An overview of how to talk about years in Russian: how to name a year, and how to say when something happened 'in' a given year.
We'll cover when you need cardinal numbers like 'twelve' or 'ninety,' when you need ordinals like 'twelfth' and 'ninetieth,' and a few tricky points of some ordinal numbers.

An outstanding and marvellous channel. This channel has helped me a lot, especially distinguishing the soft and hard sounds. Very sad that it is not getting enough views and subscribers.

Thanks! It can certainly be challenging, but it's worth it to get to know an instrument of meaning that can be so subtle and expressive, while being so different from one's native language. )

I also find you have chosen very important three years in modern Russian History. Very considerate choice. 1917 - Russian Revolution 1945 - Victory of WW2 1991 - The fall of USSR

Great video! I'm learning Russian myself and was wondering if you could post a video showing the difference between тоже и ещё. I'm confused as to which one to use as they both mean "also/too".

***** Cheers! Also, some nouns use "на" instead of "в" to mean "in". I know there are a few basic rules to learn such as the compass points, events and outdoor places take "на", but are there any other rules or is there anything I should be aware of?

4:44 There is a little distorsion in тысячи pronunciation. Otherwise, congratulations! This is a very good lesson of Russian language.

In quick speech you'll often hear a reduced or abbreviated pronunciation of numbers, so тысяча can sound like тыщ, тыща, or тыщи. See this video for more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5rIh5aed6ppis0 - you can hear examples of тыcяча at about the 3:53 mark. :)

Случайный русский комментарий. Я не соглашусь с автором в том, что, при быстром произношении, "девятьсот" произносится как "дитсот". Я больше склоняюсь к варианту "диитсот", так как хоть "вя" и сокращается, но из слова не пропадает.

+Владислав Кудряшов Возможны варианты, конечно, в зависимости от контекста и говорящего - спасибо за комментарий. Vladislav points out that he's inclined to pronounce девятьсот as диитсот with a slightly longer и - for him the вя doesn't disappear completely. Thanks for the comment, Vladislav - it's worth keeping in mind that variation among individual speakers is always possible.

Russian grammar Конечно мой вариант это всего лишь моё субъективное восприятие моего произношения. Другие могут по-другому произносить.))

Владислав Кудряшов "вя" не читается??? В слове "девятьсот" произносится как "ви", и у автора отличное произношение

How do you expect anyone to learn when you say the Russian year so quickly? What a hassel just to say the year😢
@russiangrammar
@russiangrammar 10 ай бұрын
No need to rush the process. Make sure you're comfortable with the basic numbers first, and ordinals, giving yourself time to practice them; then put them together, slowly at first, for years. You can do it! Also keep in mind you can abbreviate things in context, like в пятнадцатом году, and people will likely assume you mean 2015, not 1415. :)

Пожалуйста! в тысяча девятьсот пятьдесят шесто́м году = in 1956; в две тысячи шесто́м году = in 2006. Remember that шесто́й has end stress, like седьмо́й and восьмо́й.
