My daughter saved a yellow bellied slider in Florida a few days ago… poor thing got hit by a car and lost her hind leg and there was damage to her shell but she’s going to make it!!! 😊 she actually recognized that it was a slider because she remembered my red eared slider “ Taco” from when she was little. I literally had my Taco Belly for nearly 20 years… and he was my Dad’s for over 5 years before I was ever born they’re great pets but there is definitely a commitment to having them as pets because they will live for a long time especially when they don’t have any predators threatening them and they are guaranteed their food, no hunting 😂 they also don’t stay tiny so you’ll have to accommodate for their growth along the way too. Taco was a boy and he was pretty good sized as an adult but had he been a female he probably would have been quite a bit bigger than he was… people need to learn about animals before taking them in as pets because it’s not fair to the animal to be held captive and not have to worry about predators or food but then getting released into the wild… that’s not fair to them 😢 our vet said that Taco was probably about 10 yrs old when my Dad found him and drug him home so he was about 35 yrs old or older when we lost him but they can actually live even longer than that so if you are going to get one as a pet then you should be prepared and have a backup plan for them just in case they outlive you 😅👍🏻
