Well if your still out of the Country at Christmas I'll have one or two for you. hows that?... ha ha This year I shall raise a glass just for you. :-) This is my fav day of the year in my fav pub. Christmas day drinking atmosphere is brilliant and simply priceless too me... You can keep your tropical Islands and sunshine on this day me old china... ha ha. Give me the Bottel, my family and a good pint on Christmas day and we are in heaven our kid. Thanks for watching. :-)

We were in this Pub again this year having our Christmas drink, the pub was packed out and had a lovely atmosphere so unique to Christmas. This really is a true british Pub in all its glory. Great olde-worlde pub, used to occasionally drink in there after picking up my then-girlfriend from Wednesbury College in the heady days of the late 1970s, and also in the pub opposite The Cottage, the name of which I forget...

The atmosphere in there Christmas day was brilliant and just how pubs should be, warm, friendly and lots of happy looking people. You dont need Palm trees and a beach, come back home ! ( Im looking at grey gloomy skies as I write this ) ha ha

The nice thing about an Historical listing is that more than half are privately owned, the aim being preservation. Many eventually become public property, but ideally the listing is meant to preserve historical places from disrepair or demolition and maintain their function for everyone to enjoy into the future. I know of at least one tavern that is on that list The White Horse Tavern the oldest in the US built in New England 163 years after Ye Olde Leathern Bottel!

What a lovely place... I hope it's on some historical list... though it is such a young pub ; ) Considering that the first permanent European settlement in the Americas was that same year... it might be considered a rather old establishment on this side of the Atlantic

This is one of my fav Pubs ever, its such a lovely place, low ceilings, small cosy rooms, proper fireplaces, exposed oak beams etc... come christmas day, it's ram packed with a fantastic atmosphere second to none. Not sure what list it may be on, but you can bet it will be around long after I've gone.. ha ha

In the US there are a few such lists.
