Despite the obvious technical difficulties, the sound guy should be embarrassed, I think that this footage gives a good feel for what it was like to experience this song in the raw. The album version is far superior and more nuanced for sure. Lots more Yes to react to Chod. ✌️

Remember... qpr was a bootleg record. Mixing sound for a live audience is far, far different than mixing for recording. Chances are whoever snagged the aux sends from the live board chose prefade sends. Easy mistake if the f.o.h. engineer is not a participant in the theft. But that meant they were getting the prefade input levels on tape. The board op would have been riding the faders to mix the main amp output with the ambient stage sound from backline amps and stage monitors to create balance for the live audience.

Hi Chod! Great to see you with a Yes song again. It has been a long time. This a live performance from QPR football ground in 1975. Unfortunately the recording quality is terrible so you don't get a good impression. However, I think it's the only live version available. If you have not heard the studio version Chod please also listen to that, as you miss so much on this live version due to poor sound quality.

Happy 30th Birthday 🎉🎉🎉 My 70th BD was April 9th. You should listen to more of "The WHO " Keith Moon was the drummer from 1964 to 1978 he died in 78. Accidental overdose of a prescription medication. I suggest the song : "Bargin" , "Behind Blue Eyes," and " Pinball Wizard" The WHO has a lot of great music that really doesn't get played. The WHO played at Woodstock, where so many great bands played and several others were finally discovered.

Happy Birthday Chod! Great to see you back on Yes! However the sound quality on studio album is much better. I have seen many KZbin reactions on Yes music. They are all gob smacked. I am sure we grew up with the best music ever made in the early 70's. And Yes has been at the top of my list for 50 years. When asked for the best 5 prog albums ever and 3 or 4 of them are Yes albums that is all that is needed to be said. How do they remember these complex songs? I think in part because they think of these as experiences and journeys rather than just songs. Experiences and journeys also carry emotions and visions. So far more. Keep on exploring Yes maybe follow the timeline experience like we did.

This song reminds me of Return to Forever's "Romantic Warrior" album. Weather Report would be another jazz influence, I'd think. BTW, Yes started out as a cover band, but rather than just playing the covers as originally composed, they'd deconstruct them and rebuild the songs in a Yesified way. Check out the Yes version of Paul Simon's "America", which is a great example of this.

This is the infamously awful mix of the Queens Park Stadium May 1975 Yes gig. It does get a wee bit better though by about a third of the way through the concert. What it does show though, and highlights really well, is that Yes' musicianship and invention was actually ahead of the technology of the time. This is most clearly shown by Patrick Moraz's monophonic synthesizers going out of tune or not staying in tune or just breaking down and not working at all. But this was genuine progressive music/progressive rock and this was towards the end of that genuinely inventive period where the technology hadn't been created to accurately reproduce studio album techniques. Even just a couple years later the technology improved and bands had much more of an easy ride performing live. This is why Yes is one of the very few genuinely progressive bands from that period. What came later, was often good, but not in the same league as those who furrowed the path that others walked along to create their music. Also, I would say the Relayer album versions are the versions you might want to check out instead.

A perfect example of why I dislike live band reactions. The audio has issues. The mix is crappy. At least in the studio you get to hear ALL the instrumentation clearly and the intended feel. If you've never heard the song before you won't know what's missing. I believe it takes away from the connection to the music. Do yourself a favor. Go studio album versions all the time. You get a clearer interpretation. Just saying.
