Building isn't necessarily about being good. Just throw a bunch of your favorite cards together, play test a metric ton, and make adjustments based on what your deck struggles to do or against. Thats how I have always built my decks, and most people hate going against my decks. Mainly because I stumble into "oops I win" combos

Was coming down to the comments to say this, the trick with Cascade is that it risks pulling out cards when you don't want them, but if you make the cards you don't want to fizzle just not have an odd CMC it goes from a deckbuilding challenge to intelligently braindead.

My opinion of cost numbers in MTG: 0: Not fair to judge, the cost is in the text. 1: The first sign of things being free. Despite its status, it is weirdly often how it is the lynchpin in a gameplan. 2: Vinny's Cheapo Cards lot. Are simple, do maybe 1 thing, and then fuck off and die. 3: Now we are cooking with gas. The minimum for any tricolor deck. You can get buckwild with this. There aren't many wincons, but there is certainly a lot of fun stuff. My favorite yCMC 4: This is where the fun really gets going. They will have 2 abilities, and a score that means that if you are no here to fight them stop wasting your time. 5: A number of power. The climb to the summit begins here. If you have a card worth 5, it better be worth it. 6: Ok, I mean now it is getting overly bougie. We are approaching territory of cards that exist to do crimes for. 7: Yeah, now that is a number. This is where wincons begin. 8: You better be playing well, because to get here you need to EARN it. 9+: This card exists only in the graveyard, and only for you to Victimize it back to life on BOGO.

I'm brewing Yennett as a Russian Roulette deck, about one in 6 crads will either outright or all but lose me the game on the spot (Think Phage or One with Nothing). The rule when playing the deck is I HAVE to cast the card Yennett reveals.
