It is criminal that it took so long for these two amazing bands to be inducted.

Just in case you weren't aware of the more recent history of Yes, it effectively splintered into two bands called Yes a couple of decades ago, one focused on European touring and the other in North America. So this performance was a reunion of sorts. Geddy was apparently asked to take the [then recently departed] Chris Squire's place as a function of the delicate diplomacy of navigating between the two groups of musicians. That, and he's Geddy Frick'n Lee!

This is not close to the heights of live YES performances... sooo many more YES masterpieces ahead of you both studio and live. Cheers!

I had the immense pleasure of seeing them on the Union Tour and actually got to go backstage and meet them. They were staying at the hotel where I was working as a bellman. They had gone to the stadium for soundcheck and left Jon behind. He came out and asked if someone could give him a ride to the stadium Of course I instantly grabbed the hotel van and drove him down and for 25 minutes we talked. Then when we got there he brought me in and got me 1st row tickets and backstage passes. All the guys were so outgoing and pleasant. I remember Trevor had a cold and Jon warned me not to get too close to him so I didn't catch it. An experience I will never forget.

I have seen YES 5 times and they performed this song in every concert. AMAZING!!! Truly the pioneers of Prog Rock. Amazing harmonies. Amazing complex compositions in their music. Amazing musicians!!! I encourage you to hear the studio version of this song and others. 😊😊😊

I'm a few years younger than these guys and I can't believe what they are/were still able to do. I'm just a lame 63yo. Igrew up on this music. B0th RUSH and Yes. Geddy is class isn't he.

Yes' music in two blokes, vocal part and instrumental. Vocal is formed by John Anderson as the frontman, leader, author and maximum vocalist. His pitchy voice almost in falsetto, it's to be seen embranced by Chris Squire and Steve Howe, that accompained him, but Jon is the key man that without him Yes would not exist. The Yes' base are keyboards, specially since Rick Wakeman's entrance and his sound polychrome world with moogs, mellotroms , synths, pianos and organs. Squire with his bass, one of the key man's group. Big part of this advance owes to Rick Wakeman, which depart of Yes, left out with a future doubt not only who wants to replace him fantastic video thank you Rory 👍👏🏻👌🎸🎹

You missed the best part... the Yes acceptance speeches which are now sort of legendary... Rick Wakeman is a bit of a comedian, all I can say it's a must watch.

Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is very political. This band should have been inducted in the 90's as the pioneers of Prog Rock!!!😊😊😊😊

You mention imagining it played with just acoustic guitar. On the original album, the intro (and where that motif comes in at the end) is played by Howe on an acoustic. Recommend listening to that version (not the remaster). That’s what we experienced (on vinyl though) in 1971.

The issue with RRHF is that Rolling Stone has a huge influence over who gets in or not and they have never liked progressive artists that didn’t produce hit singles or weren’t cultural icons. Rolling Stone consistently shit on Led Zeppelin so that’s all you need to know. I’m glad that both Yes and Rush were finally inducted because for me, that’s real songwriting and phenomenal musicianship that only strengthens all the others who have already been inducted

PS - I knew you'd really dig this song, the chance to reflect on the heartfelt tributes provided by Geddy and Alex, and the hysterical acceptance speech of Rick Wakefield. Two out of three ain't bad though. Come to think of it, how familiar are you with Meatloaf's work. His song, "2 out of three ain't bad," would be a good place to start!

Rory im usually here for Chris Cornell but "yes" is one of my favourite bands, since i know you are a beatles fan who loves a good melody i can recommend "time and a word" which is Beatle ish" in my opinion and "going for the one" has a great classic melody....yes have their epic 20min tracks but are also very capable of more traditional songs too if thats more to your taste.

OK 😅 YOU CLEARLY HAVEN'T HEARD ENOUGH PROG to say that only Rush could intro YES. 😅 😮 On the list of great pure PROG, Rush aren't even near the top, IMHO. I've never been a fan of their Hardrock (& occasional attempts at Pseudo-Prog) but they gave talent and I liked Getty's speech. Who wouldn't be blown away by YES back then, like me in 1971. YES were the GODS, Masters and one of the main creators of the genre and of groundbreaking innovative modern music, period. Rush fans get amped up seeing Geddy in for the greatest Bassist of ALL TIME, Chris Squire (RIP) who sadly died before this finally happened. 😢 but they never reached the astounding level of imaginative creativity and virtuosity of 70s YES.

The RRHOF is a joke! There are so many bands that should be in it and are not and so many non rock "artists" that are that don't belong there. Fragile is one of my favourite albums of all time. You haven't done any Rush in a long time. May I suggest a few songs from their later years I think you woukd enjoy. Secret Touch from the Snakes and Arrows tour Stick it out official music video Caravan from the Time Machine Tour Cheers
