A short review of No.12 Carbon Steel Folding Saw. The small saw with a 12 cm blade and beechwood handle, it's the perfect tool for work in the garden or for doing some light bushcrafting. #BushcraftEssentials #OpinelSaw #Opinel #review

This is a great saw. I've had one for years. As you said, it doesn't have a long blade, but on the other hand this means that it folds down to a very compact size. I carry one in my pocket all the time because it's so compact. Therefore I always have a saw with me. It's surprising how often I use it simply because I have it with me.

True, a good EDC for outdoor use.

I’m very happy that you told us that it is made in South Korea, I didn’t know this. The old “Sierra saw” from Coghlan’s was made in South Korea too and I would bet they are produced by the same company. The Sierra Saw is very cheap, you should try it, it’s also a pull only saw but cuts extremely well, the blade is replaceable too. The handle is cheap plastic but it’s strong and holds up. I personally think it’s equal to the Opinel no.18 saw in quality (roughly the same size too) the replacement blades are cheap too. The blades are SK-5 carbon steel, which is a Japanese saw type steel that’s very common but good. I personally think the saws can be resharpened if you’re careful. Thank you for the info and I subscribed, good luck Mr. Donkov.

Looks very well made. I was not aware that they don’t make it in Chambery, France. Looks really nice with wooden handle. Not heavy duty but very good craftsmanship!

The large one they still make in France, the smaller in S. Korea supposedly.

wasted too much energy. Try to let the blade do the work and not push so much.

I have a few penknives, but its my Opinel I cary every day. The wood is very pleasing to hold, and the collar on the closed blade keeps it closed in my pocket as well as when its in use. I wonder if its possible to sharpen the Opinel saw, perhaps using chainsaw files? I would imagine the next size up of the saw would be all round more useful perhaps ? All the best Keith.

Thanks for the comment. To me it looks like it cannot be sharpened. Their bigger saw is probably a better fit for a serious bushcrafter, but I like the practicality of the smaller one.
