I can't even argue with this. Whenever a lot of time has passed, I feel the need to address it, but when there's always a lot of time passing between videos, then I'm just addressing it in every video. I'm annoying myself with it.

I know it was mostly a side note but holy lord I'm glad someone with a platform said the hair thing! I had to wait 24 years to grow out my hair at all. I had a "flat top" for the first 15 years of my life and didn't go long until recently. LET YOUR SONS GROW THEIR HAIR OUT
@Missmori
@Missmori 7 ай бұрын
my brother didn't get to grow his hair out until he went full rebel against everything my dad tried to make us into. so when his son wanted a mohawk at 4, my brother was like yeah sure lets try it. now his son is 10 and wanted to grow his hair out, and my brother's teaching him how to take proper care of it longer, and looking up nice cuts for longer hair, and just letting him experiment and feel out what he actually wants. and I think thats so important. your kids are learning about who they are. the ideas you put into a person who has long hair is not what your kid is thinking. cause your kid hasn't learned those biases. they're just figuring out what they like. and that goes with everything. clothes, toys, hobbies. its important to let kids learn who they are and about themselves.

Real talk... the way you express your opinions is a lot more constructive than your average internet opinion. The fact that you seem to naturally question the validity of your opinion - and are aware that you may be wrong - says a lot about how you think. If more people could see you be self aware while sharing how you view the world, perhaps it would be a small step in the right direction for this planet we all share!

@joescot-tmi Thats exactly what i wanted to say. Please we need more voice like you in the public discourse. People who are approaching things with an open mind, good faith, logical approach. The world is only getting more polarized and divided, so if anything now more than ever we need people like you to keep doing your work! I got this idea from Vlad Vexler, an amazing KZbinr, if you havent watched, amazing polical commentary, and other things. He talks about how Twitter nowadays is only getring worse, but thats why he feels devotdd to stay there. Bevause its such a massive audience you can influence, and if its gatting worse, all the more reason we need more productive and thoughtful thinkers/commentators.

IMO, and my experience, it’s been good to get an idea of his opinions because they cause me to rethink my prejudices about people from Texas (although I think he’s from Austin, but still).

@@joescott-tmi You invite everyone to share their opinion/react on what you just presented - that is very different from shouting down every opposition. Your impulse to become quieter - not contribute to that is exactly why we need you (the person who doesn't want to be king gets the crown 😜). I don't use other social media apart from KZbin, so I don't know how these platforms react to you - but I really enjoy reading the comment section of both of your channels. The community here seems to reflect your behavior - offering their opinion even if they disagree in a mindful manner. I changed my mind several times because of a comment here (or on the main channel) 💚. For me this is a space in the internet like nerdfighteria. I feel at home here. Don't give up on it please. We have to create the world we want to live in

Yesss. I just understood why I like Joes content so much. If Joe wants to expand on the things, we apreachiate about this channel: Of course the humor, but the sketch-intros are rare as they have to be. This kind of intro can not really be forced on every subject, so they better stay precious rare, and on spot, as they are. But the general mindset of openness, honestly reflecting on the possibility of being ignorant, down to earth in a kind of way, is the thing wich keeps me coming back. Btw., Vlad Vexler and Joe are in very different ways examles of that attitude, there could be a really good converasation about ethics of communication to be had, if Joe is interested and Vlads health allows for it.

The fact that you second guess whether or not you should share your opinions means you're actually thinking about what your opinions actually are. That's what we need more of. I have noticed an uptick in production values on the main channel. Good work to all! It must be hard to grow a channel organically if you have never grown an organization before. Finding the right people and getting a good hierarchy and work flow is very difficult. And while I do appreciate the content on the main channel; I really like this more laid back channel when you just talk to us as well. I think the channels compliment each other very well. I'd like to see you do a Q & A of subs questions and the film critic idea is good as well. But seriously, just sitting down with a us for a chat is fine, too. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family and crew.

Dunno if I'm alone in that 🤷‍♀️ I run a small creative business, and have also experienced the exact situation of becoming the bottleneck because too much is on me. Ok Joe, here’s the deal. As far as I’m concerned whatever content type you put out is informative and entertaining. So quit worrying about making a certain type of video. Do all sorts. You rock, been watching for many years. My wife knows you as “the face guy” and lmfao as soon as I wrote this you talked about it. She doesn’t follow but watches with me sometimes and the first time she watched was when you were dealing with your skin. Legend.

Your opinion is worth something because you don't like the idea of spreading them out there too much. The self-doubt is a very necessary part of the self-improvement loop, because it means you're being at least mildly self-reflective. Take the time you need, we appreciate you and I appreciate your openness in particular. Thank you for this and your general output. You are a valuable and, dare I say, necessary part of our common/collective human experience. ❤

Good on taking care of the pre-C lesions. I did 5-FU a few years ago, and of course, other people see me a lot more than I see myself, so I went to a restaurant one day, and a boy about 3-4 pointed at me as the family walked in and said, "Look, Mom, a monster man!" I hope he wasn't scarred for life from that. It lasts only a few weeks and you feel so much better about having that stuff gone. And go to a dermatologist every year or so. Mine found a melanoma and removed it, now I get the overall inspection twice a year, no recurrence in several years, so things are going well. Good luck!

In terms of what I'd like to see on this channel, the idea about responding to comments or answering questions is my preference. I'm here because I like how you present information. Your writing/speaking style, humor and to a degree opinions too! And I feel like I might be an outlier, but I don't care too much about higher quality videos. Having the props for the wheel signature thing or rope language was okay, but I found the actual information better. I didn't think it added that much that you did a demo with the signature wheel. What I liked about that video was that this was an item I had never known about before and I was fun learning the history around it. Would definitely like more skits though! Even ones not connected to a video. Same here though, my favorite skit was the math/maths one, I found it hilarious. I assume it pretty low budget but prefer it over other more 'fancy ones'. Ryan George is an example, he does some hilarious stuff which is just him with comically bad costumes in front of a green screen

I think this channel would actually be perfect to go into a break down of what it takes to get your “business” / channel and the challenges of what it take to get everything running smoothly and efficiently like the challenges of communication and delegating different tasks to make everything run smoothly. I would say a conversation about what it takes and how hard it is to do everything you do as someone pretty much running your own company is something worth talking about because it’s a problem that is facing a lot of people. Just talking about the challenges you faced going through all of it and tips on how you manage it and what lessons you have learned I think it would be cool. Your thoughts are worth something as long as your honest about it and not pushing things but your channel has always been great about being in the middle of topics and not just pushing your opinions and just good about makings people think about how they should frame the way they see a topic. Keep up the great content 👍👏👌🤘

Joe, everybody who does this sort of thing worries constantly about it ; the content, reactions to the content, and especially the growth of the viewership, down to the littlest detail until you spend your time looking at the world through a microscope, and that is no way to live your life. I look forward to every one of your releases. I watch the same day they're releaed because I look forward to them so much. This is a fantastic show, you present yourself wonderfully, you're funny and personable, very relatable and this is my favorite channel of this type, by far. Don't worry so much. Forget the need for constant growth, that constant worry, the thinking of a plausible excuse when the subscription rate goes flat, or, god forbid, not finding an excuse for it, and rest assured that there are many, many people who feel just like I do about you and this channel. I like to think I'm unique and maybe I am to some extent, but in many ways I'm one of the herd, plodding along doing just what the rest of my herd is doing. I've seen hard evidence of this so I know it's true. So I'm a boring sheeple and I, we, think you're just wonderful! Look, an exclamation point. Now I'm out of them for the rest of the week. I spent my last one on you. Chin up, the other kids like you and you'll make lots of friends. And your Father and I love you very much...Well, you know what I mean. Don't worry so much, appreciate what you do, what you have done and all you have accomplished and all you can look forward to accomplishing. That is all.

I never thought I’d be interested in the behind the scenes stuff yet here I am. We’re here for you because there’s a genuineness & honesty in you that speaks to us. For me, the vulnerability you share is huge. It makes you real and these days that’s extremely rare. Hugs Mr Scott & thank you

As many have pointed out already, you second-guessing your opinions is what more people need to do and why they are valuable. Also, I like the idea of you making videos about film criticism on this channel. That's something different and leans into your film background. So go for it!

As a fan of about three years who binge watched your main channel, it is appearant that the channels steadiness and consistency ( content wise) is what I love most and what makes it feel like home. It's like, no matter what time or what age i am, i can always open this channel and find this home like enjoyable content, presented by a role model i grew up with. Am 18 years old this year and a major part of my development has been because of Joe. Thank you Joe and BTS team❤

I wouldn’t mind hearing more about the videos that you do like if you have to leave out something interesting, you talk about it here. And hearing about movies you never know you might point out something I’ve never seen before and I go watch and enjoy it

You are a very smart content creator. I am a performing musician and music teacher, now 60 years old. The aging process is part of life but we worried too much about this specially facing a camera. So creative ideas are there and here, opinions in a decent way is necesary to have a succesful career, dont feel hurt by critics and follow your instincts based on values. Have a Merry Christmas and thank you for your channel.

I'm glad you're still doing this channel. I thought you would be using this to do a deeper die on the main channel videos, adding info or extra facts that didn't make the main cut. As per opinions - there are lots of them out there, however, qualified opinions are key. If you've researched a subject for a vid, then you are qualified to offer your opinion on it. As a viewer of your videos, I am qualified to offer my opinion.

So, I found you 5 or 6 years ago. I was looking for info about lithium ion batteries, and you had a couple of videos about battery technology. I liked those videos and the algorithm started suggesting more of your videos and I liked all the space content and now, I have watched every video that you have put out and I look forward to seeing your new video every Monday. So, in short, you can put out any content you want, and I will always watch and enjoy it. I also really like the sketch intros.

Hi Joe, your content is very insightful and it helps to spark curiosity every time I encounter a new concept. But it's not only that but the focus and the narrative behind that construct an objective opinion, leaving room for critical thinking. Maybe you can talk about new ways of geomaterial detection & extraction that are being developed on Earth that can be used over other celestial bodies (for example gold or diamond ore in asteroids) ❤❤❤

JOE! The simple fact that you question the value of your contribution before “spouting” makes your opinions’ weight and impact that much more important. Like a glove in a pile of used needles, give some hope of stumbling into safety. Thank you for 10+ years of consistently thoughtful science communication that has a palatable upbeat mood with some dark humor slipped in!

Welcome back! Very wise opinions (!) on the internet - I'm hoping to hell that this is just a 'growing' phase, because it's depressing me horribly. Anyone who expresses an opinion publicly should at least have the facts to hand to support it, and have spent some time to think it through. (I DO realise, of course, that that is an opinion!) As for this channel - please keep it going, even if only occasionally, it's such a relief to get away from the highly scripted/edited stuff that is so common these days - the internet badly needs a bit less 'quality' and a bit more substance (another opinion...). Incidentally, I only realised whilst watching this video, that you are the only one of the KZbinrs I started watching years ago, who I still watch - so you must be doing something right! I don't always like all of your videos (I couldn't finish watching the recent medical accident one, for instance), and sometimes your occasional 'American' assumptions annoy me (although a lot less than most US KZbinrs!), but you have something that has kept me from eventually unsubscribing - as I have with every other channel I started with. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but your humour is a component, and your 'authenticity' - you come across as human, even though we all know just how contrived and artificial most TY channels are (of necessity). One example of this was the channel you briefly did with Tim Dodd and the other guy (who's name I can never remember), I rapidly got tired of the Musk worship (even then) and the often rambling nature of the videos annoyed me, but what kept me watching was your calmer and often humourous interjections, which nicely counteracted the Tesla worship and Tim's unrelenting tech-nerdism. In the more boring sections, I would actually spend my time watching your body language, which at times was a real antidote to the nerdy crap the other two were spouting! Much as it often irritated me, I was sad when that channel came to an end - it could instead have been tweaked into a much better source of news and opinions (other contributors, more structure/control?) Keep doing what you're doing - it works and it makes good videos. Large-scale tweaking is NOT required!

All I can say, Joe, is... Keep the awesome work. I'm not saying to never change or never try new stuff... Just keep being yourself and making the great content you - and your team, of course - make. That's all. 😊 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 And happy holidays!

There is a difference between spewing opinions and saying something that is thought provoking. Over the years you have brought information forward that was thought provoking. When your audience has the opportunity to think instead of being spoon fed someone else’s beliefs, then we have something. (Just my opinion, LOL 😂)

Thank you for the update. It's evident that the processes you have enacted, and are attempting to adjust, are derived from thoughtful reflection and deliberate action. I appreciate the commentary regarding the tide of opinion as well, and the perceived problem you expressed. In terms of your content, it might make sense to balance the possible opinions you would share by contrasting and comparing relevant opinions from other sources. If the focus of a video is about an opinion, it is naturally part of a larger themed discussion, or a debate, with more than one contributor. In a sense, I agree with the sentiment that the prominence of "knee jerk" reactions is overbearing. I think that may be the type of opinion to which you might be referring. It might be fair to categorize these according to such a descriptor with the intention to clarify what you would present. Naturally all types of opinions have relevant social functions, though it seems to me a "higher minded" intention to engage the relevant discussion with the intention to both stimulate others to contribute thoughtfully, and to flesh out the important elements for an audience to consider. Swaying public opinion would not necessarily be required among the highest priorities, in light of calling the audience to just focus on the ideas and to consider from various angles. For me, this means that I would welcome your thoughtfully considered opinions. "Reaction" videos can be entertaining to a degree, but I find them generally annoying. This is largely due to the idea that they are specifically designed for self-promotion. Often, the reaction is as thin as a platform to associate a face with the subject, without offering new observations, or even notable reflections. Those I encounter that I find interesting and valuable are those that really delve into the subject in good faith, with sincere interest and due diligence. Thank you for your your contributions.
