Hi Lewis. Superb stuff. All your locomotives look a lot better than the straight out of the box items. Towards the end of steam a lot of the steam locomotives were in a poor and neglected state and just the essential maintenance being carried out. Even the gwr were not often cleaned, which on express locomotives was rare. I can remember seeing lots of poor condition engines at New England shed and around the peterborough East Station. I can't even remember seeing a clean WD loco. Again great video. Cheers Chris.
@MouldyRaspberry3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris, good points. I used to live not far from where Peterborough East station once was. Some of the old sheds have been incorporated into a new development there which is good to see.

I had raspberry pie today; not mouldy, however. Your painting and weathering efforts are consistent across your fleet. They all look as though they have seen the same sort of maintenance and worked in the same places and conditions over time. For one reason, or another, a couple locos received a bit of cosmetic help to look a litttle shinier. You are correct in that a number of this fleet could almost pass for American. Remove the buffers, add a headlight and "cowcatcher" and no one the wiser! Of course, for Americans, part of the charm of British railways are the "exotic" appearing steamers we do not see over here. And some of our common locomotives will appear "exotic" to GB eyes! As long as they run upon rails, we all like them! -Steve

The weathering is beautifully done. A minor point, though, the lamps look very stark white in comparison. I paint mine a light grey, any route discs similarly, as pure white was very rare around the railways in steam days so my (failing) memory tells me! And once on the loco they still look white.

I'm hesitating about buying a WD austerity. I'm really in for its look, but I'm reluctant because I have some doubts about the mechanism. Seems your own does the job neatly, I will reconsider my position, and find some money for a forthcoming purchase.

Thanks Olivier - yeah not a great mechanism like most Bachmann locos from those years. If you can get one cheap second hand though, probably worth it.

The standards are my favourites the 4MT and 75XXX the most. I am waiting for the 2MT to complete the collection. I think Hornby are the best ones they have great detail and ones I have have run well. Your 75XXX looks to have a wobble on the rear wheel. I have noticed on some videos which probably makes it rock. I notice you do not fit the brake rigging It does not really show but I wonder if there is a reason for that. This will make a good series and it will be good to see how you get the sound recorded and the editing done.
@MouldyRaspberry3 жыл бұрын
Me too 👍🏻 I’ve never noticed the 4MT wobbling, only the 5MT! I sometimes fit it, but find it a bit annoying to remove when it comes to servicing the locos as it can block screws. I’ve got them all in a tub somewhere, I’ll get round to it one day!

They do look great and your upgrades really add to them. Your audio levels in this were very varied. Your voice was very low compared to your steam sound effects which were very loud. I had to turn up the volume quite a lot to hear you and then got blasted when the adverts interrupted

@@MouldyRaspberry what do you use to do your editing as there should be volume sliders for each clip?
@Cairol583 жыл бұрын
Once again a great video and an all very interesting one regarding your locos. Did I understand correctly the layout is run totally in analog mode just like let’s say some 50 years ago and so no digital components involved? I have a couple of N gauge Graham Farish steam locos and stuff; wanting to build a small layout situated in the British country side but never got round to do it yet, sigh! 😔. Greeting from Germany.
BR Standards and rebuilt Bulleids are my favourites… I just wish someone would manufacture RTR BR Standard Class 3MT 2-6-0s. They are like Starlings: almost beautiful but not really😉 Not to worry about locos that rock under load. The real ones do, because they ‘stand’ on their connecting rods with each ‘downward’ directed power stroke think
@MouldyRaspberry3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Stephen - I completely agree. I think the 5MT is due a modern retool as well, but probably best to fill in the blanks first! That’s a very good point about the rocking!
