Ever since Kanye became independent, more than ever he's been using controversy and provocation as his main sources of marketing. If the masses responded to his antics with apathy and disinterest, then he would probably go back to the drawing board and try something else. That said, Kanye advocating for Diddy may be be deeper than just trying to be controversial, given that Kanye has had some allegations brought against him as well.
