Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, with a history dating back to the 8th century BC when it was founded by King Argishti I.
Yerevan is famous for its pink tuff stone buildings that give the city a distinctive warm color, especially during sunset at the grand Republic Square, famous for its singing fountains.
There are plenty of good cafés around the Cascade, a giant stairway made of limestone that gives a panoramic view of the city against the backdrop of Mount Ararat.
Armenian food is some of the best in the world, with traditional dishes like khorovats (Armenian barbecue) and lavash (a type of flatbread).
