I really like this approach. It seems like instead of using EQ to add clarity at the end, you give yourself a very rich and present vocal at the start of the chain and then reduce the irritable frequencies and midrange to keep the high frequency presence. Seeing soothe and everything else after the "make the mic sound good" part of your chain re-enforces the effect. Seems like you get a more precise dynamic signal to feed into your compression and de-ess chain as well. I wouldn't have thought to do it inversely like that either. Having that high end info and manipulating the sound into the mix with just a bit of clean-up was great to see. As others have said, the vocals are super present, and I think a lot of that is lent to having this kind of nuanced control over the high-end and sibilant dynamics. Super sick vid.

Been doing this myself for years and years and you actually helped me learn some new stuff. 1. That I’m doing too much and 2. That you can do more with the EQ dips and it will sound really good. Also gonna try the clip on the master. Thanks!!!

Could you please make a video on how vocals are typically recorded, Example, do artists like laroi record with compresson on while tracking? And what compressor settings are used when tracking. That would be really helpfull to learn! Thank you!
@JiiNxMusic2 жыл бұрын
Usually people would use a cl1b compressor during tracking with doing anywhere from like 3-5 db of gain reduction. Usually a fast or medium fast attack and a medium or medium fast release. It may change depending on the artist and how dynamic their performance will be.
@noname-ng6sj2 жыл бұрын
@@JiiNxMusic This is super false info, stop posting. I fucking love the cl1b and you're wrong. Wouldn't ever print it like this. You record with a good preamp and make the vocal hot.
@JiiNxMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@noname-ng6sj the cl1b isn’t a faster reacting compressor compared to say an 1176. So even with the release being fast-medium it’s not going to saturate the signal too much with those settings. And the levels will come in HOT if you don’t adjust the input/output gain correctly. Thank you

Ever since I’ve watch this video bro I tried your mixing method of how u just try to subtract eq the vocals while trying to go for a natural sound it helped me out with my vocals because I would make a mistake and do to much and I like how u explain not doing to much and trying to go for a natural sound (same method young thug engineer and Kendrick does) this video literally help my song out thanks bro

Plugin order would be great. Gain staging stems? Assuming you prolly don't have to since all the stems you get are from high quality artists and producers. Lastly, you mentioned a long time ago you'd go in depth on reverb timing, would still love that. Best mixing vids out here fr. Appreciate you
You've done a video on a firend of yours, Lil Skies and now Chief Keef, can we get one of The Kid Laroi? His background harmonies have always caught my ear and I know you work with him a bit, so would be a cool video on how you achieve a lot of those sounds.
