awesome info mate thanks. I just went and bought my YC Onion 31 inch slider as it was on special. it works great for what I need it for despite it sometimes being a bit glitchy!

Thanks for posting this video. I've been considering purchasing a YC onion Hot Dog for a while. I waited for the Hot Dog S(econd) E(edition) to be released, but haven't purchased one yet. Do you have any insight about the SE version of this slider? The specs are a tiny bit underwhelming, when compared to the Hot Dog 3.0, but it SEEMS to tick all of the important boxes. Either way, I'd be getting access to my gimbal and the nice engineering of the slider bar and 4 wheels with bearings. And yes, Kangaroo island is a gorgeous spot. It's like a little piece of Tassie. Cheers!

No, I don't know much about the SE, but I though it looked pretty good.

That is so cool! Are you using the 11-22mm lens for those shots, or the 16mm?
@markwiemels2 жыл бұрын
It’s a mix of Fuji footage and Canon, had both on the trip, mostly used the 11-22mm on the Canon and the 10-24mm on the Fuji. I may have used some other lenses in a few shots.

great video! What lens are you using on your Canon m50?
@markwiemels2 жыл бұрын
There is a mix of Fuji and canon footage in here. The canon footage is 11-22mm.

Btw, the lens on the camera for studio demo is the sigma 16mm, but that’s not the lens I used for most of the shots, other than the sunset Timelapse, which I think was the sigma.

Great video. How accurate is the motor for repeating moves several times exactly the same way (time and movement) to be used for vfx shots where I need to shoot the same shot various times and then composite them together.

That is a great question, but I have not tested this, so I really couldn’t say. It seems pretty consistent, but I really don’t know for sure.

Yes, there was a foam insert in the bag.

Bro I wanna know which among canon and viltrox adapter ef to ef-m is worth purchasing. The viltrox is about less than half of the canon's. Which one do you use?why? Which one you recommend? And overall is it worth buying viltrox for cheap or should I stretch my budget? Durability is also a question! I hope you answer all my questions. LOVE FROM INDIA ❤️
@markwiemels2 жыл бұрын
Viltrox is just as good, works the same.
@shash16432 жыл бұрын
@@markwiemels some people say that metal part is too shiny compared to canon's and do it introduces flare when shot at certain angles. Also some reviews say viltrox adapter leaks light !

You should showcase some more details about using it with a gimbal. I like this slider but I can see it's not as easy out of the box ready and not just the batteries. I see you need extra money to stabilize it when using it on a tripod. I do a lot of hiking with my video gear so this one seems a bit big a cumbersome compared to some other smaller sliders but they are also higher in price. But this one isn't as cheap as I thought it might be. Overall I wouldn't have known about this had you not made a video on it. I was looking at the neweer slider similar to this that's about half the price recently too.
@markwiemels2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm planning to do an entirely seperate video about the gimbal interlink. I would not be doing any serious hiking with this unit, it's too big in my opinion.

Hoe fast does it move? Does it always go that slowly?
@markwiemels Жыл бұрын
Speed is adjustable, it can move more quickly.
@Superz3ro2 жыл бұрын
With a GH5, you could achieve a similar affect using the 4K Live Cropping Mode in camera, handheld or on a tripod… …
@aldolega2 жыл бұрын
It's really not similar, because there's no parallax effect (fore/mid/backgrounds moving at different speeds). The live crop gives you basically a Ken Burns effect, which isn't the same.
@markwiemels2 жыл бұрын
It's a good idea, and for sure worth trying if you don't have a slider, but the effect won't be the same. Still, it's a good way to add interest to a shot.

@@ChazWinter I always do. The talent or interviewee’s mic picks it up. Don’t buy this slider if you record sound

@@antone9751 I mainly do music videos, and when I do film audio in real time, I just EQ it if something is annoying me. It helps to be in the music industry I guess!
@antone9751 Жыл бұрын
@@ChazWinter sure, it is possible to eq the noise out to a degree but I’ve used other (cheaper!) sliders that are far quieter. Most of the noise in my slider actually comes from the motor housing resonating. Also, as the slider reaches the end of the track, as it slows down to a stop, the noise changes in volume and pitch making a simple eq much more complicated.

just bought a hotdog v3 and bun to use with my Crane 3 Lab, and i'm a little disappointed to be honest. The gimbal and slider do NOT sync up, so you program in your waypoints and by the time the slider gets to even the first waypoint, the subject/object is not in the part of the frame that you want it to be. I'm not saying it's completely useless, but it's not good. You can't use it to shoot products expecting professional results. If you want to dolly across to a subject and the pan as you go by, that's not happening. You just dont know when it's going to start the pan. So, you have to do it by hand. If you're going to do it by hand then you're better off buying a cheaper motorised slider. I suppose it would be alright doing landscapes and stuff, but as for in studio. I wouldn't buy one. Also as a side note. I didn't receive a spare belt and thread adapter with mine. The slider comes with a 3/8 thread on it so you can't mount a dslr directly onto it, or even a gimbal, you need a 1/4. Many of the video's you see state that the adapter comes with the slider along with a spare band for the motor, it doesn't. So to buy an adapter you can get a cheap one off amazon for $12/$10, but, once it's tight the camera might not point in the correct direction. To buy an adjustable adapter you're talking an extra £35/$40 for the very cheapest and about £100/$120 for a good one. Just be aware of this. Can I recommend it? Not without a firmware update fixing the sync issue. But my guess it isn't going to be fixed. When the slider came out 2 years ago this issue was highlighted. A firmware update was mentioned as a solution, but it's never happened. If it's not been fixed by now, they aint fixing it. Basically, this is good as a toy or a hobby. The other problem I've found is that if you create a waypoint and then move the slider and create a second, it doesnt slowly move to the second point. It will hit the first point and stay on it until until it moves to the second point, and then jump to that. It would be better if it slowly went form point to poin. That way you can "track" a subject. There needs to be 2 video modes, a point select, and a drag mode. What you actually can do is create a first point and then use the joystick on the gimbal to track the object, as the app records what you do with the gimbal between setting a and b. The problem with that is this, if ive already completed the move by hand, what do i need the app for? The app really is limited in this regards. Be aware of the limitations before you buy one.
