Old guy here with my knowledge of "Mountain Dew Mouth." Mountain Dew was slang for moonshine up the mountains - we called them the Smokey Mountains here in Carolina - they actually are part of the Appalachian Mountains that touch a lot of states here in the south. Yellawolf mentions West Virginia. Up in the mountains of West Virginia there are some parts that are so country that even us country boys in surrounding states call them West Virginia Boys "back woods." Anyway, back to Mountain Dew Mouth - some of the really old school fellas used to chase all their whiskey or shine down with Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew was always considered the "hometown " drink for some reason. I'm not sure why, but it was. As such, almost everybody drank it. As you probably already know, soda kicks the shit out of your teeth and gums, and it seems Mountain Dew even more so. You also probably know the stereotype of poor hillbillies living in the woods not having the best oral hygiene habits - well, stereotypes usually have some basis in fact somewhere, and it's the case here. When I'd go party in the mountains, there were more than their fair share that had some messed up grills, and we'd say, "He's got that Mountain Dew Mouth". It meant you were missing teeth or they were brown as shit all over. I saw one comment saying it had to do with a meth binge - maybe that's what it means today, but it didn't start that way. As far as what the old folks told us, it just meant your teeth and gums were a mess, and that's the way we always used it, too. It takes years to get a really good Dew mouth. Any soda can get you there, it's just everyone drank Mountain Dew in the old days, and it was big with alcohol chasing/mixing.

First off thanks for reacting to Yelawolf, and I'm glad you appreciate his originality, creativity, and his flow/cadence. His tapeworm verse is one of the favorite rap/ hip-hop verses I've ever heard. I'm gonna put my interpretation/explanation below, even if only a couple people read it, because Yelawolf writes goddamn poetry, but then raps too fast for listeners to digest it, ironically. "1.Food for thought, words must be edible 2. I gotta tapeworm, never full, ha 3. Mixtape worm, never coiled 4. Tangled and stuck, loose and pulled 5. Like a Reader's Digestive system 6. Twisted with a list of mystic raps I unfoil 7. Like a brisket hot, chopped, or liquid boiled 8. I'm fresh to death, like Egyptian oil" 1st line. Words and lyrics need to have meaning 2. Yela can never get enough words 3. He never rests (as snakes coil when staying still) ..(not too sure about this line) 4. & 5. & 6. His listener's can't handle the complexity of his lyrics, his words are hardly 'edible' because they are so complex 7. His 'mystic' raps are like a brisket for your digestions system when he unfoils them. 8. Egyptians used embalming oils to preserve dead bodies so well that they survived for thousands of years. So he's saying his music will survive long after he's dead and gone. The whole lyrics as food metaphor for the verse is incredible... "food for thought, words must be edible" is a cool enough line as is, and then he just goes in
