This is a song that transcends all ages. A happy feel good song. I was in elementary school when it came out. Black and white tv was all we had back then.

The Temptations were always known for their strong 5-part harmony and amazing choreography. Each member was 6' or taller, and all had great voices. David Ruffin, Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, Otis Williams and Eddie Kendricks are the "Classic Lineup". In 1964, they were all in their early-mid 20s when this song was released and became their first #1 hit. (When New Edition first came out, I remember thinking that their choreography was tight like the Tempts.)

That's David Ruffin the most popular temptation he was like the bobby brown of the temptations, he was the most popular lead singer of the group, he got thrown out of a car in the street, he wasn't in the group that long but was controversial a lot, he was one of the best lead singers they had, It was a lot of great lead singers thru the years though, but he stayed into some drug street stuff.

Smokey Robinson allowed The Temptations to come up with the song's background vocals: "hey hey hey", and a series of: "my girl", that echo David Ruffin's lead vocals. Smokey Robinson's inspiration for writing "My Girl" was his wife and The Miracles group member Claudette Rogers Robinson. My Girl also gave Motown Records their first number 1 song on the Hot 100.
