Speaking at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Tuesday, former U.S. President Barack Obama threw his support behind Kamala Harris just hours after she was officially made the party’s presidential nominee.
“This convention has always been pretty good to kids with funny names who believe in a country where anything is possible,” he said, referencing his 2004 debut at the DNC. He would run for the presidency four years later.
He always put a twist on the iconic words from his 2008 victory speech - changing “Yes, we can” to “Yes, she can.”
Talking about the dangers of a second Trump presidency, Obama compared Trump to a “neighbour who keeps running his leaf blower outside your window” and joked about his “weird obsession with crowd sizes.”
Obama also spoke fondly about Harris’ running mate Tim Walz, stating “I love this guy.”
