I worked at a dodge stealership and we had a tech who would upsell jobs like timing belts or transmission flushes etc, and he would park the cars around back and throw the new parts in the trash then brake clean off the engine and park it back out front the next day. When i brought this up to our manager his response was well he makes us money… loaded my toolbox and got out of there, the customer has the power to just stop giving these places money and restructure how we buy cars

I agree for people that ask for discounts suck. I am a first responder and seen many of our free perks go away. If I’m on duty and the employee decides to give me a discount cool I’ll appreciate it. But I’ve seen people go off duty in their uniform and mention the department they work for and ask for a discount or something free. It’s a courtesy from a company it’s not an invitation to get free stuff wherever you go

As somebody that works in the fixed ops side of the dealership, the problem that consumers could potentially run into is dealers not being willing to work on cars purchased direct from the mfr. Some dealers already will not work on cars purchased from their competition. I can see dealer principles blacklisting all of these Scouts. That would mean that VW world have to build service centers like Tesla has done. That might not be financially feasible for them.

The only reason it seems worth having dealerships is for warranty, recalls, TSB's, same day parts, etc. Something really needs to be done about the price gouging, though.

I hate dealers, always look for something to void my warranty. I had lowering springs for my Mustang my speed sensor went out, a known issue but they tried to blame the lowering springs they did the wheel bearings as well. Had to go back because the tech didn’t reconnect the brake it and it blew. It was a hassle I got my money back for the diagnostic. Never went back and I wanted to buy a new car. Got a new truck from another dealer
