Remember two big friends went to this race in 1982 and it never stopped raining, luckily I did not go as I did not buy my first bike until the following year. KR's bike catching fire is the one thing I always remember. The days when 500cc racing was only ever shown on World of Sport, and with this race being on a Saturday I would try to fit it in with my lunch break on my first Saturday job and watch the race in the local tv shop!

Remember they had similar weather in 1985 when Christian Sarron brought Spencer down at the first corner. The race in 1983 was another memorable one for the wrong reasons when Wayne Gardner hit Uncini and took Uncini's helmet off. How Uncini survived I don't know, but he was never the same rider again and fortunately I have never seen the same thing happen again.

Went to this and the two TT's you mention above. As a Saturday GP used to be 40 to 50 coaches from the UK going across every year.

Jack Middleburg was a quality racer, won the Dutch in 79, I was there as well, and won the Brit GP at one point. Circuit has been chopped up now, a lot shorter.

Look at the size of the line up on the grid-we might get 18 bikes in a modern MotoGP

why did they push the bikes on start
@SmeurkeDeKat Жыл бұрын
That's just how they did it. I don't know the exact reason, but it was carried over from the pre-war era. Push-starts were the norm until 1986 I believe.

This was a long time ago, when these riders were completely fearless, admirable, and still wild. Back then this was thought of as one of the safest ways to race a motorcycle
@stevebigansky937211 ай бұрын
@@raceboi95I knew exactly what you're talking about because I raced a TZ750 in the AMA Formula 1 series back in '81/x82 - I didn't consider riding a 300 lb 140hp 2 stroke in the RAIN very safe at all -
@raceboi9511 ай бұрын
@@stevebigansky9372 well no of course not, I didn’t say all riders were crazy and fearless, these guys were, the ones chasing the in anyway, if they didn’t go out and race they could lose their title or not get paid. Their mindset was to just get on with it and you gotta do what you gotta do. (Also racing in the 82 formula AMA season is EPIC)
