Yellowtail KINGFISH in Melbourne's RIP - jigging for kingfish

So last weekend I took my quintrex renegade 460 offshore for the first time ever off flinders looking for tuna, we found the tuna but didn't hookup so this week I set out to have another go, but the weather was not the best for the little boat so I decided to launch at Sorrento and have a look at the rip as I've never had it in there and wanted to see what it was like, we pulled up to find literally 100's of boats all chasing kingfish so we got out the jigs and had a crack too!

That jigging style is so different to anything I'm used to doing! If I jigged like that where I fish the lure would go flying over my head hahaha. Loved the slomo on the professional salmon release lol! That kingfish was a beast, nice work Mark!

Hahaha yeah well this was 40m-60m deep where we were jigging a lot different to cod rivers 😂🤣 Yeah they are hard to hold when they are going nuts hey 😂

Good stuff mate, the feeling when u get a special fish into the boat is priceless, we got hooked up to one on the rip the other day but completely spooled me on super light gear, anyway, just wondering what day this is and what the weather was roughly forecasted to be, cheers

Oh I know right I was soo stoked! Yeah they definitely go hard! I actually hooked a bigger one this day too but dropped it aswell lol This was Sunday the 1st Of March was light winds in the morning and then blew up to about 15 knots by the time we came in

Great video. In regards to the jigs, do you lose many to the bottom snagging up?

Thanks!! In three trips I’ve done I’ve lost one jig, I think the coloured braid helps you know how deep you are when looking at the sounder, but yeah it’s pretty easy to loose one. I try to jig as soon as it hits the bottom

Thanks mate! I just went out and bought a new setup actually lol had a shimano palegic nano rod, diawa saltist 6500 reel, 50lb Finns braid with 100lb leader. Also have the same rod with a Saragossa 10000 reel just in case

No just drifting, your not allowed to anchor in the rip... and it starts around 20m and ends up around 60m
