I agree with you! I never saw them, but on record I prefer the Yes of Peter Banks- he had a great sound with that Rickenbacker through the Marshalls. The whole band was just more interesting to me in their original incarnation.

This is the earliest of Yes - the dance band! Who woulda thunk it?! I didn't listen to 'em til the mid 70s, and I did see 'em in concert, '77. They were absolutely triumphant!

Like most Americans, my introduction to Yes was the radio shortened version of Roundabout. I know I had heard Yours is no Disgrace at a friends house, but I didn’t really listen to it when he played it. Fast forward to September, 1972 and I’m attending a concert with 8 other friends in St Paul Minnesota at the armory. Opening act was Gentle Giant, and I was slightly familiar with them, but not impressed enough to buy an album. The second act was the Eagles, I believe on their first big tour. They had two hits prior to this, Take it Easy and Witchy Woman. Through the performances of the first two bands, I sat comfortably in a balcony seat, close enough to see the faces of every band member, but not a great spot to hear the music. As the Firebird suite played, I found myself out of my seat and moving to the front of the stage on the main floor. I had a great spot as the suite ended and Yes was on stage, in the dark. Immediately, they started playing Siberian Khatru in bright lights. It seems like their entire performance was over as soon as it started as I was mesmerized by every single song. I’ve yet to attend a concert as great as that. They performed two encores, and everyone in the armory was cheering and screaming for more. The armory wasn’t a large place, but the audience made it sound like a stadium full of fans celebrating their favorite sports team winning a world championship. It literally was a life changing experience for me and the other 7 guys who traveled to the concert that night. At 66, I’ve experienced true life altering events, heart breaking and others filled with overwhelming joy, and I don’t dare compare the Yes concert to those kinds of life changing events. Needless to say, I became consumed by Yes after that, seeking everything they recorded and attending two more concerts in the following 3 years after.

Saw their 1972 summer tour with eagles as the openers. This was the last one for drummer bill before. Got to the show and the only tickets left were lawn seats we paid two American dollars each for our seats. I seen them either in 1972 or 73, LSD got right up to the very front. It was absolutely the best sounding concert I had I have ever been too. The place where I was seated about 14,000, and there wasn't maybe six or seven hundred people there. I think everybody wanting to listen to hard Rock and Roll didn't get into Yes the progressive type band. It was in the South so what do you expect. Absolutely the best. It was Lynyrd Skynyrd territory actually where the band members of Skynyrd grew up. Don't get me wrong I loved Skynyrd

Not sure why, but I didn't know Banks was the original guitarist, until he died recently. Not as technical, but very emotional guitarist, and underated.

@josie17763 жыл бұрын
@@pressureworks , nothing of punk here. LOL Some prog fans think every prog rock song that is not extremely progressive is punk. Exactly as the metal fans call "pop" every rock song that is not extremely heavy.
