1) Tip from viewer/commenter Jeff Gauvreau: If your mechanism doesn't work smoothly after verifying all of your pieces are tight & well-aligned, *try removing a link or two from the chain.* This will require stretching the whole thing uncomfortably to take up the gap, but I tried it and it helped immensely. Another viewer noted that some of his pieces had a little more post-molding flange or flashing at their bases and needed to be trimmed to stop catching. Two viewers slightly trimmed the tips of their tan axle-pins. 2) For the few seconds of this 27-minute video the 2012 Monster Fighters Haunted House is shown, its uppermost spire tip is missing -- the parts were used in a custom build. 3) There's also what looks like a really bad edit between comparison stills there that showed up in this published video, but is not present in my editing timeline and is completely illogical. 4) Unprinted, blank Junkbot stand-in should get its legs plugged in differently.

I think the green in the keyboard is intentional. pianos often have a felt layer above the keys as sort of a buffer and I think that's what that's supposed to represent.

The detail is nice but inaccurate for an organ. The green or red or even black felt is called Nameboard Felt and it’s a piano part that prevent the keys to hit the fallboard when it is opened. The fallboard is the hinge part that be closed to protect the keys.
@penfold7800
@penfold7800 4 жыл бұрын
@@samuelm.4137 Yeah but don't you get similar felt buffers under the top keyboard of an organ to cut down on key clack on the retaining board for the bottom keyboard? I'm sure I've seen that on an actual organ. Maybe show/cinema organs are different to church organs. Either way, I think it's a nice miniature pipe organ model, and it looks like the keyboard is made up of 6 printed tiles, which is also great!

3:32 Fun Fact: Most keyboards have felt to cushion the keys against the back of the piano and muffle any extra noise they make. They're usually red or green.

5:35 - "This section is not a reference" but can we take a minute to appreciate the use of more classic space elements in the corner there? Those grille-printed white slopes were in a few sets near the end of Classic Space and those red, yellow, black & white control panel tiles were very popular in sets like Blacktron II in the mid to late 90s but the pretty much disappeared for the next 20 years. Feels like a nice little throwback!

Indeed, according to Bricklink that very nice printed tile last appeared in 2004 (a slightly updated version of the print was used for the remote controls in "The Lego Movie" ten years later), while the printed slope was reintroduced last year after having been out of production since 2003. I wonder if the tile was reintroduced for this set especially or if it'll appear in some other set(s) later this year...

The way the "Nostalgia References" in the set display to the minifigs would seem to itself be a deeper reference. It's basically an homage to the Hollywood Hotel aka the Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studio's. Which uses a similar setup. A lot of depth in the lower structure that you can see into and see all the references, but can't actually explore. The Disneyland conversion of it into a Guardian's of the Galaxy uses a similar trick to display MCU references. Lego just used the same framing for displaying The Lego Universe.

Anyone that grew up with Lego in the 90s (whether they had the physical sets or played a bunch of the PC games) is going to have a big nostalgia trip with this (and it's come out at about the perfect time too since many of those people will be around the 25-30 year old range and after a little nostalgia). Add on the cool mechanism, and you have yourself a great set. I kind of wish this set was sold as two to three modular pieces so the interior had more posable space. But there are qa couple really nice things that make me appreciate this set: 1. The creak of th3e elevator really adds some believable atmosphere. 2. The inclusion of a wheelchair reminds me of a "ghost" in Silent Hill: Downpoiur, but I wish the twins were girls so we could also have a Shinng reference. 3. I really love how well-hidden the action features are, and the elevator mechanism outside is something you might see on a reaql-life ride. Hopefully, someone will submit an expansion for this during the next voting season so there's more interior space.

I know you need the camera fixed so it could even be a thing you do in post? Anyway, love the vids thanks a ton!

When u think about it the finicky nature of the function mixed with the power function does provide that eerie vibe with creeking noise that it creates. I CALL THAT ONE A STRONG PRO. if u ask me.

The powered up app for this set has a button with a camera icon that sends the ride up to the window that is at the same level as the camera. The camera faces this window when the building is closed.

I like the way Lego is going with honoring, or at least giving tribute to, older Lego sets like they are doing with this one with the older sets, and like Pirates of Barracuda Bay is doing.

Some organs or pianos have felt at the top of the keys, and although I think red might be more common, I have seen green felt used. So that green peeking through doesn't look so out of place to me

I just put mine together and discovered a simple fix for the elevator car snagging. Take a file or emory board and sand down the tips of the tan pins which hold the wheels to the car. It doesn't have to be much, ten strokes with an emory board worked for me, but doing that gives enough clearance so the pins don't snag on the interior wall irregularities. Mine is nice and smooth now and its much simpler than taking it apart.

Ironically it's the tight tolerances we normally love Lego for that caused the elevator issues on this set; so I guess you could say that I Lepined a fix. :-D (gotoandlego on Flickr)

Honestly, if I owned this set, I'd probably gut out the ride and convert into an "actual" haunted manor.

3:32 so fun fact, most organs and pianos have some type of felt behind the keys and it's essentially a stereotype for it to be green or red. The fact they paid that close attention to a detail that most people would think looks bad without knowing is honestly impressive imo

Hey, Frank! Would you still consider the actual Haunted House a good option? Has some terrible reviews at the Lego Website because of the elevator System (only 82% suggest to buy this set compared to most sets with ratings of 92% or up)... Plus, sounds pretty realistic that Lego will launch another Haunted House in a few years as a recurrent theme (so this will increase the value of the actual one) @Brick Bucks Btw, would you still consider the actual Haunted House a good investment? Has some terrible reviews at the Lego Website (only 82% suggest to buy this set compared to most sets with ratings of 92% or up)... Plus, sounds pretty realistic that Lego will launch another Haunted House in a few years as a recurrent theme (so this will blow out the actual one)

Quite impressive for a Lego set! I wasn't sure if it was a haunted house but now I know it's a ride, it would go great next to the rooler coaster! Thanks for the very thorought "visit" of this haunted house, Jang!

For Pirates of Barracuda Bay, I can imagine that it is what happened to the Black Seas Barracuda and its crew many years later. For this set, I'm a little confused. Did Baron Von Baron retire from his adventures and set this up this ride and became a ride operator?

No, the Green shown between the keys in the organ is perfect! Pianos and organs usually have a piece of cloth in many cases green that stops the keys from hitting hard on the wood frame, excelent choice to have it shown there!

Fantastic review! I was particularly impressed by the camera work with the ride filming. Personally, I don't think that the main function works well with the idea of the set. In my opinion they should have made it in a fun house style attraction, with hidden rooms and a hall of mirrors, etc.. Also, the fact that the fairground draw of the set is so unreliable is absolutely a shame. I love the look of it though. The olive green and the brown windows remind me of the Parisian Restaurant.

Totally agree with your comment, but I might get it since I doubt we could have another "real" (not fairground) haunted house from Lego in the near future... Between this set and the huge T-Rex Rampage which would be your pick?

That green between the keys of the organ. That is actually a thing. Many organs have a green cloth-thing around the keys. I think it is to Prevent the keys tapping against the wood surrounding it otherwise you hear clicking sound. and that green cloth acts like a barrier. Anyway what I am trying to say. It is actually a pretty cool realistic detail

Wow I didn't know that your lego channel worked so well! I've known about you as a KZbinr a decent amount of time ago through your Playmobil channel when I was comparing Playmobil castles/forts. I always thought your video were great because you explained the products very well, and gave even some comments on usability and playability in fun and creative manners. You also have a very kind-sounding voice which was quite soothing. I'm very happy to see that you have so many subscribers and such success on your lego version😊 Keep it up Jang!
