This video is about Yellow-bellied Marmot (narrated) living in a mountain meadow high in the Rockies.
Marmots mate when they are around two years old. In late winter. Or early spring the male emerges from his burrow and seeks out females. In time he might have four families on the go. He must protect his colony from other males.
The young are born in burrows that may be 5-7 meters (16 to 23 feet) long. Once weaned they will feed on grasses, grains and other plants but they will also eat bird’s eggs and insects.
