@@Thorbrook I don't care about his head, don't bring feelings into the motor please. This is a logical process. If you know anything about a 2 stroke its all in the pipe. Every change he has made needed a change to the pipe. You can just tell he isn't prepared to enter in pipe making, being the only thing holding him back from the optimal pipe for the motor exactly as it is. One degree in exhaust duration changes so much in the pipe.

@@a64738 Exactly, most of the time we are humbled by their over confident behavior, thinking they gonna absolute fix it, and then indeed 2 hours later be dissapointed by those people, i think most of the time these people learned a trick somewhere and they think it applies to every situation. Specialists, or people who went to school to work in certain field lack a lot of the times basic fundamentals about stuff and because of that they often tend to black and white solutions, if certain car has x problem it has to be that part broken, why? because it always brakes on these cars. i always had fights with my boss over this as an mechanic, i quit being a mechanic because of the dumb down technical part of it all. so if you want to be a mechanic, know that the sport is in how fast they can fix something, or rebuild something, and not about real problem solving or making something better.

HINT: dont use brake cleaner to find air leaks, instead use plain household window cleaner, it will bubble and show you exact place of leak. I use it all time when checking tig welds that need to hold pressure 😉 its clean and it will evaporate you dont have to wash it
@saetastr
@saetastr Жыл бұрын
Brake cleaner is used for vacuum leaks as it is sucked by the engine and it is flammable so you will notice a rise in rpm. Soap and water is better for leaks where there is some pressure that vent to the atmosphere (a tyre for example)
@andrewshipp2739
@andrewshipp2739 Жыл бұрын
An engine is not a pressure vessel, it's sucking air. Far easier to spray something which the engine can actually run on, ie brake cleaner. You're not checking with your eyes, but your ears. You'll hear it run different if it's got a leak. I do it often at work, something with a high and erratic idle will often run really nice for a moment when showing brake clean on the area... Stops being lean all of a sudden. Crank seals, intake boots, carb gaskets etc

I have a 50cc road bike, in a high state of tune, which behaved similarly to yours. I cobbled up a butterfly valve in the header pipe, which I operate, for the time being, with the choke lever on the bars. The butterfly valve opens to another chamber of about 100cc, which is also adjustable in volume. It has worked so well in getting over the hump that I am in the process of making a better, permanent, job of it, with a 1/4 turn rotary valve, just like the Honda ATAC system (which is what gave me the idea) and controlling it with a stepper motor

Maybe some sort of pipe with a slip joint and some method of electronically/mechanically adjusting the length of the pipe? Anyway great news that you have found the issue. By the way I have often though that your intake holes in the casing for the disk valve should not be round, you would get better pulses and more time-area if they were more 'wedge' shaped, you could run a less aggressive intake timing figure and still get the required gas flow.

Hang on, how many 2 strokes won't run except idle without the exhaust/expansion chamber As a former small engine mechanic, I can tell you none in that category. Perhaps in the highly tuned racing world, it is not unheard of? Could there be an issue in your engine design regarding cylinder scavenging? ie: crankcase volume compression ratio, port timing, port shape with regard to airflow patterns and direction: ie too much exhaust dilution, over scavenging that is creating a low pressure when the ports close, etc... ? It seems there is just not enough fuel/air mixture available in the cylinder compression stroke to accelerate off idle without introducing some kind of reflective wave back towards the exhaust. It seems strange to me how well it idles as well. Perhaps there is more engineering (pressure wave scavenging) that goes into an industrial grade and racing 2 strokes than meets the eye, and we take for granted?

Hei :) Exhaust valve and variable length exhaust is for low rpm power, this only need to rev high and give max power so no need for neither. It only needs to be tuned for max power at high rpm which it should be able to do without need for low rpm power (it will need high idle speed to keep it running). Also many say in the comments that for max power at high rpm you need longer exhaust and expansion chamber, not shorter...

We have to assume that there is a pressure wave in the X chamber that is bouncing back right at the time the next slug of fuel/air is suppose to go into the cylinder. Makes sense but where did a low frequency resonance come from to jam up the whole motor as much as it did here. I like the idea of a trombone type tuning of the X-chamber. Good for making adjustments for temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. My little 60cc bike motor X chamber use to get so hot it would turn cherry red on extend runs. Slide trombone might not stand up to temperature changes.

It may be that the pipe volume is too small. Dirt bike and snowmobile manufacturers went to ‘fat pipes’ back in the 80’s to help get through that low speed range and still have the right timing pulses at high RPM. Alexander Graham Bell formulae make very small volume pipes with pretty narrow (but high) Peak HP power bands. OR, mess with variable exhaust port height to get through the lower and mid RPM ranges. A lower ex port will help tremendously at lower rpm. Just thinkin’ out loud here. Thanks for the great videos!

I believe if you're trying to make this 2-stroke 50cc put as much power out as a 125 or at 200 or 250 maybe you should try a pipe that would fit on a 250 and work your way down because the pulses have more displacement and when you go supercharged push out a compressed amount of replaced displacement like they say there's no replacement for displacement compressing are still needs to uncompress more than normally

That’s awesome you found that problem. I’m glad you're back.

Guessing the return wave arrives too soon while the rotary is still open. A reed valve masks that sort of thing. Guessing that's one reason why rotarys were mainly used in road race engines. They just kept them at a really high idle rpm I'm guessing.

Reminds me of the 1981 Honda Civic with a 1500cc engine. When Honda put the catalytic converter on it, they expected it would decrease miles per gallon, like on about every other car, but it improved mpg. Mine got 36 mpg in town and 46 mpg on the highway. If I remember right, I think it also got a bit more HP too.

Congratulations on figuring it out. Sounds like you need a power valve in the exhaust.

Might try a slippy pipe that has an adjustable length head tube...common on two stroke enduro racing karts. Can you pressurize the intake to see how things flex when the super charger is providing boost...but while the engine is not running just so you can check the clearances in the rotary valve?

You shold make a valve that controls 2 exhaust pipes. One for low rpm and one for higher rpm. or you could try the exhaust control flaps like on a regular dirtbike that close of a fraction of the port to shift timing.

Exhaust cutout... run a dual, 1 tuned to get you to "pipe rpm", and your high Rev tuned pipe. Swinging valve to switch between the 2. 1 position runs the low pipe, the other the tuned pipe. Low pipe like a "performance street" set up, high your tuned to Rev to Venus pipe, lol.

Yes. A win at last. Or at least until you start looking a variable exhaust lengths. I’d favour rotary reed valve as you’ve already got it all there bar the reeds!

Now rest Alex's , that low idol sounded like low spark , but also a restriction , Alex you say at 15.30 short pipe for high rpm it's the opposite expansion chamber close to cylinder is for low rpm bottom end power why supercross mx use shorter and motocross use longer primary before expansion chamber for wide open topend power., same with gocart they tune pipe lenght for size of circuit , I've watched your videos from day dot it's the missing link for topend power , on the salt you won't need bottom end power , a powervalve on a rgv (wired full open) yes will give boggy bottom end but once powerband is on it revs out fully , powervalve adds low mid performance and smooves out rev range . I'd say the rotary valve is causing the pulses it's increasing on/off more dramatically shooting the pulses further out of exhaust port so increase the primary (start of exhaust) to your expansion chamber 500mm slowly increasing size last 150mm you'll see difference you may need 600mm primary for salt dyno will answer that. Cheers easy fix

This is not a channel about two-strokes. It's a channel about a crazy norwegian guy that introduces problems and then solves them. With a touch of philosophy added. Which is awesome.

What if you was able to run two exhaust ports and two pipes I wonder if it would dampen the harsh pulses down low yet still have plenty of flow and also the sweet resonance needed to come to life ? Just thinking outside the box. I smiled immediately as she came to life when you was playing with the pipe

I always wondered how he could get away with the exact same exhaust for each revision that alters the pulses. Now we know.

you can do a two exhaust system , one for low RPM and one for high RMP and an electronic controlled valve can switch between the two that can give you the best performance @2STROKESTUFFING
