sense how the YC onion is talking to the gimbal. @TLDR_filmmaker3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey TECO! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Aw man, that stinks it's not readily usable with the Crane 3 Lab. This is most likely a software thing on YC Onions end. I'm not sure how big their firwmare department it, but it's mainly up to them to incorporate the coding to work with their app. I say this because all these gimbals have smartapp protocols, so essentially I think DJI and Ronin gave YC Onion the protocol coding so that their app can recognize a gimbal and use it. just bought a hotdog v3 and bun to use with my Crane 3 Lab, and i'm a little disappointed to be honest. The gimbal and slider do NOT sync up, so you program in your waypoints and by the time the slider gets to even the first waypoint, the subject/object is not in the part of the frame that you want it to be. I'm not saying it's completely useless, but it's not good. You can't use it to shoot products expecting professional results. If you want to dolly across to a subject and the pan as you go by, that's not happening. You just dont know when it's going to start the pan. So, you have to do it by hand. If you're going to do it by hand then you're better off buying a cheaper motorised slider. I suppose it would be alright doing landscapes and stuff, but as for in studio. I wouldn't buy one. Also as a side note. I didn't receive a spare belt and thread adapter with mine. The slider comes with a 3/8 thread on it so you can't mount a dslr directly onto it, or even a gimbal, you need a 1/4. Many of the video's you see state that the adapter comes with the slider along with a spare band for the motor, it doesn't. So to buy an adapter you can get a cheap one off amazon for $12/$10, but, once it's tight the camera might not point in the correct direction. To buy an adjustable adapter you're talking an extra £35/$40 for the very cheapest and about £100/$120 for a good one. Just be aware of this. Can I recommend it? Not without a firmware update fixing the sync issue. But my guess it isn't going to be fixed. When the slider came out 2 years ago this issue was highlighted. A firmware update was mentioned as a solution, but it's never happened. If it's not been fixed by now, they aint fixing it. Basically, this is good as a toy or a hobby. The other problem I've found is that if you create a waypoint and then move the slider and create a second, it doesnt slowly move to the second point. It will hit the first point and stay on it until until it moves to the second point, and then jump to that. It would be better if it slowly went form point to poin. That way you can "track" a subject. There needs to be 2 video modes, a point select, and a drag mode. What you actually can do is create a first point and then use the joystick on the gimbal to track the object, as the app records what you do with the gimbal between setting a and b. The problem with that is this, if ive already completed the move by hand, what do i need the app for? The app really is limited in this regards. Be aware of the limitations before you buy one.

Hey hey Awesome_slyda! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! @@TLDR_filmmaker and if for ronin rs2 it is cheaper and less, then for ronin s you still have to use another small capacity battery. this is killing me.

Hey hey Mr. Balagan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Hmm, I'm pretty sure my sample came with a battery, but I don't think its part of the official packaging. It was probably tossed in by the selling vendor as a bundle of sorts. For the time being, I don't quite have the room for this slider in my setup as it's quite long. If I have a more permanent large space I would probably just leave this slider on two light stands facing my b-roll table and use the Paralax bar for super quick standard B-roll product shots. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
