Yes, I DID leave Luxembourg. Here is why.

Hi all. First of all, apologies for not being too active for the last 6 months to say the least. I did leave Luxembourg and I relocated further west, where the Picos de Europa meet (almost) the Atlantic. But this is a topic for another video..maybe the next one? I hope you found my comments somewhat helpful and not too disappointing. I do love Luxembourg and I often think how wonderful my time there was. But nothing lasts as they say..

I'm one of the weirdos who love Luxembourg but I recognise that im very biased. Everything you stated is still valid, and a feeling shared by a lot of millennials who move here. I have been visiting the country since 1998 and moved in 2017, first to do a masters degree. My partner and I also have family here or in the neighbouring countries, so we never felt isolated. Luxembourg fits my personality and lifestyle. For me, a good weekend is leaving early with the motorcycle to random places in the country, hike around and photograph. I'm also just a few hours away from other scenic routes in the neighbouring countries. For me, it feels like a playground and there is plenty I dont have to worry about, compared to my home country. It's not perfect... but what place is? As long as we get to choae a place that fits us better, that's what matters. Life is too short to just follow money.

An honest personal account of this country. Spent 20+ years working there, started a a skilled engineer and was truly shocked after my first months salary, too over 10 yrs to equal my original pre Lux wages. That said, the social system is really really good, great hospitals and brilliant public transport. Because of its very nature and size, it can become ‘boring’ but then, can’t any country? It’s how you live your life that matters.... Got some amazing memories of Lux but happier now I’ve moved away,

Luxembourg is not for everyone. For many of us it's far from boring... So many Spaniards in the Grand-Duchy because of better pay and conditions. And it's also a clean and safe country.

Thanks so much for posting the truth about Luxembourg! Everything you mentioned was truly right. Salaries are not great for the insane and ridiculous expenses in terms of rent or food prices. Work places are mostly toxic with insane turnovers! Even if the city is trying so hard to make it exciting with some events, it is unfortunately by far the most boring place on earth. There is no lake or mountain and people are not really nice because they think they are rich or the best in everything.

I am so glad you mention the toxic work places..I thought I was the only one who had realised this. I suffered emotional abuse, I was tortured psychologically in those dirty hands of those people in the filthy Lux companies. But people should be informed and know that this toxic behaviour has a name:the dark triad: narcissists, psychopaths and Machiavellians.Disordered and mentally ill people, monsters who climb to positions of power and are drawn to Lux because of money. They destroy people, they lie, they manipulate, they abuse, they enjoy making others suffering, they sabotage good, beautiful and intelligent people in order to prevail.Those monsters exist everywhere in the world but in Luxembourg there are more of them because of the money. We had a vacation in Luxembourg recently and fell in love with the country. Would be coming back more often before we decide on anything yet. Btw if we speak French and German, would it be easy to find a job as a nurse or in the construction? And would it actually pay enough? Also is it also an idea to live in Belgium or France and work there?

Finding a job isn’t difficult - use the recruitment companies. Make sure you are married because otherwise half your salary is confiscated by the tax man - they don’t want singles here.

I lived there for 2 months and I did not like it. I made some good friends but it was very boring and I tried to like it....but I couldnt and it is pretty and I am in the banking sector but I made the the awful the desition to do my own relocation and I entered in a terrible company and they tricked me never again working for a small firm...awful...toxic no convinient.

@@brighteyes6559 it was OK but I missed my family a lot. The living cost is huge issue but not dealbreaking. During the weekend it does get boring AF, whatever people may say, it's boring. If you have an ambition to work in finance sure go for it.

You are right. Luxembourg is not worth it! It’s a bit of a Ponzi scheme unless you own your own company or work for the EU mafia …you make ok money but not great. The bigger issue is the mentality and culture. Luxembourg has loads of potential but it is NOT an easy nor welcoming nor fun nor cheerful nor organized nor safe (loads of road rage and micro aggression), nor easy place to live. Nor are there loads of opportunities….and yes super boring and lacking in many things eg museums events … There is also an unspoken class system …Ohh but don’t criticize because people also don’t like to hear the truth! Expect to be fight tooth and nail for everything. Of all the countries I’ve lived this takes the cake as the worst experience!

Love your comment!! I completely agree that it has a lot of potential but the people are either backwards or completely full of themselves without having seen a place called .. the world! I also loved your comment on "people don't like to hear the truth"! It is so true. Luxembourg is charming but it's the rude and social climber/noveau riche mentality and this belief of being the best that makes it unbearable because there is really not much it can offer. On top of that, work-life balance is supposed to be great but that's not the case. Toxic work environments and high turnovers are a normality there but people keep on saying how grand it is and how rich the country is. I've always wondered where these rich people are because you can certainly spot them in bigger cities or Monaco and Switzerland. The worst part is when people say "if you don't like it, just leave!". The problem is that 1. expats were lured into coming because they were told that it's so great to live and work there, and 2. how can people be in such denial and not face the truth and really make it a great place? I can only recommend people not to do the same mistake and go for a city that offers a real life and people.

As a Luxembourger, I agree with many points, but also disagree. It seems like you worked in the financial sector and only had conversations with the kind of people that work there, which are indeed horrible and only out for money. But there are plenty of people who have seen "the world" as you put it and who are open minded, hating that superficial part of Luxembourg just the same as you do. And sorry, but it's a safe country. That has nothing to do with "not wanting to hear the truth", it's just objectively wrong to say it's not safe. Road rage as a metric of safety? Not more or less than in any other European country.

Unfortunately Luxembourgers are not any different from the people from the finance sector. It's a general mentality of superiority that can be encountered in the city but also in the countryside, and I am not referring to the workers coming from the borders. Luckily, if you go to a work force with Portuguese roots you will know for sure that you will be treated with top quality customer service, from telecom, shops, restaurants, etc. - they will provide efficient and great service and politeness non-stop. Another sad fact is that the Luxembourgers do not mix with foreigners/expats. In terms of safety, it's debatable because you will see drug addicts or homeless people begging in several languages, doing drugs in public spaces or sleeping on your doorstep, at the train station area or in the city centre. They seem fine but you never know if they could just attack you out of the blue. You wouldn't see that in Zurich or Monaco at any time of the day/night. There are also plenty of thefts from smaller items to valuable goods like cars reported in papers quite frequently.

In Luxembourg beggars tend to just sit in their corner. Agree on the mingling of expats and Luxembourgish people. Everything else you said feels very subjective to me and I’m sorry you had such a bad experience

Luxembourg is a boring country, it is also well admitted by locals. In addition, cost of living and housing problems are main reasons to avoid to move to Luxembourg unless you're desperate or you have no options. My 2 cents.

@@ewolz i don't know. i just look up the statistics and apparently in Spain it is even higher (85%) and in Portugal even more (90%). i cannot really believe those numbers but if it is true, then the reason is not something that is inherent to Luxembourg but many countries.

For the past weeks, I'm not sure how there's a surge of Lux videos on my feed. All were encouraging to the point I told my bf that we should try looking for a Lux job. And being the richest country in EU, I'm aware of the hight cost of living. But thanks to your video, I got more insights of actual Lux living. Now it's making me think twice. Yes, we are looking for a better career opportunity. But we're also looking for a great place to live in. I easily get bored, so not enough places and events to go to is a big no. I don't want my bf to blame me for recommending boring and expensive country. Don't want to be part of that divorce rate either. 🥹 So, again, thanks for the heads up! Thanks to algorithm as well 😅
