You had to feel bad for Trevor Horn. He did well on the songs from "Drama", because they were written for him. But, when it came to the back catalog of Yes' tunes, he had big shoes to fill, in the absence of Mr. Anderson. He has a great voice, and his producer's skills are legendary, but to be thrown to the lions(Yes fans), at a live show must have been brutal. To hear 2 hrs.+ of the audience yelling, "Where's Jon !!!?", would not have been my idea of a good time, and Trevor heard that at every show. In the end though, he knew it wasn't going top be a long term relationship, and for the time he was in the band, he did a great job.

Like a laser beam between the eyes, I was hooked. The bass line... relentless, this song picks you up and drops you off at a place you’d never thought you’d be. Been a Yes fan ever since.

the bass line on "Does it Really Happen" is great especially on the false ending, which is reminiscent of Asia, as Geoffrey Downes was in this version of Yes and also in Asia.

Chris is playing a rare bass an Electra MPC bass with built in effects a phase and flanger, He loved this bass, it's similar to the Elelctra MPC X610, but his was white with gold pick guard. I been looking for one, its next on my list enjoy. Chris Squire is the GOAT! of bass players IMHO

In 1979 I was in the fourth grade and I cried when I found out Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman were leaving YES only to be replaced by the Buggles. I set myself up for disappointment expecting some sort of Video Killed the Radio Star vibe. but when the album came out boy was I wrong! Little did I know I was witnessing a touchstone in the the life of prog metal. Lightning in a bottle.

@@totallyradreactions5006 I agree with you on Peter! I was 15 when Drama came out, and I was still learning all the various sub-genres of rock, when I heard Tempus Fugit. I believe this was the first Yes song that I'd heard as a "new song". I knew who Yes was, and probably knew a few of their bigger hits played on AOR (Album-Oriented Rock) stations, but I had yet to delve past what I'd heard on the radio (of Yes' catalog). I don't think I even knew the connection to The Buggles, and barely knew of their hit song, Video Killed the Radio Star (if you listen to it closely, you can definitely hear their influence on some of the music on Drama). But with the added benefit of star guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire (who was there from the beginning!) and capable drummer Alan White, Yes was assured to continue creating incredible music (even if they did decide to quit after the tour for this album). It wasn't long (a little over 2 years) before big changes (and their biggest commercial success) would come, with the 90125 album, and their #1 single, "Owner of a Lonely Heart"! At 9 years old, I was still discovering AM top 40 (bubblegum) and was only starting to grow (mature) enough to explore a lot of the music coming out in 1980, never mind all the music I was discovering that had come out prior. It was when I started junior high (I think they call it "middle school" now?), with the influence of the other kids between the ages of 12-14, that I realized AOR music was far more interesting (and exciting!) than the top 40 stuff!

Agree 100% with your top picks. Tempus Fugit is Latin for time flies. Please listen to The Yes Album, Fragile and then Close to The Edge in that order. One of the best trifectas in the history of rock and arguably in the sub-genre of Prog Rock. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

@@totallyradreactions5006 Very raw, lots of covers of other people’s music, including Simon & Garfunkel’s song America., Stephen Stills, Richie Havens, even a song from the play West Side Story. You can hear the kernels of their brilliance and what was to come in the earlier albums. Hardcore Yes fans will tell you to listen to those albums. If you’re time is limited, if start with The Yes Album. If you are curious about the first two albums have at it. Also, the personnel was in flux too.

@@totallyradreactions5006 Sorry, I realize this video is almost a year and a half old, but I just discovered it, LOL! The first two albums they were still getting their bearings. There's a lot of good stuff, but some mediocre tracks, as well. By the 3rd album ("The Yes Album"), they made some big changes in their personnel, which affected the quality of the music in a big way. Original guitarist Peter Banks was out, and new guitar player Steve Howe made his debut, which dramatically improved the quality of the music they were making. The album began a trend of making entire albums cohesive, no longer uneven like the first two. At least the next three albums were all killer, no filler! Then, they upped the ante again, and replaced original keyboardist Tony Kaye with another star player, Rick Wakeman, in time for their big breakout album, "Fragile"! Finally, original drummer Bill Bruford left during the rehearsals for the follow-up album, "Close to the Edge", so they enlisted Alan White for the tour, and he basically stayed for the rest of his life, until he passed away last year, marking 50 years straight as their drummer. He's the ONLY member that that can be said about, although original bassist Chris Squire came close to that mark. All of the other members spent time away from the band at one point or another. If you don't count the period in the 2000s when Yes was not active for about 4 years, of course.

Even Rick Wakeman said, "At the time, I don't think they should've called it 'Yes', but in hindsight, I was wrong". It's my opinion, if any of the three stars from the original Fragile/Close to the Edge (IMHO, still their finest work), Jon Anderson, Steve Howe and/or Rick Wakeman are involved, and they wish to call it "Yes" (assuming lawyers aren't getting involved, LOL), it's Yes.
