This was a weekday game, it was freezing, it was moved up 5 hours to the middle of the day when everyone has to work/go to school (originally a night game) and the Sox were on a huge losing streak. I'm honestly surprised that many people showed up.

It's definitely refreshing seeing people bestow acts of kindness on kids. I'm sure it also makes long lasting mlb fans. I'm curious if all of his postive publicity and acts of kindness to kids of families who are dropping serious $ contribute to teams saying throw him all the balls you can. If not, these owners need to. They get great expose and their fans leave with a postive experience and are gonna want to come back. You sir, are the hero baseball has been needing for years.

I had a similar empty stadium experience at new Comiskey or whatever they’re calling it. Attended a mid week game vs the Orioles in 2018. The plus side: plenty of empty seats, ushers weren’t enforcing where you could sit, $8 tickets and $1 hot dogs. The downside: for every $1 hot dog I ate, it was chased down by an $11 beer.
@lsmftymf
@lsmftymf 2 жыл бұрын
Once watched a pre-2005 April Sunday afternoon White Sox v. Royals match from the upper deck boxes on the first-base side. Announced attendance (actually tickets sold) was just above 10,000, but it looked as though at most 1,000 showed up. Sox Park was so deserted that afternoon that I heard the whir of the scoreboards for the entire contest.

Im 25 and I’ve gone to plenty of Sox games. Most of them being in the past 3 years. I remember that when I was younger I used to say hey to the players, they used to sign baseballs, the used to do batting practice and everything. Now, it’s all about making money on beer and food. I recently moved to Orlando so I may never visit GRF again, but the memories are there but vague.

I read the description and I just knew this had to be about Guaranteed Rate Field. I've been to a few Sox games over the years that looked like they had maybe 2-300 people. Obviously probably about 2-3000, but I mean nobody around. Pick your seat. Nobody gives a s*** what you're doing. I was wondering around the scout seats behind the plate while Bobby Jenks is pitching in the middle of the game 😂😂😂.

This video!! 1:16 that is me!! you were right behind me?! My sign was the Royals logo and a plane flying up to the Mariners logo with a plane flying back to a blue heart with KC in it with Home because I visited T-Mobile Park and Guaranteed Rate Field as a part of my stadium tour (not in one season) which landed me at 20 stadiums visited. Probably the coldest game I ever went to was on a Friday night in April 1996 between the Tigers and Athletics at Tiger Stadium. The temperature at game time was 44 degrees, but that was accompanied by a 20 mph wind. The Tigers had a bad team that year and the Red Wings had a playoff game at the same time that evening but the cold definitely kept a lot of people at home. The announced attendance was just under 8,000, but I'm sure that was based on tickets sold, and mostly season tickets at that. There couldn't have been more than a few hundred people in the stands. I was lucky to have a pair of gloves in my car and I bought a cap at a concession stand as I entering the stadium, but I was silly enough to wear a spring/fall weight jacket that was no match for the cold. I started out in the lower bleachers, but by the end of the first inning, I had moved to the upper bleachers so that I could sit right by the center field scoreboard in hopes that it might give off some heat. That plan didn't work, and I ended up leaving in the third inning Most of the scoring happened after I left; it was 2-0 Tigers when I left and they ended up winning 14-5.

When they first built it the steep uperdeck was much bigger and had no protection against the elements. In 2004 they got rid of a large portion of the upper deck and built the overhang. It totally changed the ballpark ambience , but those upperdeck seats are dangerously steep. I think It's a very underrated ballpark.

Really glad to have gotten to seen you earlier this week and I’ll definitely see you again this year. Gonna try to go to Yankee Stadium a few times this year and really am gonna try to next time the Red Sox are there in July, so keep me posted. I’ve been talking to your intern Max for a while and he told me that you know I’m transferring to Hofstra in the fall where he goes to school. I’ll definitely hit up some Yankee games when I’m at school despite being a Red Sox fan. It’s great that I’ll be able to see you more often. Sucks that it’s harder for me to get to Fenway now as a Red Sox fan and when you go there- I feel like it’s meant for me to be there so really glad I was able to squeeze in a game this week when you were up there despite not going to school in the Boston area anymore. See you again soon-ish.

I’ve been to a few cold weather games. It feels even colder in the nose bleed seats.

I went to Wrigley the first Saturday of the season, it was 45 degrees and windy. It was fairly nice if you were sitting out in the sun but under the awnings with the wind blowing in your face was miserable

Oakland might need a visit. Almost guaranteed to catch a ball during the game.

I’ve been to Brewers games when they were bad early 2000’s and the stadium was 20% full. Some of my favorite memories tho. Got to meet some really awesome players and the ushers let me sit near the field a bunch at end of games. Baseball to me is beautiful regardless of attendance. You can make it special!

@@zachgalante3577 you’re entitled to your opinion. Baseball has been a big part of my life, for reasons I won’t get into here.

I've missed you by a day twice this season. Even in better weather that place has seen awful attendance but plenty of room to roam no lines at the concessions which is what I enjoy. It was half empty when trout and ohtani came to town. Looking foward to 80 degrees at comerica this weekend vs Baltimore I'm expecting a much lower attendance than the Yankees series hoping to get on the board Friday.
