There's something just eerie about an empty stadium, kinda like an abandoned amusement park. But, many games a year are seen with minimal fans attending and 80% empty seats. I don't see how they afford to even open the stadiums like that.

I'm a Cubs fan, originally from Chicago. The Sox ownership has been DOA for years. Reinsdorf really doesn't care, he owns the Bulls, too, and they have seen better days as well. It sucks that he has allowed a storied franchise sink into such mediocrity. The first All Star game was played there, at Old Comiskey Park. That place was old, definitely outdated, but, A freaking baseball palace. It looked and smelled like a historic ballpark, I always had fun going to Old Comiskey. I saw a bunch if hall of famers from the AL play there. The new field was really sterile, until they did some changes to make it more comfortable and baseball like. Its not so bad now. The funny part is, GR Field is only 15 minutes or so from where I lived, but, I'm a Cubs fan. It took a lot longer to get up to Wrigley. Funny thing around that time, no team had fans in the stands. Only cardboard cutouts and cheers played on loudspeakers. I’m a Yankees fan and have been to several Yankees games before, but I remember my first white Sox game I went to was in 2000 after I got out of navy boot camp and had a ton of fun. I feel for this fanbase and even Cubs fans will tell you that they deserve better..

This is a nice video. Just one thing, we Chicagoans call the rapid transit system here the "el" or "elevated", even when it runs underground. I understand you New Yorkers call your rapid transit system, the "subway," even when it runs above ground. Vive la difference!

I have seen empty stadiums in Montreal, and believe me, I know what I'm talking about as an Expos fan ...but here it's unbelievable in a much larger city as the beautiful Chicago....Chicago metro area population is exactly the total of the 2 largest cities in Canada : Toronto and Montreal...I love Chicago !

I'm in Vancouver and can tell you MLB is not wanting to go back to Montreal. We are supposedly in the process of eventually getting the Arizona Diamondbacks. My neighbors here know the Canucks first owner and he is a prominent businessman here in Vancouver. He tells them MLB is put off at the politics in Quebec as well as Olympic stadium is falling apart and needs a zillion dollars to fix up. No one in Montreal wants to pony up the $$$ both private or government to pay for anything there. Montreal only needed a new downtown ball park back in the day and they'd still be there.

I attended the record low at Yankee Stadium, a Wednesday afternoon game in late August, I think it was 1966. The Yankees were in 9th place and the Senators in 10th in the AL (no playoffs). I bought a General Admission ticket and was one of three people in the bleachers, who were far away from me. I saw in the New York Times the next day that it was the record low attendance at Yankee Stadium in its history. Paid attendance was168, and they were all behind home plate but me and the other two. I was in left field and chatted with Joe Peppitone between innings. I asked him to hit me a home run ball as it was probably the only chance I'd ever have. He tried but it didn't happen. :(

A couple of my buddies and I went to a Phillies game with a 2-3 hour rain delay and stayed through it. Upon restart, there was about 10 people in the park. It was one of the weirdest experiences of our lives. You could literally hear people across the stadium just casually chatting amongst themselves.

I watched the White Sox play the Padres on Sept 22, at Petco Park. The WS starting pitcher did a great job btw, he's one to watch. But I remember, prior to that series, hoping that the Pads would not be the ones to send the White Sox into baseball infamy with the record-breaking loss. Most Padres fans around me felt the same way, for we've had our share of terrible seasons and sparse crowds too. But not like this. This is an excellent video, but heartbreaking too. It hurts to see what's happened.

I went to an A's game a few weeks ago. Only a few thousand people (they're leaving at the end of the season), but my son and I had a great time. Sit where you want, no lines anywhere, very friendly people (both fans and employees).

In 1975 the Braves had less than a thousand show up for a game that also had some weather issues. If I'm not mistaken, John Montefusco of the Giants pitched a perfect game against them.

Ebbett's Field, Candlestick Park, Sportsman's Park, Crosley Field, Polo Grounds.... I guess all the great classy names are used up. They sure hit a home run with Guaranteed Rate Park! How about Prime Rate Park, Foreclosure Field, Sub-prime Stadium 😂

I attended a Cleveland Indians game during a work trip in 1985. The team was in the midst of a 100+ loss season, and the stadium was empty. But I had a great seat, front row directly opposite 1st base. The foul ground was small, so I was really close to the action at first.

Hey Zack, it's not true that the park is empty . There are at least 500 people there (including the employees). Not bad for a big city.

I get very excited when I see you're in Chicago, Zack. Die-hard White Sox fan for life no matter what & them being this bad won't last forever. We have the worst stadium name in baseball in my opinion but the best PA announcer in Gene Honda. Great video as usual & I was happy you caught a foul ball. You rock, Zack!

I’m a Chicago guy(Chicago Dude)myself and the White Sox have an atrocious record(and you can see why the fans stay away)Cubs are doing much better on Chicago’s North Side up at Wrigley Field(Clark and Addison Streets)but you’re having fun down there at the ballpark on West 35th Street and South Shields Avenue(35th and Shields for short)

The white sucks used to be better back in the day with decent players. Now they have sold their soul and every few years they have a name change. I dont care what anyone says. ILL NEVER call it " Guaranteed rate field " Its comiskey park dammit lol.

I noticed that in order to GET that baseball from the OPPOSING coach, you 'switched' hats, and are NOW wearing a Rangers cap and NOT the White Sox hat you WERE wearing.
